Folderish object detecting when an object is added to it?

Hi, I got a product that inherits Folder and allows other objects to be stored in it. I use the add method of the object being added, so in the management page of the product I use <INPUT TYPE=submit NAME="manage_addProduct/OFSP/documentAdd:method" VALUE="Add Document"> to store a new DTML document. My problem is that the product has to perform certain actions when an object has been added to it. It would be easy if adding the object was done using a method of the product, but then I can't use the DTML Document add page and I have to create my own. So what I think I need is either for the product to be informed of the new object after it's created, or for the product to bring up the DTML Document add page from inside a method. Is either of these possible? zope2.0 requirements.

ok, I've now got a brief amount of time to take a breath[*], so I'm looking at Zope 2. I've been tracking CVS of ZServer and Zope for a while, and I've had to add ZODB and ZopeZODB3 to the list of modules I'm checking out to make it happy. also: if I read things right, zope 2 currently needs python 1.5.2, but doesn't work properly with 1.5.2? That's almost Zen, right there. [*] for people interested in real world applications of zope - check out http://www.ekno.lonelyplanet.com/, in particular anything under https://admin.ekno.lonelyplanet.com/ - the entire user admin, registration, customer service, and everything else there that's dynamic is done in Zope. Ok, I think I figured it out, using http://www.digicool.com/releases/ExtensionClass/ExtensionClass.html and an old post on this list. Foo.inheritedAttribute('__init__')(self, status, REQUEST) works. I now have another problem with these classes. I want to manage the Master class properties using a management screen that is defined in Master. So, in Master I define: manage_publish = HTMLFile('publish', globals()) And in Foo I add: manage_options = ( ... {'label':'Publishing', 'action' :'manage_publish'}, Which works fine. But, in publish.dtml I have: <FORM ACTION="manage_editPublish" METHOD="post"> manage_editPublish is defined in Master. This doesn't work. When I submit the form I get a browser dialog asking if I want to download the file "manage_editPublish" of type "application/x-httpd-cgi". Hi, I'm building several products that need to share several common attributes and methods, so I put those is a product ('Master') that the other products subclass. My problem is that I can't figure out how to call methods in the Master class and how to access its attributes. Using with and REQUEST

Zopesters, I am trying to render a document by it's id, which is in the REQUEST namespace as 'file'. I am opviously iliterate, so I'll let the code speak:      Should this not render the item whose id it stored in the 'file' variable? It works if 'file' is a property of the document I am calling this code from, but not if it is in the REQUEST namespace. The with's are there because it is in a different hirearchy. My end goal here is to let people attatch a file to an email, only after selecting the the person who it will be to. That lets Zope determine a list of "legal" attatchments, and creataes a select list. The value is the 'id' of the attatched file. Then I am asking it to render it inside the #sendmail tag so that it comes accros as plain text rather than MIME. Any ideas? -- Jason Spisak webmaster(a)mtear.com

Failure to render using #with and REQUEST

Zopeists, Well, I have got it to work using the actual id's of the objects so it must be a syntax thing or a bug. Here's the code which renders correctly:      The above code properly renders the HTML page from the object with id 'foo', just like it should, now 'foo' is stored in REQUEST['file'] from the previous form, and so I should be able to just say:      Regretably that renders the proper page, but tacks on a traceback. I'm assuming the proper page is at the top because of some cache issue. Do I have to make a special type of reference to get a variable in the REQUEST namespace? I'd like to find one or two volunteers to sanity check a Zope 2 aplha 1 release tomorow afternoon. I'm not looking for heavy testing, it is an alpha release after all. I just want to double check that there aren't any dumb problems that I fail to check by testing in my environment, especially in the installation process and instructions.
