Unfortunately, LOB plumbing will most likely not come until a customer pays for it, simply out of the need to rewrite large chunks of the old Aqueduct product that's under SQLMethods. Some thoughts, since I've wondered about similar things myself, mostly to keep the size of the ODB manageable under heavy use. So, what you would need to do is create a "proxy" object in the ODB that has information pertaining to the file. It would know how to get the information out of the RDBMS (or even file system?) and pass it back. It should probably also cache things reasonably. It would also need to support BLOBS probably in the database (I only know DB2 and Oracle for this, and I'd rather not admit to the latter :-). Honestly, it shouldn't be that hard, and I think such "proxy" objects could be useful for any site that has large files as well (for example, I've talked with one customer who needs to provide access to a couple hundred gig of data, not something you'd want in the ZODB honestly.). Zope and Com : CoInitialize done on each thread by Zserver?

I'm working on an ADO DA for Z2. I'll need to do two things to get this to work correctly with Zope 2. 1. Before win32com is imported, set sys.coinit_flags=0 2. In each thread, call CoInitializeEx(COINIT_FREETHREADED) I've seen mentioned earlier on this list that Z2 was already calling CoInitialize, but I can't find it in any .py files. Before the next Z2 Beta comes out, can I get this setup as an "official" thing? If Zope isn't calling CoInitialize yet, I'll provide a patch if someone could point me to the appropriate zserver file... medusa/select_trigger.py doesn't seem like the correct place.. Hello, I started to work with Zope two days ago. After a short introduction I started to work on a website. One line in the sorce-code of a document says: "<cfinclude template="../dddd/dddd.txt">" How can I transform it into zope-code? This dddd.txt is a JavaScript-File to be included in nearly every document of the website (for using a sitemap). Thank you for any help! Greeting from Germany Helge

Creating and pasting to a ZClass within a single transaction does not work

Hi, Last week, there was an exchange going on because I was having trouble copying and pasting in DTML (or Python) from a Folder to a ZClass instance. The thread started with http://www.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/1999-August/001248.html It looks like the problem is that I was creating the ZClass instance and doing the copy/paste operation all at once. If I use one DTML method to create the new objects, and then a second method to do the copy/paste, everything works just fine. Should there be a problem pasting objects to a new object within the same transaction? Kevin

PROPOSAL: html_quote implicit in entity-reference var tag syntax

Zope 2.0 allows you to use an entity-reference syntax for the var tag. For example, you can do: <a href="&dtml-URL1;"> rather than: <a href="<dtml-var URL1>"> Unfortunately, you always need html_quote in a situation like this. I propose that: &dtml-name; should be equivalent to: <dtml-var name html_quote> (Or, of course:  ) Without this change, I think the entity-reference syntax doesn't really solve the problem it was designed to solve. Can anyone think of a case where you need the entity-reference syntax and wouldn't want html_quote? I feel that this change needs to be made now, before Zope 2.0 final, since it is not backward compatible. For example, if someone has a document like: &dtml-standard_html_header; .... &dtml-standard_html_footer; Making html_quote explicit will break their document. Comments? Replying to myself... Oddly enough, I'm actually getting two copies of the images (imagename and copy_of_imagename). If there are two images, then I will end up with 4 image objects in the destination object. Here's the python method that I'm using: def candp(fobj, tobj, REQUEST): "Copy and paste" ids = fobj.objectIds() if not ids: return cdata = fobj.manage_copyObjects(ids) tobj.manage_pasteObjects(cdata, REQUEST) Any idea why I would get *two* copies of everything from this?
