WebDAV/Word readonly problem resolved

The long outstanding problem that WinWord treated a .html file as read-only when it has been opened through WebDAV/webfolder is finally resolved. Joachim Schmitz gave the hint that WinWord depends on the HTTP ETAG header that Zope usually did not send. This behaviour is odd because HTTP 1.1 does not require that a server sends this header. The CVS trunk and Zope-2_4-branch contain a modified version of lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py that solves that problem. ZOPD as a publishing platform

How about some sort of custom simple data store with a Python wrapper on it, so that I could use Zope to let people help build the content sets from wherever they are, and then just move the whole content wad to a handheld? The content's going to be something like simple HTML - like SquishDot articles - with a catalog holding metadata: language, subject, expiry date, source... Sort of like: [ Zope ] -> [ Python wrapper ] -> [ C API ] -> [ Content DB ] in the content management context and: [ Embedded HTTP server ] -> [ C API ] -> [ Content DB ] for accessing it. Hmm... Has anybody done anything like this?

Stack overflow on tru64 with Zope 2.4.3 and Python 2.1.1

Hello, I am having trouble with Zope 2.4.3 and Python 2.1.1 and a stack overflow problem. I have upped the maxthreads and per process (doubled) stack that Michael suggested on a previous message (http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/1999-November/002116.html) but that did not fix the problem. Python was compiled with threads, and the only test that failed was test_format. I saw some stuff on Google about Python 1.5 series and stack overflows with re ... could this problem be related? The exact error message is: Stack overflow: pid 1723, proc python, addr 0x140ed5fe8, pc 0x120062858 Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Transaction environment in threaded zope-product

Hi. I have a zope product, that uses threads, to control programs running outside zope and doing some async stuff. What I found is, that i can't do changes from the self-started thread (ChrisW: that's the problem... ;) ). Hi all - This is mainly for the zope-dev'ers who have been following the "Web Services for Zope" project. Though the project is officially on hold wrt Zope Corp. resources, I've been able to get some nights & weekends time in on the Python level aspects lately. For those interested, I've put the Python package in the Zope public CVS: http://cvs.zope.org/Packages/WebService/ Some notes about what is there now: - The package may end up being renamed, as I wasn't aware until recently that ActiveState has a WebService module that wraps soapy. I need to contact someone (Gisle, I think) at AS and figure out what to do about that. - The focus at this point is on validating the architecture and interfaces, rather than finishing all of the details. For example, we're not really ready for any major interop testing because only simple type support is implemented. - I have spent a _lot_ of time on trying to provide good documentation for this - even if you don't have time to play with the code you can still provide meaningful feedback based on the docs! (See the html or pdf in the /doc directory in CVS). - Most of the major things that still need to be done are in the todo.txt in CVS. I'm really interested in getting some early feedback from folks on zope-dev who care about web services - partly as a way to gauge whether there's enough there yet to warrant soliciting input from a wider audience (ws-dev or other Python web services-oriented groups). Hi. My main project right now is actually to build a VHM replacement for myself to solve some needs I had. I was basing it off of imeme's enhancements of the original VHM, and will release it quietly when I have a beta. This might very well be a new entry in my list of vaporware. However, I thought you might at least be interested in my goals for the VHM, to see if you thought they were of interest to you in your planning: * I need the ability to store arbitrary properties for each virtual host. In particular, the correlary of my current work is to provide a CMFVirtualHost tool that stores a sub-portal title, sub-portal skin information, and other items. * I need the ability to have multiple domains point to the same folder, while ideally maintaining the arbitrary properties * while I'm at it, some regex capability seemed like a reasonable addition. I hope to come up with a clean UI way of doing regex substitutions (\1 etc.) as well: anythingNotWww.myhost.com tries to go to /myCMF/members/anythingNotWww, for instance. * also while I'm at it, it seems that making the management of the virtual hosts a little more zope-like would be nice. Here's where my inexperience may be become particularly obvious, but... I'm making this a VirtualHostFolder, similar to a acl_users folder except ordered (so you can tweak the order that the hosts are checked for a match). The VirtualHost objects it contains are not to be actual products but objects the way that Users.py defines users. The VirtualHostFolder is not an actual ObjectManager but just emulates one a bit a la an acl_users folder. We'll see if I'm barking up the wrong tree as I try to build it this weekend. Anyway, this project has to get done very soon for me--either to complete a beta or decide it can't be done. I very much like your idea to put it in the control panel but I have no idea how to do that, and it's not a current need of mine. I was just going to make the management constructors regurgitate some exceptions if it wasn't placed in the root folder or if another one was already there. The control panel placement would be nice though, as far as I'm concerned, as long as my arbitrary properties could still be accessed. Well, there's some thoughts. Like I implied, it's probably best to ignore my vaporware announcement; if I come up with anything not embarrassing I'll post it somewhere or other soon. imeme is cool btw. Client Side caching problems

Yo, We have problems with some browsers being to eager to cache images, and therefore not displaying the right image when the image has changed at server side. This is especially so with Netscape 4.7X. Setting the browser's cache preferences to 'compare every time' doesn't help much. This problem is especially annoying after an image upload: the user changes the file with an upload but the image displayed by the browser remains the same.... and thus the user gets confused. Anyone any ideas ? TIA, Sloot.
