MySQL-python-0.3.5 with ZMySQLDAMike

Hello! There are two copies of the _mysql.pyd file on my disk: the one I built yesterday is here C:\Python20\win32comext\MySQL-python-0.3.5\build\lib.win32-2.0 and there's another one here that I didn't know about here: C:\Python20 I'm not sure where that one came from... Anyway, I took the _mysql.pyd from C:\Python20\win32comext\MySQL-python-0.3.5\build\lib.win32-2.0 and tried putting it in <zopedir>bin/lib But then when I tried to startup zope, it died. No error messages. It just tried to start and then died (on win, this is a console window that opens and closes itself) I then tried putting it in C:\zopes\chikoon\lib\python\Products\ZMySQLDA but had the same results. Sorry to continue with the saga, but at least there's no copy in html this time! .zexp format deprecated?

Hi all, Someone just mentioned on the #zope IRC channel that they saw a comment to the effect that the 'zexp format was 'deprecated'. Can anyone confirm this? what release will no longer support the format? Michael Bernstein.

BTree upgrading

Hi, I see the new catalog stuff makes use of new BTrees. I presume the big advantages the new catalog has are from these new BTrees. I know of a few products which also use these BTrees (Squishdot and some internal ones here spring to mind) so I guess they should be upgraded too? Well, I had a look at the _convertBTrees method in Catalog.py and it all made sense, so I'm guessing the folowing would be the correct way to convert some BTrees? from BTrees import IOBTree, BTree, convert myBTree if type(myBTree is not IOBTree): mynewBTree = IOBTree() convert(myBTree,mynewBTree, 200) ...or.. if type(myBTree is not BTree): mynewBTree = BTree() convert(myBTree,mynewBTree, 200) I'm guessing the 200 is how many items get put in each bucket? Hi! I just tried a build of the MySQL-python-0.3.5 module and I get a file not found error because I don't have a cl.exe, which is apparently something I need to finish the build. Does anyone know what I'm missing? Form error handling for Rack-stored PD classes in O-O application

Hi, I often have more luck the second time I ask a question... let's see if this rule holds. I'm struggling with checking and reporting errors in forms that create or modify properties of PD classes in a ZPatterns application. Automatic checks using Zope's built-in constraints or something like ValueHandler won't cut it, because they can't cover all the required rules - for example, checking if a Product SKU is being set to an existing SKU, or that a Customer is trying to use an email address already in use (and also because I want to return the form page with the errors indicated, rather than a generic error page). So I need a specific verification method for each class. This method will be used both when an object is edited and when its created. To use the method when creating an object, I either have to place it in the Specialist - which is bad, because the PD class should provide its validation code, or call it at commit time, using a SkinScript WHEN OBJECT CREATED,CHANGED clause. But verification methods called at commit time do their checks on the object properties, not on any submitted form field values. So they can test that a password is reasonably secure, but can't check that passwords typed in two form fields are identical. One thing I can do is define a editInstance method which would verify the values in REQUEST.form and then call manage_changeProperties, or store a list of errors in the REQUEST and raise a 'FormError' exception. But I can't let this exception propagate freely, I have to catch it so I can display an appropriate error page. Also, if a form results in the creation of more than one object, I want to display all the errors that result from the creation of all the objects, but if the first object raises an exception, I can't create the second one (especially if the second one expects to get the id of the first). Or I could forget about exceptions and simply return an error list from editInstance. Then it would be up to the method calling editInstance to raise an exception to roll back the created objects. This is the only workable solution I got at the moment... I can get it to work, but I've chased solutions in the past that seemed good but ended up crashing... so I'd really appreciate any comments on possible flaws or problems I'm not seeing, or any other, better solutions. Bizarre Version Behavior

I'm worried that versioning is not working properly on my Zope 2.3.0 web site. Since my site is due to receive some major publicity, the flakiness of versioning worries me a good deal. I'm hoping some of the more experienced developers can advise me on whether I should continue to use versioning and/or whether I have a corrupt ZODB. What has been your experience with Versions? Is this a reliable feature of Zope? Here's what happened: I recently committed a Version to the ZODB, but Zope showed many of the objects as still having uncommitted changes (the red diamond). Further, Zope showed many items as having changed that I know for a fact I did not edit (mainly Python scripts). Worst of all, the site became inaccessible to users, with Zope responding to page requests with a VersionLockError. Thankfully, Zope seems to have committed the changes after I saved the Version changes a *second* time, but the fact that Zope got so confused about what had changed makes me reluctant to use versioning in the future. -- Ed Goppelt
