Setting the variable did not help. I downloaded and built Python 2.1.2 yesterday. RELEASED - StandaloneZODB 1.0 release candidate 1

I'm please to announce the first official release of StandaloneZODB, the Python object persistency system also known as the Z Object Database. ZODB is the object-oriented database underlying Zope; the StandaloneZODB project's goal is to provide those same facilities to non-Zope related Python applications. Today we are releasing StandaloneZODB 1.0 release candidate 1. We expect to release the final version on 1-Feb-2002. StandaloneZODB is based on the same code as the ZODB in Zope, albeit on a separate release branch. Its inspiration comes from Andrew Kuchling's StandaloneZODB project on SourceForge. While there are still some differences, the Standalone 1.0 release is the first on the path toward convergence. Subsequent releases should complete the merge of Andrew's and Zope Corporation's packages. The StandaloneZODB release includes the following components: - Core ZODB, including the persistence machinery - Standard storages such as FileStorage - Supporting modules such as ExtensionClass - The persistent BTrees modules - ZEO - Experimental Berkeley storages - Some documentation <wink> See the README file for details on building and installing StandaloneZODB. For details on using ZODB, see Andrew's included user guide. StandaloneZODB 1.0c1 is released under the ZPL 2.0. It should be compatible with all Python versions from Python 2.1 to Python 2.2. Very, very strange problem with 2_4-branch

After upgrading to 2_4-branch, I started having some problems with authentication, or so I thought. I have a standard user folder in the root and an XUF in a top-level folder. How to automatically redirect publishing request to another folder?

Hello: We have a Slideshow product that is similar to OrderedFolder in that it maintains an ordered list of contents. Each subfolder represents a slide. To view a particular slide, you navigate to the subfolder, it automatically calls "index_html," and there's your slide. All of the slides actually acquire their index_html DTMLDocument from high up on the food chain. The index_html in turn calls <dtml-var body> and the body is, of course, different for each slide. This is convenient, b/c each slide shares header/footer/etc. My problem is this. When you type in the URL of the top level folder (that is, the slideshow folder itself) I want Zope to behave as if you typed in the URL of the first slide automagically. The Slideshow product has an easy way to get our mitts on the firstSlide object, so that part is not a problem, but I cannot get it to work. Of course, if I create an index_html() method directly in my Slideshow.py, that screws up my acquisition. Zope dies with an infinite recursion. Next try: using __bobo_traverse__() That is a little bit nasty, b/c you have to figure out whether you are the "end destination" or if Zope is just "passin' thru." Conceptually I know what I want to do: call index_html on firstSlide() in the _context_ of firstSlide(). However, my Zope Zen is failing me. Has anyone done something like this? Establishing root objects in ZODB under Zope

I have some data that will not naturally live as an item in a folder. If I'm using Zope, how do I establish a root for it? The ZODB docs talk about how to handle a free-standing database, but I don't see info about how to use the one that Zope has already set up. I recall there's some way to get a handle to the open database, but I don't recall exactly what. Can anybody help me out? If I use a class variable, will that be persisted automatically, e.g. class MyManager(Persistence.Persistent): MyClassVariable = SomePersistentClass() ..... ? (Actually, I'm not sure if it matters whether MyManager is a subclass of Persistent). Or, if it is not automatically persistent, is there anything I can do to make it persistent so that it will obey the transaction boundaries coming from web requests? Final question, which is distinct from the root objects issue: if I use Zope's Persistent List, will that avoid the problem of faulting in the whole list if I don't need it? I am looking for a good way to keep a record of transactions. ZODB's raw transaction recording is probably not quite right since it has the wrong granularity, it mixes a lot of unrelated transactions (it's only some I want), and I think it can get zapped if I do various database compactions and cleanups. The point in a customised login method is precisely to do just that: validate user credentials with some custom scheme. If interested, this is trivial to do with a valid UserFolder instance around: 'if my_custon_loginForm_password == Users_folder.getUser(my_custon_loginForm_loginName)._getPassword(): and here SWITCH to the authenticated new user identity'.And Voila! No sweat.
