Hi! As you maybe know, there are at least _three_ standard encodings for russian cyrillic: koi8-r, which is used in most unices, Windows codepage 1251 and iso8859-5, which is used in some commercial systems (like HPUX). The common workaround for this problem is server-side detection of client OS type. For given OS, web-server decides which encoding is necessary and recodes the document on-fly. Such functionality is implemented as an Apache module which is widely used across russian net. My question is (are you already guessed? good!): (1) is there anybody implemented such thing for Zope? (2) if not, what is the right place to implement such functionality? I mean, what component of Zope should cope whith such things? Session Objects?

Hi, We currently have created a site which stores user information in a relational DB, using GUF hooks to manage the security from the users and roles in the DB. Although there is several user characteristics that we would like to store in a session object cached in server RAM, such as the user's unique system ID, greeting name, etc; rather than having to hit the DB for this information on each request. Basically we would like to use something similar to the session objects in ASP (yuck), or Java JSP/servlet model. I've seen several Zope session products although they all seem to hook directly to a DB and don't seem to provide memory persistence which is what we would like to use. Is there any existing products which do this? thanks in advance, Adam

Hi guys - I _just_ checked in a fix for this. A piece of the namespace machinery was not updated in the required way to play nice with the new infrastructure. I've included the reply I made to the bug report: Thanks for the report - I've tracked this down to a bit of the DTML rendering machinery that didn't get updated to play nice with the new security infrastructure. Any DTML that tried to use subobjects of an object associated with a name via a namespace would fail validation. The manage_tabs happened to do this. I've fixed this for 2.2. In the meantime, if you want to patch your current installation, you can make a one-line change to DocumentTemplate/DT_Util.py. Tranalyzer - the next step

I was wondering if there are any spinoffs of tranalyzer, that can parse all the objects in the database and alter the contents of them. I've asked this question before, but I just have to make sure so I don't reinvent the wheel. ZSQL Methods

Using ZSQLMethods against an ORACLE 8.0.6 Database. I have two tables, each with a NUMBER(6) key field. If I create a method which selects against each of the tables then method returns an integer (e.g. 5040), as expected. select index_number from names where name = 'name' or select index_number from aliases where alias = 'name' If I attempt to get the combined list select index_number from names where name = 'name' union select index_number from aliases where alias = 'name' I get a float back (e.g. 5040.0). Is this expected/correct? If so how do I force it to return the integer. David Cooper dcooper(a)nosc.mil
