Hi! I tested the External Editor integration with the last version of AT Document from my AT Content Types. Reasons for the current API reference docs implementation?

Howdy, I was thinking of writing a proposal for killing the current API reference (in lib/python/Products/OFSP/help) and replacing it with the actual docstrings of the actual classes. ZODB with twisted web.

I am checking out how to use ZODB with twisted web. I thought that I would have the DB instance globally accesible and call the open method to get a connection on each request. I thought that if I use connection.getTransaction().commit() before sending the response I will commit on the connection for that request. Is this necesarily true when using twisted web because it is single threaded and it seems that ZODB finds the correct transaction by checking the thread. I am a bit confused here and would rather like to avoid having one request commit changes for another request.

ZPT for CSS, anyone?

Has anyone had a go at building a new templating language for CSS files? I can really see the need as the current prefered way of using DTML has the disadvantage that the css is no longer valid once templated. ZPT of course would be the solution if CSS was XML, but alas :( I was thinking that there must be some way of reusing TAL and/or metal to put expressions in CSS comments. My current need for this is being able to put set correct absolute urls for background images in a css file such that I can still use dreamweaver to do visual editing. Speaking of which, absolute urls are a real pain. There must be a better way of being able to edit files on a file system and have the server use absolute urls without having to write expressions for every single reference? Isn't there some equivilent to the html base tag to specify what "/" means? Site Error

Hi Zopers The last few days I was fiddling around with Archetypes again and tried the multiValued slot in order to add multiple entries of a field to an instance. This does not seem to work as expected, though. Do I need a newer version of Archetypes or am I doing things wrong? Even more disturbing, however, I frequently get the following error message and am not sure what it means and whether it is related to Plone 2.0/Archetypes 1.2.5-rc2 or just Zope 2.7. Unexpected result

Hi I try to validate a formulator object with a python script If an error was submitted the python script would acquire again the zope page template that render the formulator with the error messages My problem is than when I try to return the ZPT render Zope process the return and convert <, > and & to the < > and & I try to conver these codes, change the content-type and so on but the problem persists How can I solve these question? TIA

Threads, Locks, Volatility, and Angst

Greetings. I'm looking for a little wisdom -- specifically, about thread locks and Zope. I'm developing a Python-based product. One of the classes needs to hand out unique IDs to clients as they connect for the first time. I generate these by keeping an index integer in the instance that starts at zero, incrementing it by one for every new client, and using the new value for the unique ID. In order to prevent race conditions when two clients connect almost simultaneously, I have another instance variable in my class that holds a threading.lock(). I call acquire() on that lock just before the increment-and-report code, and release() just after. So far so good. That seemed to work just fine yesterday when I coded it. Then I shut down Zope overnight and started it up again today. Now, I cannot create a new instance of the class without getting the Zope error "UnpickleableError: Cannot pickle <type 'thread.lock'> objects". (I'd swear it was working yesterday, though.) I thought "Okay, no problem. I'll just make the lock variable volatile, since I don't really care whether it persists when Zope shuts down." So I renamed the lock to begin with '_v_'. That solves my "UnpickleableError" problem nicely. Unfortunately, it introduces a different problem: the code that calls acquire() on the lock now throws "AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'acquire'". I'm sure I initialize that variable to a threading.Lock() in the object's __init__ method. So now I'm worried that Zope is doing all kinds of pickling-unpickling activity behind the scenes, and anything I have that's volatile can disappear without warning. Are there any thread-wise Zopistas out there who can steer me right? RE: Zopeservice and sitecutomize

Glad it work for you. Recently I've found another issue with zopeservice.py. The zopeservice.InstanceService class use win32process.TerminateProcess() to terminate Zope process, which leave no room for Zope to perform normal exit process (I've found in the source-code that Zope have to do many things before exit). I'm worried if this could put ZODB at risk. I also wonder why they choose to spawn another pythonw.exe process to start Zope rather than run Zope in the zopeservice's python interpreter. By the way, my 5 Zope instances is still working perfectly so far. And so do my Subversion services, which also terminate svn.exe process with TerminateProcess() ( I'm too lazy to do anything fancier :) ) Sake. >At the beginning of the Month there was a 4 post discussion about this >topic.
