xmlrpc and PyXML, FYI

Had some trouble getting strings to unpack because the xml-rpc client I'm using from IE 5 wraps strings in CDATA. Anyway, I installed PyXML 0.7 and changed Zope's xmlrpclib to use from _xmlplus.parsers import sgmlop and that solved the CDATA problem, plus it's faster. This is with Zope 2.5B3 Should Zope include PyXML components? A couple of weeks ago, I asked about customizing the default Zope "type" when a file is uploaded with either WebDAV or FTP. For example, I want ".html" files to be a ZopePageTemplate instead of a DTML Document, which is the default. I'm creating a Zope Product that will introduce a new Zope "type" called "MIME Remapper". This "MIME Remapper" will be a ZClass that has a single property sheet, which allows you to associate particular MIME types with particular Zope "types" using a nifty text field and dropdown. The problem is, I don't understand why Ron's suggestion actually works. I assume that the method PUT_factory() is over-riding the built-in default, and when it returns None (for an unknown MIME type), Zope --for some magical reason-- falls back to its built-in PUT_factory() to figure out the MIME type. Is that right? Now, does that mean that the only way to override PUT_factory() is via an external method? If so, why is that? If not, can I create a new ZClass that has a method called PUT_factory()? Will a new instance of my ZClass mean that PUT_factory() is overridden for the folder the instance is in? If so, then why is Zope finding the PUT_factory() of my new "MIME Remapper" type when it actually wants the PUT_factory() for the folder that I'm in? Do I need to redefine the PUT_factory() of the instance's folder? How do I do that? Obviously, I'm confused. I feel like this particular problem will give me good insight into how Zope works, so I'd love an explanation of why Ron's PUT_factory() works. List & Dictionary properties; General property handling thoughts

This may seem like a redundant question, but this is the third time I've come across the desire to be able to store values persistantly as lists or dictionaries. I've read all the suggestions in the archives pointing out alternatives (<dtml-return expr="{'id': 'item'}">, TinyTable, string.split('value1|value2|..', '|'), "lines" property, SQL DB, etc.) but I still don't quite get the "Zen" of why this wouldn't make sense in practice. People have mentioned that it seems redundant with existing structures like tokens or lines, but these don't seem to have all the familiar benefits of lists and dicts, like instantly accessible mutability and _methods_, plus no added overhead. I know you can manipulate data within lists & dicts in a Python script, but it's just not why I require. Following this thought, I wonder if it wouldn't be handy to be able to cut, copy, & paste properties between valid objects, and provide a way to convert existing property values to different types? Also, the ability to import/export propertysheets of OFS objects could be useful as well (like in ZClasses). The facilities to do these things already exist, so would it be agreed by others in the community to promote these changes? Is it too late to try and work this into Zope3? ZPublisher Q about obj having both __bobo_traverse__ and index_html

I'm using ZPublisher + PCGI w/o the full Zope environment. Is it possible to have an object that defines a __bobo_traverse__ method and also has an index_html method? In the example below, I would want it to traverse if the URL path had more elements on it, and otherwise to call index_html(). Unless I comment out the __bobo_traverse__, the index_html method doesn't work. I also tried returning None in traversal if key was None, but that didn't work either. KeyError with __eq__

I'm trying to publish an object without using content_publish_form (so directly invoking content_status_modify) and I'm getting Error Type: KeyError Error Value: __eq__ The only place I find __eq__ in the zope installation is in UserList.py, where it appears to be some kind of redefinition of '=='. UserList.py does not appear in the stack trace, so I'm confused as to what may be happening here. Anyone else run into this? Thanks, Josh ps ~ I'm not sure I understand Zope stack traces very well - I can't find any of my objects in the listing. I would expect to see my object (which invoked the method that started the action) somewhere in the trace.

Hi! I have two Zope 2.5 b2 installations on two seemingly identical machines, both with PostgreSQL, ZPsyCopDA, and DBObjects. In the DBObjects demo, I am getting THIS (see below) on one of the machines (the one with the slightly older installation). Very strange for me. What the hell is "restricted mode"? Something new in the RestrictedPython environment? And what could explain the fact that it happens on one machine, but not on the other?
