Recently I report the MyMath.h is missing. After receiving the help from the list, I realize I have just got the python 2.0 beta from the sourceforge cvs. the file must have been removed from python. Are there any branch of Zope which is intended to run on Python2? Xron on linux: Dispatcher thread stops after a while

Zope 2.2.2, Xron-0-0-9, Python 1.5.2 I'm running this on i386 Linux. I run a development server, with that server running in debus mode (-D). I also run a production server, which runs detached from any console. When I use Xron for a while on my development server, I get the text currentThread(): no current thread for 2051 or something similar printed out to the console. What I think is happening is that the print statement on line 527 of threading.py fails, because it is running detached from a console. This produces an IOError, and causes the Xron Dispatcher thread to terminate, and thus stops Xron from working until Zope is restarted. Suggested solutions: The obvious solution is to patch threading.py. This is not good for folks who want to use Xron on a hosting provider's server, where they may not be able to patch the python source. Zope could be made to ensure it provides a /dev/null sort of file for sys.stdout, if it is detached from the console. A workaround would be to use the STUPID_LOG_FILE (or whatever it is called now), as, if I remember correctly, it sends sys.stdout to a file. Xron could do something to ensure that sys.stdout goes somewhere before it calls Event.set(). Xron cannot just put a try: except: block around ScheduleChange.set(), because the call to set the Event would still not succeed. -- Steve Alexander Software Engineer Cat-Box limited http://www.cat-box.net

Strange permissions in the (built-in) API reference

I have just thouroughly looked through the API reference which is built in Zope 2.2.2. I found many strange permission statements, e.g.: * all methods of "PropertySheets" can only be used from Python * while "PropertySheet.propertyItems" can be used with permission "Access Contents Information", "PropertySheet.getProperty" can be used from Python only * "ObjectManagerItem.restrictedTraverse" can be used from Python only * some permission are given as "XXX" (e.g. "ObjectManagerItem.this") I wonder, if this is caused by the API reference being shipped with "data.fs.in" (which, in my case, is old, at least 2.2.1). If this would be the case, then it might be better to have such documentation outside in the file system, as "data.fs" tends to taken over from older installations to newer ones. Besides, there are many small problems with structured text. One particular instance is the removal of default arguement values '', caused by the interpretation of "'". Dieter

Newbie SQL Question

HI! I am having a slight newbie problem and for the life of me cannot find any references for how to do it. I have input boxes on a page. I want the information from that box to be input into a database table upon clicking the Submit button. I cannot figure out how to get that information from point 'A' to point 'B'. PLEASE HELP! The "how" of storing data in an RDBMS, accessed with ZSQLMethods is no different with ZPatterns. The real difference is "who" does the storage and retrieval. This is the concept of the "Specialist" object, which "knows" all about the specifics of the data and storage implementation. In any case, get to know ZClasses and PythonMethods, which may not have been ready for prime time, or even released, last time you looked. Those will be useful no matter which direction you choose.
