All, Some time ago a Zope developer (a Zope Corp employee) contacted me with regards to my pyKnowNow microserver that allowed Python to be a fully fledged part of a KnowNow (http://developer.knownow.com) network. Since I can't remember who that was, typical, I'm posting this in the hope that it jogs a few memories. It may also be of interest to others :). The point of this mail is that a newish project on SourceForge, http://mod-pubsub.sf.net, is now available via cvs. This is basically a repackaging as opensource of an earlier, but it seems quite complete, version of KnowNow. The best part is that as well as the Apache Perl cgi based server there is also a complete alpha quality version of a server written in Python based on asyncore. This seems like a good opportunity to start looking at Zope and pubsub again. The mod_pubsub stuff also has a Javascript microserver. This has huge possibilities for interactive web apps, presence, instant messaging, chat, et al. I apologise if this is too far off topic but thought that people may be interested :). Non Bloating Page Counter

Hello, We've had requests from several of our users for the ability to have a drop in page counter within zope. However creating a page counter python script which increments some value in zope will bloat the ZODB. Solutions exist where values are stored on the file system or in a database. Unfortunately our users don't have file system access and it is unacceptable to expect them to request a database account and setup database connections and methods just to create a page counter. I would like to create a Page Counter product that doesn't bloat. If a product is created that doesn't subclass History or UndoSupport does it still bloat? Zope is transactional, but products like ZLDAPConnection have the ability to be "non-transactional" what does this mean? Could I use this in my counter? -Brian

manage_roleForm (bug?)

Okay, >From the manage_access screen in the ZMI I can click on a role to view the permissions assigned to that role. It was my assumption that this would show me the same information as if I had looked at the column of checkboxes below the selected Role. This is the case except for the Manager role. After some investigation I found that the manage_roleForm makes several calls which eventually end up calling the Permission.getRoles method. This method checks the object in question for a __roles__ attribute. If this attribute does not exist 'Manager' is returned. This causes several options to be selected on the manage_roleForm for Manager since quite a few products do not have the __roles__ attribute. Such products include Temporary Folders, parts of CMF, and ZWiki. Now, my question is if this is a bug within RoleManager or a bug within the individual products? Zope Book call for assistance

Hi, Time has rolled around for me to ask for assistance with editing the most recent edition of the Zope Book. A "2.6 edition" of the Zope Book exists at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/index_html. It has many new chapters and a most existing chapters have been rewritten and extended. But it's not finished and I'd really like this Zope Book edition to be the "current" edition by the time Zope 2.6.1 comes out. If anyone has the time and inclination to edit and extend one of the following chapters of the 2.6 edition Zope Book, you will be rewarded with a glowing mention in the Preface of the book. If you professionally edit two chapters, you'll be considered a coauthor and your name will go on the header. That'd be nice on a resume, I'd imagine. I would like to announce a Zope 2 Bug Day for Monday Dec. 16, starting at 8:00am US Eastern Standard Time. We will be fixing bugs in preparation for the Zope 2.6.1 release. What is a Bug Day? A Bug Day is a day dedicated to "squashing" bugs lodged in the Zope2 collector at http://collector.zope.org/Zope. Anyone may participate. It is best if you can set aside an entire day for bug-squashing, but any amount of time you can spare is obviously useful. PyCon DC 2003: Call For Papers

Hi All, There's a Python Conference coming up March 26-28 in Washington. I think this will be a really great conference and would love to see a bunch of Zope and Zope 3 presentations. I'll be submitting proposals for Zope 3 tutorials and papers and will be hosting a Zope 3 sprint before and/or after the conference. I expect that a bunch of other ZC folks will be involved too. I'd like to experiment with some new kinds of sessions during the conference that provide venues for discussion of issues or group hacking (sort of like micro sprints, "jumps"? ;). Please consider submitting a presentation (tutorial, paper, ...) proposal. The deadline, Dec 15, is pretty soon. I hope to see you there. Jim P.S. The Infrae Sprintathon is an amazing event. There's a lot of terrific work going on and it's been a great opportunity for people to get to know each other and work together. wrapping unexistent objects

Hi all, I've a little bit tricky problem: How could I wrap a request of an inexistent object and handle request in a transparent way using a defined method? I've searched about __before_publishing_traverse__ and __bobo_traverse__ but them are too few documented (or I didn't understand them). Better explain: I'd like to build a generic product which permit to call undefined function with parameters using dtml as any other python script but this functions aren't define and will be handled by product. Does anyone has some suggestion/Doc about this? TIA, baux
