Refresh in 2.4.0

Hi, I saw in CHANGES.TXT that the refresh functionality is now included in the Zope core. However, as soon as I removed the Refresh product from my INSTANCE_HOME's Products directory, all the Refresh tabs vanished off my products... What's the deal? How do I refresh stuff now? cheers, Chris

Signal 11 restarts

Hi folks. I have a Zope 2.4 CVS checkout from a couple of days ago, which I'm running on a linux system on a Cobalt Raq. I've compiled it against Python 2.1.1 (compiled from source), and compiled a fresh DynPersist.so for it for use with ZPatterns. Every so often, the server restarts after crashing on a signal 11. The log entry looks something like this: 2001-08-15T18:26:03 ERROR(200) zdaemon zdaemon: Wed Aug 15 19:26:03 2001: Aiieee! 8736 exited with error code: 11 I can't reliably reproduce the problem, but it does keep happening. Seeing as it's a signal 11, I'm guessing that something in Python or a Zope C module isn't compiled right. Any pointers as to where to start to debug this? I think someone should submit zope to download.com - it's not a search engine - if you aren't on it, you don't really exist as a piece of software and it's not just for windows software. [DTML] how to check an arbitrary role+permission ?

We ask dtml questions in this group, don't we ? Can't remember. This is hopefully a simple one. I have a zwiki-based website, where some of the pages are public and some are private. On one of the admin pages I want to list all the public pages, ie those pages for which the Anonymous role has View permision. Thanks in advance for any clues.. -Simon

Hello! I have a question about acquisition and namespaces and how to use them in your product code..... Imagine you have the following structure in zope : (ProductA is a Product derived from Folder/Objectmanager so it can hold other objects, ProductB is a simpleitem product) Root | ----ProductA | ----Folder6 | ----Folder7 | ----ProductB | ----DTMLDoc1 OK : If I execute http://localhost/ProductA/Folder6/Folder7/DTMLDoc1 and I put in the DTMLDoc1 this code : '<dtml-var "ProductA">' , it will look back and it will find the ProductA instance and it will call it's index_html, because in DTML you have a namespace where the DTML-execute code can find 'ProductA' on a great way. Now the following thing : I want to acquire a reference TO ProductA IN the product code of ProductB so I will be able to execute functions from ProductA in ProductB, for example : class ProductB(.....) def blah(): refProdA = self.acquire('ProductA'); (self.acquire is not a real function, only for illustration what kind of function I would like to have in a Zope object :) Do I have a same namespace in my Productcode (the python code of this product) so it will acquire automaticily the reference to ProductA, for example the way I use here above? Or do I have to program this manually by repeatly calling the aq_parent method until I find an instance of 'ProductA' ? thnx in advance, martijn jacobs eastsite

I am sorry, but I do not understand your previous request. I comment you it again. I am using Zope 2.4.0 and Python 2.1 in Win32 plataform. Firstly, I have installed ZMySQLDA-1.1.3 as it is showing in http://www.zope.org/Members/philh/mysql . However, the next error is showed: "ImportError: DLL load failed: No se puede hallar uno de los archivos de biblioteca necesarios para ejecutar esta aplicación". It is produced because the MySQL.pyd library was compiled with Python 1.5. I have trying recompile the source with Microsoft Visual C++ 5.0 for obtaining the MySQL.pyd library with python 2.1, but it generates compilation errors as: "MySQLmodule.c(1147) : error C2102: '&' requires l-value in the line: tf = &(mysql_fetch_field_direct(self->res,j));", and link errors as: "c:\python21\libs\python21.lib : fatal error LNK1106: invalid file or disk full: cannot seek to 0x3adc9977. Error executing link.exe." Then, I have trying it with ZMySQLDA-2.0.7 and MySQL-python-0.9.0 (for I obtain MySQLdb). as it is showing in http://zope.org/Members/philh/ZMySQLDA_html . However, when I try to execute "python setup.py build" for obtaining "_mysql.pyd" with Python 2.1, it generates a "Critical Link Error", although I do not understand why?, because I have installed in my computer: MySQL database 3.23.40, Python 2.1 (with Win32 extensions) and Microsoft Visual C++. Could you help me about this problem?, or Could you send me the "_mysql.pyd" library compiled for Python 2.1 or "MySQL.pyd" for Python 2.1 ? Thank you very much.

Roll Your Own vs GUF vs exUserFolder - Why is one better than the other

Hello! I would like to hear from people using GUF and/or exUserFolder and what they think of them, especially why they prefer on over the other, or opinions on why one is better than the other. I've been trying to understand how both products work and AFAICT the main difference is that exUserFolder provides user properties while GUF does not. GUF seems to be better at handling roles thn exUserFolder (in terms of being able to extract them from the database). Any comments insight, corrections of misconceptions are welcome. I need to have a working solution to our problem RSN and I want to use as much of Zope as possible. It won't be possible to solely rely on the zope sec mechanisms but if i can delegate to zope as much as possible it would be a big gain. The last and least desireable option would be to simply ignore the zope sec mechanisms and roll our own sec management.
