It looks like retrieved items have no _v_dm_ set. Catalog acquisition problems?

Hi there, We've been experiencing some odd interactions between the ZCatalog and acquisition. Inside the <dtml-in catalog ..> tags things seem to go screwy. It's picking up the properties in the root folder instead of in the subfolder (the context), where the <dtml-in catalog ..> is used. Why would this happen? Another odd thing that happens is that dtml-let variables appeared wiped empty inside the dtml-in: <dtml-let foo="'bar'"> <dtml-in catalog ..> ... <dtml-var foo> ... </dtml-in> </dtml-let> The <dtml-var foo> will display nothing. 'foo' *does* exist, but it just appears to be empty. Am I missing something, or is this a bug? Regards, Martijn

dtml-in: sort is not locale-aware

Hello! Currently dtml-in does not use locale when sorting the sequence. Before creating a patch I want to discuss a way dtml-in should handle this. The problem is that list.sort() does not sort according to koi8-r cyrillic locale; to make sort locale-aware I need to list.sort(locale.strcoll). But how I could ask dtml-in to use locale.strcoll? Should I add another option to dtml-in? Something like <dtml-in somesequence sort=name use_locale> ? Oleg. If I have 'ignore undefined elements' option set it does not indent <dtml-*> tags properly (of course). If I unset this option, 'normalize' command removes all content of <dtml-*> tags. Mike

PostgreSQL 7.0.x support??

Hi, Got some problems getting my ZPyGreSQL-adapter working. I`ve installed PostgreSQL 7.0.2. Eh ... is there something I should know? Are there any PostgreSQL zope-products out there supporting 7.0.x, other than that based on PoPy, cuz that was one helluva pain to compile and get to work the last time I tried. Thomas

Logging for ZScheduler?

I need some advise for designing a flexible system for logging the activities of scheduled events. One of the motivations for developing ZScheduler was to have a platform independent means for scheduling Zope tasks. The lask of a cron on Windows platforms was a part of the problem. ZScheduler achieves this independence by using Python's threading.Wait method for all time measurement. But ZScheduler also needs to be ISP independent. That is, you should have complete scheduling capabilities for your cohosted Zope applications without having to call up the ISP and ask for system configuration changes. ZScheduler partially achieves this level of independence, by eliminating the need for cron. But, as I installed ZScheduler under my personal account at CodeIt Computing, I realized that an ISP-dependence still exists, and it has nothing to do with cron -- it has to do with the configuration of the Scheduler's logging activity. When you have a Scheduler executing applications tasks on your website behind your back, you definitely want it to keep a log of what it is doing. For ZScheduler, I chose to use the STUPID_LOG_FILE feature of Zope. However, STUPID_LOG_FILE is an environment variable. Zope accounts at CodeIt (and probably at any other Zope ISP) cannot set environmet variables. And if they could, is anyone certain how STUPID_LOG_FILE would behave in their custom cohosting adaptation of Zope? So, I need a more flexible structure for the logging aspect of ZScheduler. While the ZEvent class is subclassable by users, I haven't made the Scheduler class instantiable -- there should be only one instance -- so it's not subclassable either, and therefore you can't override its logging method. Do you see the problem? Having little experience with Python and OO applications, I don't know how others solve this problem. Can you give me any pointers? Perhaps I've identified a typical application of RIPP? -- Thanks -- Loren

Created companion product FrozenLogger to help with STUPID_LOG on Zope ISPs. More than one way to skin that particular cat I'll warrant. here's one cut from a heavily used external method to render a zope dynamic page to a disk file. import Globals ... o = getattr(self,thingtorender) rendered_doc = o(client=o,REQUEST=REQUEST,globals=globals()) ... Incidentally, why bother making a cache inside of zope? There are perfectly good ones already available out there like squid. Wouldn't it be easier to just dump the result from every query you encounter into a disk file. Serve with apache but run a squid cache front end to zope. This would be relatively easy to develop and could probably run very fast. Refresh the static files as often as needed. How often do things change in the data? If slowly, hourly re-rendering of queries as they arrive might work ok. Given that there are tools to do this, it just might be easier with static html than with live zope....
