image objects created on fly are not displayed & solution

hello, any one who use LocalFS (on NT at least) might wonder why images served are not displayed. this is because image object created on fly apparently have self._p_mtime == None (because they are not stored in ZODB I suppose) all methods who use self._p_mtime test that case, except index_html from lib/python/OFS/Image.py, who use: last_mod = int(self._p_mtime) which raise an exception when self._p_mtime is None I include a patch which solve that problem, based on code from bobobase_modification_time **************************** by the way, is it possible to modify the _p_mtime attribute "by hand"? It would be cool for the LocalFS to serve objects with _p_mtime taken from the filesystem. jim? Translator 0.3 and merge with L10NFolder

hi David, i just finished merging your translator (not lastest version, so you'll have to download and fix, i think...) product with my l10nfolder. at now the package is composed of the following parts: the Translator object - can define translated properties by use of the Translate tab and has all the logic to do the acquisition tricks the old l10nfolder did. that is, if a property can't be found, the Translator try to find it first in folders at the same level and named after the two-letter iso codes (en, it, fr, ...) then, as the last resort, it defaults to standard acquisition. the dtml-translate tag - can be used to translate a long list of words: <dtml-translate>one two fish</dtml-translate> will lookup one, two and fish on the translator object named "translator" at the same level. the dtml-localize tag - can be used to access a single property or object anywhere in the acquision path where a Translator object (any name) exists. <dtml-localize foo> will search for translators in the acquisition path and then ask for "foo" on each of them in turn. first match is returned. the new Translator can be downloaded at http://www.zope.org/Members/fog/Translator have fun (and expect a big zexp demo in a couple of days), federico p.s. Jiva: You have to create an instance of ZSQLMethod inside your __init__( ). Zope and java

Hello, I've just discovered Zope, and would like to get more information about it as it seems quite interesting . But I'm not sure I could use it for the web project I'm working on. First, I'd need to stock XML files in an object database like the one provided with Zope. What kind of requesting language may I use ? XQL ? Xpath ? XML-QC ? OQL ? XOQL ? Second question, is there a java API integrated in Zope ? If not, is it possible to interface Zope with others java products as Resine, servlet engines, EJB server...? Thanks in advance Bruno Faure

Zope is greate, all reviews say so. Most of the reviews complain the documentation. I believe all come to known zope have experience the same difficults and all those remains can feel the power of zope. Not only the documentation is matter. Under the greate architecture, zope is inconsistance, non-intutive, and mistiness. To be fast to market is not enough, it must also easy to maintain, endure greate and fast change to make zope success. To make good use of zope, one should paid more attentation on content instead of control. Making separation of control and content as deep as possible. Write re-usable, structural components. I believe the following is very important : 1. re-introduce unified naming convention. encourage developers to change over this 2. move un-necessary codes from the zope kernel to user space: <base> <lang> ... 3. support of unicode 4. make zope content easy to co-operative with current technonlgy especially search engines. zope oodb is greate, but it prevent other apps to access the data, so it is difficult to contruct a local search facility. 5. support cvs style versioning 6. multiple output format 7. new scripting language, encourage separation of content and control, may be more xsl and xpointer style. Converting zope to Jpython have the following benefits: 1. Unicode support 2. draw other java components : for example, several xml tools being develop in Apache.org is very useful. If a complete re-write is not economic, at least DC should consider how to separate the content and control in zope, make the syntax easy to learn and use. Rgs, Kent Sin

Zope is pretty well > segmented, we do need to clean up the application itself a bit. Currently, many things like the automaticaly generated <base> tag, the background color, text size etc were build into the source code. Also, the management interfaces were partically hard-coded in python, while possible, i sggest these can be moved to dtml and allow more flexability. And there are many things can be done, but not make into a product or how to. I origianlly hope to learn from PTK, but it grow too complicate for a newbee to follow.
