Globally Unique Object Ids

Zopsters, Is there a way to genereate globally unique object ids for use with a Zope app. I notices the ZClasses has this sort of thing. I used to use a counter property of the root folder and call an update with creation of an object like so, , but now with concurrency that's not *really* safe, plus this code doesn't seem to work at a certain level in the hirearchy. It doesn't add to the counter. Any suggestions on a glabally unique object ids. Jason Spisak webmaster(a)mtear.com

Zope2 & memory leaks

Has any one done any work checking for memory leaks in Zope? Tim has just released a tool for looking for reference cycles, but I'm not certain if the Extension classes would destroy it. How long do people run their zopes for? My application cpu hog requires around 17Mb so I'm quite interested in ensuring no leaks. -- Robin Becker

Temporary hold on public CVS updates

We will be having a hold on updates to the Zope public CVS repository, in anticipation of the Zope2 beta release thursday. (I didn't say *which* thursday, you'll have to guess:-) (Well, this thursday - but you didn't hear it here.) When we resume updates, there will be a new (and simple) Zope2 module, which will have the ongoing updates. The old Zope module will not be updated, and eventually will be retired - we're taking the opportunity to purge some accumulated cruft from the organization of our repository. It is possible to edit the user folder code, or to create a ZClass which subclasses it to modify the type of object returned by validate(). IMAPAdapter does this, it's validate() method actually works with a low level connection manager to return a User object which defines a whole IMAP API and a connection logic (including connection caching and automatic connection reconstruction). UserFolder based on an RDBMS?

Hello, We're trying to convert a large site over to Zope which makes some heavy use of information stored in an RDBMS and wondered if anyone has done any work extending the BasicUserFolder/BasicUser classes so that they get their information from an RDBMS instead of Bobo? How about any pointers to code which can be used as a starting point? Another question we had was if it would be possible to extend acquisition to include properties/methods defined for the currently authenticated user? This would be useful for user preferences, etc... thanks, -jeff

Zope 2.0.0a4. ZODB3 questions.

Hi! Some questions: -) Is ZODB3 really usuable with 2.0.0a4? I don't mean production quality, but good enough for developement quality, meaning that one can develop already websites with it. -) What is the API for multithreaded db access: Is SomeFolder.attr=PersistentObject() enough, or are there some trapdoors hidden? -) What about the DAs? Andreas -- Win95: n., A huge annoying boot virus that causes random spontaneous system crashes, usually just before saving a massive project. Easily cured by UNIX. See also MS-DOS, IBM-DOS, DR-DOS, Win 3.x, Win98.

Zclass questions

[I'm re-sending this as it appears to have got lost somewhere in the matrix...] [I'm posting this here b4 the Collector in case these have been solved in CVS versions. NB I'm using Zope A4 on IE 4 for Windows] Hi, I've found a bug(s) in ZClasses. Try the following: Create a new product Create a Zclass in the Product Delete the Zclass you just made Create a new Zclass in the same place. You will get a traceback error complaining about missing method manage_addzclass. Press the reload button and try again and it works Also, If you make anything items in a Zclass methods folder apart from a DTML Method Zope will throw up random errors. Sometimes it will put it into the root of the zclass (along with the factory DTML docs), sometimes it will insert it and then throw up intermittant tracebacks relating to missing zclass methods. To fix it, delete the zclass and add it again. Finally, If I make a zclass based on DTML Document and then create an instance of it and then VIEW the instance then IE downloads the document instead of displaying it. NB I was using a metatype of "Visual DTML". I haven't have a chance to try it with netscape yet. A few Q's about ZClasses (things I am going to try but want to ask while I'm posting;): If I make some methods in a Zclass can then call them via: Instance_html/mymethod? (where Instance_html is the url of a DTML Document based zclass) Which way does the acquision ('cuse the spelling) work? Through the Instance or through the zclass or both? If I make a zclass in the methods part of a zclass can I inherit the methods of the parent? Can I pinch the tar.py for my Zope for Windows distrib? ;) Cheers, Anthony Pfrunder
