Different searching behavior of acquisition in new version of Zope? Zope?

I have recently brought over some work I was doing under the previous version of Zope (the latest 1.xxx version) to the version of Zope I installed from Zope-2.0.0b1-win32-x86.exe and am noticing a difference in behavior that I can't understand yet. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. The scenario is as follows: Folder_A Folder_B Folder_C Folder_D Folder A has an index_html DTML document in it which has the line <PARAM name = "entryURL" value = ""> Folder_B, Folder_C, Folder_D all have a property which is called "entryURL". Note that Folder_A which holds the index_html document does NOT have this property. In the previous version of Zope, if I used a URL such as .../Folder_A/Folder_B/Folder_C/Folder_D (... stands for part I don't want to bother typing--not literal) I would get back an html page that had Folder_D's value for the "entryURL" property. Now, after exporting and importing my data into the new version of Zope, if I do the same thing, I get the html page, but with the "entryURL" value for Folder_B--the highest (in the hierarchy) folder that has the property. It seems that the search mechanism is finding the first instance of the property it can find in the URL versus starting at the lowest folder and searching upward. What am I doing wrong? Since Zope is heading towards a 2.0 release, I want to clean up some of the niggling problems with Zope XML-RPC. Here are the problems I know about: 1) There are known bugs in xmlrpclib 0.9.5. This needs to be upgraded to version 0.9.8, or XML-RPC calls using the <struct> tag will fail in a variety of interesting ways. 2) Zope XML-RPC methods cannot return 0, '', or other values which Python considers to be false. These values get mangled somewhere between the External Method and ZPublisher/xmlrpc.py. 3) Either Digital Creations or UserLand needs to write up a page on Zope XML-RPC. We'll point to it from www.xmlrpc.com. 4) Logging and error reporting still leave a lot to be desired. I'm working on this. And one minor issue: 5) Zope XML-RPC does not use the Expat parser shipped with Zope 2.0b1. It uses the slower and less correct xmllib parser included with Python by default. It should be possible to hook xmlrpclib up to Expat, provided that all the various modules involved use the standard Python XML APIs. I can handle (4) myself, and I'll handle (5) when it becomes a critical issue for one of our projects. (1) is easy--I can mail somebody the correct file. I can handle (3), or somebody at DC can handle it if they prefer. But one of these problems is tricky: (2). Zope may have good reasons for throwing away false values, and I don't want to hack on this code until I know what the issues are. Cheers, Eric

Gadfly 1.0 is fully merged into the CVS repository, so it should show up in the public CVS RSN... (remember to check out Zope2). In addition, having talked with Jim, we don't seem to be able to reproduce the problems with transactions, so please make sure your DA is up to date with the CVS repository. How to use Zope 1.10.3 with ZServer?

According to the version history ZODB 2 is no longer supported by Zope 2. However, since I appreciate the intregration of ZServer as an NT Service very much, I would like to use it with my current 1.10.3 app. (I'm running ZopeHTTPServer now, but this is no satisfying solution). Is this possible and will it remain possible with future updates of ZServer? Stefan

Yes. Jim was able to fix it but I don't remember what he did. Also, the Browse tab on Gadfly connections is broken. The longer answer...this happened to me yesterday on my Win98 laptop. It worked fine on Jim's Win95 laptop and Ken's Win98 laptop. So it's a rather odd situation. Serious bug with gadfly transactions?

I'm looking for confirmation on this: In Zope 2.0b1 (and the latest CVS): - When using a gadfly database, nothing is committed, ever. When shutting down Zope, all transactions to gadfly are aborted, and all data is gone. - When doing multiple SQL update/insert/create calls, and making an error in any but the first call leaves any previous call in the DB, they are not rolled back. So, when, in one request, you do an insert and an update, and the update raises an error, the insert is not rolled back. ANNOUNCE: CVS access to XML Document

Thanks to Ken Manheimer you can now follow the bleeding edge Zope/XML developments. You can now check out the XML Document Product from the public CVS repository. Use the following command from within your Zope '/lib/python/Products' directory: cvs -z7 -d :pserver:anonymous@zope.org:/cvs-repository \ checkout -d XMLDocument Products/DC/XMLDocument (You will have to log in, as instructed on http://www.zope.org/Community/CVS_public_access , if you haven't previously.) I doubt that this will affect anyone else, but just in case - the files in the Zope-1.10.2-src.tgz are not the same as the ones tagged as Zope-1_10_2-src in CVS. As far as I can see, there's no tagged version in CVS that matches the .tgz. The one in CVS has version 0.9.4 of the license, the one in the tgz is 0.9.7. I could find no version of, eg, LICENSE.txt, in CVS with 0.9.7. Why do I care? I'm finally trying to apply some decent revision control to the stuff here - for this, I need to be able to track the hacks^W changes that have been made locally.
