Hello, We also have the problem with zope crashing with segfault 11..... I've read al earlier posts on this subject, but couldn't notice anything that could arrange a direct solution, or I should have missed something? The only thing I can try is to describe our situation : - We have a production server running zope 2.5.1 beta (binary release, linux), so the crash cannot be from the bugs listed in Matthews Stability Howto. - The crash occurs as well on Windows as on Linux, (both binary releases 2.5 beta 1, as well 2.5.0 as well 2.4.3 on both platforms) - It happens only with "alot" of traffic ("alot" is more then 40 kbytes/sec, 500 users on a intranet, I hope I don't have to scale zope with this little amount of traffic?) - It DOESN't crash with the -t 1 option, so the crash has something to do with threading. However, the performance is very poor with this option, so this is not a good solution. - We use a flash generator c extension module (ming), but with this removed, it still crashes, so it's not a non-standard-zope c extension module that can cause the crash. - We DON't use any DA for relational access, so all earlier suggestions that the mysql/oracle DA modules are causing the crashes should be reconsidered.... - ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY=PYTHON is not taking away the crashes. - We use our own python Products which are accessed when the crash occures, but these products are very clean and totally written in Python, so that should not be any problem I suppose, because Zope doesn't crash in single thread mode. We also use alot of Python Scripts, but these bugs are already fixed? (says the Stability Howto) I don't know where to start, because attaching GDB doesn't make any sense, since you have to start zope single threaded (according to Matts Stability Howto) and then no crashes occur. Is this problem solved if I install python 2.2 for example? Are there any bugfixes in this release from Python 2.1.2 ? I don't know what the status is right now? how to import .zexp containing obsolete products???

Hello I would like to import very old exported zope file (.bbe or .zexp). ( Note: I know how to convert the zodb2 to zodb3...) Unfortunately theses file contains products which are not installed anymore now: old db adaptor,confera... and the import failed. This is not really nice. Is there a way to do the import anyway? not importing the unknown or broken objects?? Or to 'clean' the old .bbe/.zexp from thoses objects? Thanks Gilles

__The short story__: I would like to recommend to all Product developers that for Product initialization, they please the statement: from App.ImageFile import ImageFile instead of: from ImageFile import ImageFile __The long story__: A colleague of mine recently went through much trouble, which eventually boiled down to a name- clash with piddle/PIL. Zope imports the name ImageFile into it's global namespace during startup. A lot of Products take advantage of this during Product initialization, by importing the name using: "form ImageFile import ImageFile" The Zope source, though, states explicitly that "this module will disappear in the future". At the very least, the following Products have trouble (and I suspect many more, as well): TinyTablePlus MetaPublisher LDAPAdapter ZDconfera ZSyncer ZOracleDA NISUserFolder Thanks, Ziniti

Getting the count of hits while searching zcatalog

Hello everybody, can you tell me how to get the count of hits searching a zcatalog. Tracing transactions

I just tested dtml-boundary in the loop below and it fails. Is this feature or bug? range:min bug in ZCatalogs fo Zope 2.3.2

Hi, I have encountered a strange problem with ZCatalogs in Zope 2.3.2. We have objects having DateTime arguments effective_date and expiration_date that gets indexed in different ZCatalogs. (The index is a field index). We then tries to get all published objects that have not yet been archived: now=_.DateTime() Service.searchResults( effective_date =now, effective_date_usage='range:max' , expiration_date =now, expiration_date_usage='range:min' ) Now this works fine, until one day when result searchResults returns an empty result list which is not expected. It seems to be that some days the range:min statement doesn't work correctly. (I tried with different range:* combinations and the only thing I found not working is the range:min statement (some days). If I instead use a different value for now: now2 = _.DateTime(now.Date()) # now.Date() returns somethong like "2002/03/21" which in turn makes the now2 equal to the DateTime value "2002/03/21 00:00:000 GMT+1" (GMT+1 is my local TimeZone) Now using now2 in: Service.searchResults( effective_date =now, effective_date_usage='range:max' , expiration_date =now2, expiration_date_usage='range:min' ) will always result in a list (all though it gets quantized to midnight the resulting list will be somewhat biased). What I don't seem to understand is that DateTime() and DateTime(DateTime().Date) gets so different results. Have anyone seen something like this before? Roles, groups and permissions: Less talk, more action! :-)

Since I'm not good at explaining how I think Zopes groups and roles should work, I have decided to show you instead: The patch is availible at http://www.zope.org/Members/regebro/workgroups/ . Just zip it up in the Products directory and restart. I won't be held responsible for anything even if it definitely is my fault. :-) This is a "proof of concept" implementation. It's availiable as a "monkeypatch" that should work on both 2.4 and 2.5 and maybe even 2.3 and 2.2. The user interface is ugly, and the code is uglier, but who cares. This is a fast hack to show how I think it should work instead of trying to explain it. :-) So, please: Check this out and say what you think. I think this a definite improvement. Another definite improvement should be switching the permissions and local roles pages. The roles should pop up first, and the permissions page could be access from that one. Zope 2.6 project updated

Hi all - I'm glad to see a thriving thread on 2.6 features :) To try to keep things manageable, I've created a project in the fishbowl at: http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Projects/Zope2.6/ ...to start getting the effort organized. In particular, I spent some time today going through the "call for contributors" thread and harvesting the various proposals: http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Projects/Zope2.6/ProposedFeatures I tried to capture who volunteered for what, but please look this over and let me know if I have you volunteered for something that you didn't mean to volunteer for :) You can also fix it yourself if you like (its a wiki). The next step will be to whittle down the proposals, so if anyone wants to add to the list (or volunteer themselves for something on it), now is the time.
