I noticed there was a thread last month on an event service for Zope. Did that reach any conclusion? From what I can see the present products are: - http://www.zope.org/Members/lstaffor/Xron - Zope 2.6 only, not being developed - http://zope.org/Members/naumen/NauScheduler - shipped with one of the Zope CMS's works fine with 2.7 - http://dev.legco.biz/products/ZopeScheduler and http://dev.legco.biz/products/timerservice - works fine with 2.7 too - http://cvs.zope.org/Products/Event/ - event service without a time service, not sure of development status - http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope-cmf/2005-January/021747.html - Dieter's project to be based on Python's sched module - http://api.nuxeo.org/CPS3/public/ CPSCore.EventServiceTool.EventServiceTool-class.html - CPS's event service - http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/mailmanager/ mailmanager/MailCheckThread.py?rev=1.15 - our custom scheduler for MailManager - Zope X3's event service It would be great to some consolidation of all of this into the core. I would also strongly favour a timer service along with the event service. I know that the argument has always been that operating systems provide time services but this is not very convenient for cross platform development and on some Windows platforms it's difficult. WinBuilders for Zope 2.8

WinBuilders recently had a number of changes checked in to support later pywin32 versions and numerous fixes. At around the same time WinBuilders was copied into the Zope 2.7 and 2.8 trees - but without these improvements. This is the underlying reason behind the 2.8 binaries for Windows not being correct. I've created a patch that reinstates the lost changes in both the Zope 2.7 and 2.8 trees and attached it to http://www.zope.org/Collectors/Zope/1782 As mentioned in that collector issue: * inst/WinBuilders has been added to Zope 2.8 without the svn:eol-style=native setting. This property must be set on that entire tree before attempting to apply the patch. Apart from that, the patch applies to both 2.7 and 2.8 * The old WinBuilders (at Packages/WinBuilders) should be removed from CVS to avoid future confusion. The Zope 2.8 binary appears to install and start fine, but all I tested was that the ZMI would open. Another change I snuck in was to add 'SolidCompression=yes' to the Inno file - this reduces the final .exe by about 40% Unfortunately I still haven't heard anything re my contributor agreement, so am unable to make these changes myself. I will ask Sidnei very nicely tomorrow, but if anyone else is able to assist, please just go for it :) Mark

Upcoming Zope 2.8 release

Hi, after resolving all outstanding problems with Zope 2.8 under Windows the next releases will be Zope 2.8 b2 (this weekend) and Zope 2.8.0 final (scheduled for 2005/06/11). I will cut a 2.8 release branch for Zope 2.8 b2. This means that the trunk is open for new development (Zope 2.9). Bugs (as always) have to be fixed on the 2.8 branch, SVN trunk and 2.7 branch (CVS). proxydict problems in 2.8b2 with Localizer

I get "TypeError: object does not support item assignment" in lin 46 och class_init.py. The offending code is "d['_implicit__name__'] = 1" and this is because d is a proxydict. This in turn is caused by Localizer having a class as a class attribute: manage_attributesForm = LocalDTMLFile Apparently, Zope thinks that this class attribute needs a name, but there isn't one. This: manage_attributesForm._needs_name__ = 0 gets rid of the error, but I don't exactly like it. Fred fixed a bug in ZConfig since then, and "did the right thing" to get it fixed everywhere. The same hasn't been done for zdaemon yet, and I'm sure Fred won't be doing it. If it *had* been done already, SVN would not have allowed you to check in a change to zdaemon made from Zope, forcing you to make the change in the right place (i.e., in zdaemon) instead.

Checkins made to a zdaemon copy from a client project (like Zope) have no effect on the zdaemon code. So, for example, the zdaemon trunk is still broken, the zdaemon copies in Zope3 and in ZODB are still broken, and the changes you checked in to Zope's copy are likely to get lost the next time someone copies zdaemon into Zope. The right way to fix this in Zope is: 1. Apply the patch to repos/main/zdaemon/trunk/. 2. Make a tag of zdaemon trunk. 3. Delete ("svn rm") Zope's copy of zdaemon and commit. 4. From a Zope checkout, "svn propedit svn:externals lib/python", and add a line naming the zdaemon tag you created in step #2. That would make zdaemon like Zope's other external code (the ZopeX3 stuff, assorted ZODB directories, and ZConfig), and the existence of a zdaemon tag (there isn't one now) would make it easy for other projects (like Zope3 and ZODB) to use the _same_ zdaemon code.

CMFSetup + ZopeTestCase interaction bug

When you use the installProduct command of ZopeTestCase on a product that has a CMFSetup profile you may get the following error: File "/home/zopes/27test/Products/CMFSetup/registry.py", line 567, in registerProfile raise KeyError, 'Duplicate profile ID: %s' % profile_id KeyError: 'Duplicate profile ID: <profile id>' This typically happens on the profile "CMFDefault:default". This also *only* happens if you try to run all tests in Products. The reason seem to be that all or some of the products gets installed by Zope. When you then try to install them again with installProduct, you get the error. My suggested solution is to "merge" ZopeTestCases list of installed products with Zopes list of installed products, as these for the moment are not the same, as far as I can see. This error happens both with Zope2.7 and 2.8. mechanism for license boilerplate?

Dear all, I am wondering what mechanism the Zope team uses to manage the copyright/license boilerplate at the top of every file. Is this handled manually or is it automated?
