I've just released NuxUserGroups 0.6. This is the first release and is still alpha-quality code pending further testing, so I'm only announcing it here. This product adds the notion of groups of users. For now, the groups are only used in the local roles, where you can define an additionnal mapping of groups -> roles. This gives the users who belong to these groups additionnal local roles. The product: - defines a new UserFolder, called UserFolderWithGroups, where you can define the groups and what users belong to what groups, - patches BasicUser to add group support methods, - patches the the local roles management pages of the ZMI to define what groups have what local roles, - patches the local role machinery in BasicUser to take into account the groups when computing local roles. TODO - CMF catalog support. CAVEATS This product is not compatible with other products that may patch local roles support in BasicUser, for instance LRBlacklist. Load balancing over FastCGI

Has anyone actually used multiple FastCgiExternalServer directives within apache, each pointing to a separate ZEO client, to load balance? We had this set up and doing round-robin between 2 ZEO clients, but there are _big_ problems with it. For a page with lots of images, we are getting images/objects returned from seemingly random places. Apparently the request coming in from one browser doesn't necessarily go back out to that browser. If someone wants proof of this, we are able to fairly reliably reproduce the problem. I've sent mail to the fastcgi-developers list, but not yet gotten a response. --andy.

[sent to zope-dev] This problem is due to a deep bug in the current implementation of the Types Tool: a created object has no way to know its portal_type during construction (the constructor doesn't have this information, thus nor __init__ nor the hooks like manage_afterAdd can have it). I thought that this bug was already in the Tracker but I don't find it. Anyone knows ? Anyway I'd propose the following: we need, in constructInstance, to somehow pass the portal_type to the object constructor. Unfortunately this has to be backwards-compatible with all the constructors out there that don't know about it. I see two possible ugly solutions to do it: - do "constructor.__portal_type = portal_type" before calling constructor(...), and the constructor does something like: def manage_addFoo(...): try: portal_type = manage_addFoo.__portal_type manage_addFoo.__portal_type = None except: portal_type = None ... - in constructInstance, use introspection (getargspec) to look if the constructor accepts a portal_type=xxx named parameter, and pass it if it does. Zope 2.5. cAccessControl.c tentative patch

FYI, those people who had to set ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY to PYTHON are advised to apply the following Patch for 2.5's cAccessControl.c module and see if it helps. Generating abstracts in ZCatalog

Hi, I'm quite new to all this Zope development but seem to be picking things up quite nicely. However, I am having a problem generating abstracts for my Search Engine. It's something that I used to be able to do quite easily in IIS / ASP but being new to Zope I can't seem to find a way how to do it automatically. Firstly, is this possible within Zope? And if so, how? Thanks in advance, and apologies if there is an obvious answer to this that I've missed (even though I did painstakingly search through the archives!)

Using SQLTEST with Date

Hi, I cant use the SQLTEST tag with date variable in parameter to access an oracle database: When I use <dtml-sqltest date type=string op=eq> I have an Error. What sort of type can I use ?? In the Oracle database date is a date field. Thanks for your help

Unfortunately, the existing python profiling stuff is at too low a level to be useful - this stuff really fills a need. Plus, if it's integrated into Zope, Richard doesn't have to spend work time on maintaining it :) Anthony

segfaults persist in 2.4.4b1

Hi, I previously had a segfaulting Zope 2.4.3 installation, whose segfaults I traded for a leak when I disabled the cycle-gc. I just installed Zope 2.4.4b1 (binary) hoping it'd fix the segfaults so that Zope could go back to not leaking, but they persist. Disabling gc in this new version stops the segfaults, but restarts the leak, just like before. Basically, it feels like the problems are the same for me. I'm now in the process of recompiling python 2.1.2 --without-pymalloc to see if it solves the problem but I suspect it'll only make Zope crash less instead of stop crashing (like it did last time). If anyone has any tip (or an automatic stack dump generator for running zope processes) -- Ideas don't stay in some minds very long because they don't like solitary confinement.

Urgent help required

Hi, Thanks for all the answers for running Zope (Linux) and MS-SQL(WinNT). Now I have a different scenario. In case I use Win2K and MS-SQL-Server 2000, I need to use ZODBCDA. Now my question is that does Zope use connection pooling how do I configure that? If not, then suppose I get 10 database requests, does it put them in queue (opening only one connection) or it executes them parallely opening 10 separate connections? Thanks, Peeyush Garg.
