I am trying to develop a program that generates a top-level folder within zope and then has one of its functions called to give permission to access the folder, as opposed to using the standard Zope permission system. As I understand it the only way to do this is to modify the core zope software. Am I correct or is there another way to do it? I have looked at OFS.ObjectManager and discovered that the functions _getobj, _setobj, and _delobj are called to get, set and delete an object. Presumably, if I raised an exception here, it would cause the operation to not suceed. I have also figured out how to get the ID and Title of the file, but I can't get the absolute path. How do I tell the absolute path of a file from within OFS.ObjectManager? And, is modifying OFS.ObjectManager to call the function in my program the best place to modify the core of zope? PUT_factory and changing ids

Is a PUT_factory allowed to return an object with a different id than the requested one? Currently NullResource.PUT doesn't cope with that. But in CMF an object factory is allowed to change the id from the requested one, so I'm wondering what could happen, and what's best. Conflict reduced BTrees for cataloging

I am working on a CMS on top of ZODB for large amounts of large SGML/XML documents. To speed things up, a colleague started two import processes and we get incredible amounts of "database read conflict error"s from cataloguing (although we already use "QueueCatalog" for most indexes). I think, the data structures used for cataloguing and indexing could have a "def _p_independent(self): return 1". Does anybody objects? If not, I will implement "_p_independent" BTrees and friends. Pydoc and Zope

Hi! I've used Pydoc with Dieter Maurer's patches to browse the Zope sourcecode before. These patches are quite old and probably incompatible with current Zope versions. Is there a HOWTO for using Pydoc with a current Zope? Are there any new adapted versions of Pydoc? Or is there any better way of browsing the source code? install complains about 'invalid' Python files

Hi, I hope this is the proper list for my question, or at least for my suggestion. I have a Python product which contains Python scripts (*.py) and DTML methods (*.dtml) which can get used by the user to create certain standard versions of e.g. generated menus etc.; the ZODB objects can then be customized. The templates are located in a certain subdirectory of my product. This works fine. When I run the Zope install script on a freshly installed Zope, and my Product is already there, it complains that the *.py scripts (aimed for import) would be invalid, because there are return-, but no def statements. Thus, installation fails; I must first remove my product. My question: is it possible to tell the install script not to compile a certain directory subtree, e.g. placing a certain file somewhere? My suggestion: if there is no possiblity yet, it would be great if it would come in a future version. tia, Tobias http://www.apriori.de --

Well, I wanted to avoid this. But since this seams to be the only possibility, I'll use .zpy instead (Zope PYthon script) and tell vim to highlight them as Python. Thanks, Tobias

Navigation Structure

Hi All, I am new to Zope and have Plone running on top of Zope. I wish to change the navigation structure that is currently in the left_slot to be rendered as a footer. Any sugestions? Regards, John

I don't see that configuration gets any easier if you have multiple processes. Even if Zope had N processes, there would still be the same amount of stuff to configure. You'd probably still want a single master config file for the whole thing, and a tool to check the configuration is valid separate from the process that uses the file to configure itself. As I watched everyone working on the ZConfig project, I was impressed with how many issues are involved in getting a decent configuration system. I don't think that break the server into multiple pieces would make it easier to configure, and I don't see what requirements could have been eliminated to make the project take less work. Jeremy

Hi! My name is Manoel from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I'm very early in Zope. I was wanting make my jobs with a good presentation. So I downloaded "Zope Website Documentation Tool". I followed the instructions. Unpacked the file, copy it to the "import" folder, gonne to root folder in Zope and then clicked "import" button. Unceremoniousness Zope said to me : The object "broken" does not support this operation! Why? What this is mean? Did I make something wrong? Maybe I broke the object? Anybody can help me?
