Zope 2.1.6 contains a minor bug for "and not". Patch coming soon. I think, I can provide soon (Tuesday/Wednesday) a patch that allows for proximity searching. The code is almost ready: rather than remembering the text information, it remembers the object and extracts the text on demand. The code currently fails, if the object no longer exists or is a "Local File System" object (which can not truely be remembered in an IOBTree). Thus, I need to add some exception handling, and test a bit. Dieter

Kevin, I agree with you, the performance will be better and more powerful. The thing missing in zope (dtml) now is that we can not store multiple instance of the same name which is allow with xml: <author>abc</author><author>cde</author>. XPath and Aquisition Incompatible?

hi, I was just looking over the Wiki on Zope XML, and came across the current notes on XPath. I tend to think that XPath( which is a relative discripition of a tree traversal ), and Aquisition( which implies quite a bit based on where it gets executed )- may not be exactly compatible. The future of Zope with XML

It has been a few weeks since we, Fourthought and Digital Creations, have released what has been misleadingly named the beta of XMLDocument. Despite the terminology, that implementation of XMLDocument was intended to be a _prototype_ application using the new DOM Level II compatible ZDOM. Clearly refinement or redefinition of what XML means in Zope is absolutely crucial to it's success. Rest assured that proper analysis is in the works. In the spirit of open source, we are looking for clarification of the XML story in the words of the Zope-XML and Zope-dev communities. [ANN] Zope at Linuxtag 2000 in Stuttgart

Hello everyone, A couple of days back Martijn Faassen and I had the idea to organize a European Zope conference. Maik Roeder reminded me of the upcoming Linuxtag 2000 in Stuttgart. So I contacted the Linuxtag staff and we will have a booth. Martin Schulze, my main contact, will also try to get a Zope Conference setup for us, which would give us 2 rooms for one day fitting 50 people per room, where we can have talks and discussions. The Linuxtag will be from June 29th (Thursday) to July 2nd (Sunday). It will be in the Exhibition Center (Messegelaende) in Stuttgart, Germany. I know we have little time to organize the conference (26 days). We have one day to fill with speeches and discussions, so please let me know if there are people willing to give some talks or want to have "Special Interest Group" discussions, like E-commerce, XML or Portals in Zope. I would also like to know, who would be able to come, so I can give the Linuxtag staff some feedback. Here are some subjects I thought we could have: The ZDP Portal (Maik Roeder, ....), XML in Zope (I know Martijn F. did a lot of work there. ;-), An Introduction to Zope for newbies (Stephan Richter -- me), ZClasses, Python Products for Zope and so on. I also would like to hear some talks and discussions about Python products that Zope uses, such as PyGres, PIL, mxDateTime and other modules. I would be very glad, if some Python-only people would show some interest too. :-) The speeches and discussion can be held in German and English (preferred, since we expect people from other countries). So, everyone who is interested in preparing a talk or discussion, please send me an E-Mail and I will compile it to a schedule. The rooms will be open for us between 9:00 am - 8:00 pm on Thursday the 29th. Let's make this a successful event! Hi Kevin, What FourThought/DC are currently doing with Zope will allow for fast transformations to memory-resident structured data( ZDOM or whatever ) to exportable XML documents( which are simply strings of characters ). This introduces( to the Zope world ) cutting edge metaphors in web-application design. All data to be served to a client is some form of XML: including HTML ( a better term: structured data ). The internal structure, or representation( or "deep structure" if you are into Chomsky ), is the data/knowledge as the web site managers see it- and most likely the most accurate and flexible when dealing with the particular information-domain( this is what theyre paid for :) ). Each user has custom needs- and wants to see this information the way they( or the applications working on thier behalf ) are accustomed to. So, architectually speaking, we need a way to easily and quickly construct XML documents from some meta-type( our internal structure ). This is what ZDOM is accomplishing for us. Parsing is a expensive endeavor. It is not practical to parse character streams every time we want to get at our data. So the solution is to represent the data as something more computationally digestible. Again : this is what ZDOM is accomplishing for us. setting proxy roles from a python product add method

In the add method for a python product, I need to set the proxy role of a method I am adding to a folder to 'manager'. What is the correct way to do this? I tried searching the interfaces Wiki under 'proxy' but received no enlightenment. Under 2.1.6, looking at the DTMLMethod source, it looked like I just needed to do <method>._proxy_roles=('Manager',), but when I did that now when I (as manager) try to access the instantiated method I get an authorization error. As superuser I can get to the management screens, and 'Manager' is checked in the proxy screen. But loosing access to the object as a manager was definately an unexpected side effect, so I must have done something wrong. The security tab for the method looks OK, with 'acquire' and 'manager' checked for all listed roles, so there is no obvious reason why I can't access the object as a manager. --RDM

Adding files to a request feature

Hi, I have created a very simple Search and Replace tab and added it to my Zope´s management interface. I would like to contribute this to the Zope distribution if possible. What process do I need to follow for you guys to check it out. I found the collector and I imagine I could add a request for a feature. But is there a way to include new files with that?
