My company is developing a Zope portal website that will also be our company's Intranet. As our deadline approaches (very short now), we are in need of assistance. We need several Products/applications using Zope, Python, MySQL, Apache, Debian box. All of these products are needed ASAP. We are willing to discuss open-sourcing all products. If anyone out there has some extra time during the next 2-4 weeks and would be interested in earning some extra $$, please contact me via private e-mail at liz(a)virtualplancenter.com. Perhaps someone is already working on an open-source product, but a few $$ would help push it along?? Our site will include many features/requirements, a few are listed: free, public email wizards; free, public web hosting wizards; interactive discussions; database querying/updating/inserting; virtual hosting; admin interfaces; various security levels; e-commerce; database results e-mailed daily; and much more. Some of the products already exist on the zope.org site, but need some tweaking/installation into our server. Any replies are greatly appreciated. Liz Pelletier Notice also posted to zope(a)zope.org

I'm French and a translator, so maybe I could give you a hand when translating or proofreading. I gave it some thought already because I'm trying to convince a French organization to use Zope. If they agree, they'd be better off with a localized version. I wonder how to go about it: for instance, one could use a script to extract localizable strings for the source files (with suitable context information such as file name and possibly def name) and create a glossary. After translation the glossary would be applied back on the sources with another script. This would make it easy to - translate to other languages; - translate new Zope versions; - create a glossary to ensure consistency eg. when translating products. That's how I usually translate resource files for Windows apps (eg. .dlg files). Or do you plan to modify the US sources to store messages outside of code, in special files (eg. stringtables in Windows apps)? Feel free to get in touch if you want to discuss it. Cheers. Alexandre

Very grate project! I am very interested in both XML and Zope. I am doing some bibliographic data processing with xml. I want to use zop if it is possible. What I am wanting now is : 1. The ability to handle utf-8 charset in Zope including full set of chars with chinese han, and other characters. 2. The ability to extract from a xml doc some sub-tree which meet a specific specification and sent it as a new xmldocument. I perfer to let the browser to do the xsl transformation because it can be more flexible and dynamic. 3. To create xml document with many sister tags which have the same tag name. I got a lot of such things because there are always many isbn for a book, many authors for a book, etc. I need to use the same tag to represent them. Rgs, Kent Sin

Can not search the chinese word in ZCtalog using TextIndex

Feedback wanted on GenericUserFolder

I've put together a functional GenericUserFolder for people to look at and give me feedback before a full release: http://www.zope.org/Members/Zen/GenericUserFolder It is simply a userfolder that calls ZODB methods to populate userlists, return roles etc. Out of the box it makes UserDB obsolete, and would allow etcUserFolder, LDAPAdaptor etc. to be cut back to external methods (giving more flexibility and allowing features like enhanced cookie handling to be done in one product that in every product). I don't know if the cookie authentication is working - I need to rewrite this as the implementation I stole from etcUserFolder (with the rest of the framework) seems to store the password in plaintext in the cookie. I'll end up passing a SHA hash of some description I think. The results from the methods are being cached in _v_ volatile attributes. I think this is the correct thing to do, but this means there is a seperate cache per thread (increased memory usage) as well as allowing the possibility of inconsistancys between threads as the seperate caches will expire at different times. Unless I steal someones existing Session product, I'll end up having to store the cookies in a dictionary on the server (as the clients won't be passing a password in a form I can send to authenticate) - I don't think this will cause a problem for any but the largest sites. Any hints on what will happen to this product with the eventual release of the portal toolkit? Will it become obsolete, or will it require reimplemntation from the ground up to fit in with the new framework? I was about to hack UserDb to make it store the user auth details in an SQLSession. The nice thing about this is that it's really really easy to make sure the login times out properly. (Also, when they re-login, if you've kept the expired session around, you can drop them back where they were). Lax 'manage_access' practice?

I was tweaking with adding some of the functionality of 'manage_access' to a custom form/method, and discovered what seems to be a hole in it: the form embeds the edited user's password (in plaintext) as the text of the password/confirm fields (either text or hidden fields). In either case, "View | Page Source" shows the plaintext. "Normally", administrators are not be able to see users' passwords, but can only reset them. Is this a real problem, or is BasicAuthentication so weak that we shouldn't care, anyway? Manage all user folders from one screen?
