exec in zope?

I'm trying to pass a keyword argument to a function (in this case Catalog), but to generate it from variables. The following doesn't work, but it illustrates my idea: <dtml-in "Catalog(_.getitem(search_in) = _.getitem(search_for))"> The obvious way to do this in python would be to use the 'exec' command - but that doesn't seem to work in zope. Strange, Random Error

Can anyone shed any light on the following? It's got me stumped... It has only happened from 1 request so far, although it triggered off the same error for all the images on the page... ?!? ZODB3 - updated stored objects

Hi, I read somewhere on www.zope.org that each time you update an object stored in ZODB3 a new record will be appended. Does this mean the entire object will be stored in a new location with the updated values? If so, isn`t that kinda dumb, at least if there`s no way to override this "feature"? Anyhow, I want to store several big custom objects in ZODB. These objects can be frequently updated, and I`d like to update the previously stored object, not store the entire thing again. Can anybody clarify or give me hints on how to do this? Thomas

ZCatalog and Huge Customized Objects in ZODB

Is it possible to store lots of huge objects, like 2-3 MB in size each, in ZODB and catalog them for easy searching? Can I catalog special properties of custom objects and skip others? Are there any limitations to ZCatalog and the amount of stuff to index, before the speed is affected? If somebody has pointers on how to store custom python-objects in ZODB and make them ZCatalog-aware or somehow work with the ZCatalog, I`d be most grateful. Thanks. Thomas

Anyhow, I This is true with the default Zope "storage" FileStorage. It's not "dumb", because it's the feature that makes undo and versioning work. Other storages like dbmStorage and Ty Sarna's BerkeleyStorage don't work like this, and they might be more suitable for you. Of course those storages don't do undo or versioning. DateTime objects's and ZCatalog

Shane, Actually, one big thing I did notice is that when I run the DTML that calls the ZCatalog search for the external method that is stored in a Field index called 'calendar_day', I get an instance of DateTime.DateTime.DateTime for ALL of the instances that use that external method. Shouldn't they already be in the index? "Memory, all alone in the cache..."

Shane, Well there is less blood on the floor today. It's not claiming memory as fast, but I've still had 400MB go in 3 hours. It's a slow steady decline. And the cache is slowly inclining.
