And say if the 'id' field value always starts with a 'p' so its values are like 'p0001', 'p0002' etc. So, while searching the catalog I query like this catalog.apply({'object_id': 'p*'}) I get all the objects from the container as desired :) My problem is solved, but out of curiosity I am asking this. If I query like this catalog.apply({'object_id': '*'}) I get the following error ParseError: Query contains only common words: '*' So, How do I query a catalog to return all its objects? I guess I can trust the order of objects returned while querying with _limit option. Because I will be querying for the same keywords n number of times with just the changing _limit values. Am I right? Is there any detailed documentation explaining the query format to be used while querying the catalog other than the documentation in pypi of zope.catalog? pagination in bluebream

Hello all, I am trying to list out items in a container, as the number of objects in the container may be large I am trying to paginate them. Basically I am trying to implement something like 'LIMIT' and 'OFFSET' option available in SQL. I found z3c.batching package that does this. For this to work it needs the full list. IMHO, loading the entire list of objects on to the memory doesn't seem to be a good choice. I tried to use zope.catalog to get the object list. But, it has just the _limit option to control the output size. And again manipulating the _limit value to [offset + limit] and then trimming the results doesn't seem to be a clean approach. More information in case of ZCML conflict errors

Hello, I spend a long time trying to understand why I could not override a component in ZCML and debug the error. First, includeOverrides doesn't include any overriding registration. At least not like you would expect. At best It can be used to include a package in the site.zcml that would conflict with an another, replacing the conflicting actions by his own. After I would love, when there is a conflict error in ZCML to have a bit more of information other than what we currently have: like which file include which file and so up to the conflicting actions. As I pdb through this conflict, I see that all this information is already there, it is just not included in the exception nor displayed to the user. This information can be found in zope.configuration.config line 1517, in the variable includepath and basepath. This just need to be added to the exception. Since I work with Zope and ZCML, having those informations to debug conflict errors would have saved me days of works, at least. My issue was that an another package was already including the package that contained actions I wanted to override, so even if I wanted to include it myself in order to override its actions, it would not be included since it already have been included. Finally, I think a bit of documentation on ZCML conflict errors would help a lot everybody. Kudos to whomever turned the "transaction" package's transaction manager into a context manager and was thoughtful enough to provide the "attempts" method (which returns a separate context manager, wrapping the txn context manager, and retries some number of configurable times). This makes writing code that integrates with a web system that commits or aborts as easy as: import transaction for attempt in transaction.attempts(attempts): with attempt as t: response = handler(request) if t.isDoomed(): t.abort() if commit_veto is not None: veto = commit_veto(request, response) veto and t.abort() return response Very nice. - C
