Urgent: zope cvs not accept Chinese any more

I just check out the zope from cvs. Then I receive error when update properties. It seems the property menager now try to re-code into unicode, but thinking the input is just latin-1. Actually, I have just add to the root of my site the property management_page_charset as utf-8 which the manage page correctly default to utf-8 encoding now. But obviously it does not accept chinese. I have also try to add a new property as ustring but also fail. Best practice for Zope-private copy of Python 2.1 on Linux?

With the RH7.3 release today, the default Python2 installation is that much more likely to be Python 2.2 (it's the base package in RH7.3), instead of Python 2.1. Rather than ask the FAQ of why and what parts of Zope can't handle Python 2.2, I'll ask if there is, or suggest if there isn't, a shift due in the installation procedures on Linux to optionally use a private copy of Python 2.1, much like the Windows version of Zope does. That version allows me to use Python 2.2 without any interference. I'd prefer that the file layout matched WinZope as closely as possible. In this case, I'm willing to give up some disk space to have a sandbox that Zope can run in with its configuration uninterrupted. FWIW, I'd like to see an expanded tarball of Zope available that builds the whole thing, including its own Python and the most common c-extensions, in a unified makefile. Maybe that would get the possibility of RPM releases back on track, too. Can anyone suggest a best practice to get Zope 2.5.1 on Linux running with a private Python2.1, keeping the new Python releases separate from the one Zope will use?

ZODBCDB/ZSQL does not accept where clause with Zope 5.1

Hi there, I can not use ZODBCDA with an SQL-statement from a ZSQL object that contains a where clause.When I do I get an error stating that 1 parameter was required but none was provided. I did install ZODBCDA (the newest version from the Zope-site) And I did install Zope 5.1 I am using NT2000 I did recompile sql.pyd but it did not help. Can anyone give me a hint what do? We've been experiencing some extreme lag on our Zope site lately, and have noticed that the bottleneck seems to be the 7 thread limit placed on ZODB. I was wondering if there are any remifications on increasing the pool_size variable in lib/python/ZODB/DB.py ? -Hoyin Au

Sync.Synchronized and ever increasing refcounts on 2.2.4

Hi all, In my Zope site I have classes derived from the mixin Sync.Synchronized, because the objects derived from my classes must be thread-safe. Lately I've being experiencing serious memory leaks, with the result that after a couple of days Zopes memory usage reaches a couple of hundred megabytes in size, and Zope stops responding. In an attempt to track down the problem, I have been using the Zope debug section of the management interface, and I noticed that the refcount of Sync.Synchronized increases by about 200 everytime my site receives a get request. These reference counts never decrease. To help me understand the problem, I wrote a small test harness consisting of two files. The first, test1.py, looks like this: import Sync class foo(Sync.Synchronized): def __init__(self): print 'constuctor' def bar(self): print 'wibble' # Create a singleton object. There should only be one of these. foo_ob=foo() ## end of test1.py The second file, test.py, looks like this: import sys,Sync import test1 count=0 while 1: count=count+1 # call method bar on object foo_ob. test1.foo_ob.bar() print '%d - %d' % (count, sys.getrefcount(Sync.Synchronized)) ## end of test.py This code just imports test1, and makes lots of calls to the bar() method of the single foo_ob. I searched on Google about this, and found this message: http://cvs.zope.org/Zope/lib/python/ts_regex.py?sortby=log which implies that there was a problem with refcounts. So, finally, we come to the question, or rather questions, since there are two: 1. Why does the refcount of Sync.Synchronized keep increasing? 2. Am I chasing a red herring here? That is, does the "Top Refcounts" part of the Zope Debug screen merely show that there is one instance of an object, and N references, and consequently nothing to worry about?. If so, is there a way I can find out how many real instances there are? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Noel.

LDAPUserFolder

Hi Jens, one question about possibilities of LDAPUserFolder: We decide to install only one LDAPUserFolder in the Root-Folder and configure him to do the authentications against LDAP. In the subfolders we want to install 'LDAPUserFolders' which should not be configured again, but use the top-level LDAPUserFolder. In this 'LDAPUserFolders' there would be done the Groups Management on an base of LDAP-Group to Zope-Role mapping. Do you think it is possible to split this feature from LDAPUserFolder (with a little programming) ? Where should I look on programming and what need I take care about ? Regards, Dirk

range:max, date times and pluggableindexes

In Zope 2.3.3 we did this with ZCatalog, on a field index: query['effective_date'] = ['', DateTime.now()] query['effective_date_usage'] = 'range:max' This returns all records where the effective_date is lower than todays date OR the effective_date is an empty string. In Zope 2.5.1, the same code now returns *all* records. It seems like now suddenly comparing dates and an empty string always returns true. Question 1: Is there a way to solve this without having to do two separate queries? Question 2: Is it really true that comparing dates and en empty string returns true, no matter what? If that is the case (which it seems to be) then I think it's a bug, unless somebody as very good arguments. :-) Whaddayousay?
