Resize a image stored in a Oracle's BLOB Field

Hello, Thanks, I have displayed the images which them was stored in a Oracle's BLOB field, with: <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.setHeader('content-type','image/jpeg')"> <dtml-in SQLMethod_with_a_Only_Row> <dtml-var expr="BLOB_FIELD.read()"> </dtml-in> However, I would like to resize this image. I can not do it with the "height" and "width" attributes, because the image is obtained from a Oracle's BLOB field, and no from image object (i.e.: I can not use <dtml-var "ImageObject.tag(border='5', align='left')">). How can I do it ? Thanks again !

ZCatalog phrase indexing revisited

Hi all, I'm asking this again ,in case anything has changed since the last time. I'm trying to search for a phrase in ZCatalog, but, it doesn't seem to work. Let's say I want to search for "foo bar", if i ask ZCatalog to find it, it treats it as if I wrote "foo OR bar" . Last time I asked this, SteveA kindly replied: You should use quotes to group the phrase. ['"foo bar"'] Take a look in the source code: lib/python/SearchIndex/UnTextIndex.py Follow the flow of code through from line 550: def query( ... however, this doesn't seem to work. You can try it even on the zope.org website using their search interface. Using the above suggested syntax (incl. the brackets) returns an error message. Can anyone help me ? Thx. oren.

ZPatterns, DataSkins, forms and error checking/handling

Hi, I'm trying to work out the best way to check for and report errors when DataSkin objects are created/edited, but I'm having a lot of problems. For form validation, Zope's build-in constraints are pretty useless... things like ValueHandler are a little better, but IMO not good enough. When a user types incorrect data in a form, I don't want to display a page with a list of errors and say "click Back to fix your errors". I want to return the form, with a list of errors and the bad fields highlighted. So I need to perform field checks in the form action method and in case of errors call the original form, giving it an error list. I know that to ensure that object data is always valid I should validate the object in a SkinScript, using WHEN OBJECT ADDED,CHANGED call self.validate(), and raise an exception in validate in case of a problem. But this can't deal with returning the original form. It can only display error pages, and to display nicely formatted error pages it has to return a DTML Method so I can use dtml-raise, rather than directly do raise in validate. So I'm looking at a validate method for use at commit time, a show_errors DTML Method, and a validate_form to call from the form action method... The validate_form method is defined in the DataSkin class. But it is also used when a new object is created from a form, so it needs to be called from a Specialist before the object is created, so I need to import it in the Specialist. But this method might use other methods of the DataSkin class, so I need to import those too... So, to sum up, I need a method used in commit time, that renders a DTML method to raise an error message, another method to verify form submissions and return the form with error messages, and I need to import that method and all other methods it uses into the Specialist. This seems too much work... Can anyone suggest a simpler approach (one that still retains the ability to return the original form in case of errors)? Bizarre Version Behavior

I'm worried that versioning is not working properly on my Zope 2.3.0 web site. Since my site is due to receive some major publicity, the flakiness of versioning worries me a good deal. I'm hoping some of the more experienced developers can advise me on whether I should continue to use versioning and/or whether I have a corrupt ZODB. What has been your experience with Versions? Is this a reliable feature of Zope? Here's what happened: I recently committed a Version to the ZODB, but Zope showed many of the objects as still having uncommitted changes (the red diamond). Further, Zope showed many items as having changed that I know for a fact I did not edit (mainly Python scripts). Worst of all, the site became inaccessible to users, with Zope responding to page requests with a VersionLockError. Thankfully, Zope seems to have committed the changes after I saved the Version changes a *second* time, but the fact that Zope got so confused about what had changed makes me reluctant to use versioning in the future. -- Ed Goppelt

In 4am's how to on using INSTANCE HOME he says "copy start and stop to the site directory". Whats start and stop? My second Zope instance is wanting to lock the same file on start up... E:\Zope\lib\python\ZODB\lock_file.py line 115 in lock_file -- Andy McKay.

Medusa and HTTP/1.1

I've been yelling at my ISP (BTopenworld) for having a badly configured transparent proxy cache, which caches all content *unless* the source specifies otherwise. It's been really messing up my development, and of course it's a concern for my users too. Hopefully they'll sort it out. Anyway, while I was researching for ammunition, I read all the HTTP/1.1 specs (RFC2068). Interestingly although the RFC strongly recommends making unvalidated objects uncacheable, it stops short of forbidding it. I wondered if it might be a good idea to make the ZServer more HTTP/1.1 compliant, by always adding validators to all objects (at present validators are only added to image / file objects). This is the recommended behaviour for servers. In the case of the ZServer, I guess the correct behaviour would be to have every page object return a Last-modified header, which defaults to the modified date of the newest component of the page. This behaviour could then be modified using cache managers like the Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager. Just wondered what anyone else thought. seb

Hm, it's been pointed out to me that the inefficiency of the get_size method of ParsedXML is compounded with many instances because the standard management interface uses it. It's possible that some stuff isn't getting garbage collected until the transaction is done, and calling get_size on many ParsedXML instances in one transaction is the problem. I'll look into it. I didn't think that anyone would want to see a management screen with 2500 ParsedXML instances - or 2500 instances of anything - at one time. Have you tried using a BTree folder? Another thing to keep in mind is that the ParsedXML *product* is a DOM tree and a management interface around it. The management interface only gives you a convenient UI and a place to store a few bits that the DOM doesn't know about (content type, namespace usage, etc.). It's always more efficient to just use the DOM tree and related utilities (parsing, printing), although it is less convenient - you have to know a little bit more about what you're doing. Do you need each of those 2500 product instances? See the createDOMDocument method to create a DOM document without the management interface. It's easy to wrap a ParsedXML product around an existing DOM tree - see the initFromDOMDocument method. Currently, you have to create the persistent ParsedXML product which wraps the DOM Document node, and install that product in a Zope ObjectManager (or subclass like Folder) somewhere, to avoid a few warts. Someday I'd like to be able to just instantiate a management wrapper when I want a management interface, and then just throw it away, without bothering to add it to a folder. -- Karl Anderson karl(a)digicool.com
