Bad idiom to access optional attributes

I just analysed why "AccessControl.Role.RoleManager.get_valid_userids" raised an unexpected "AttributeError". It uses the wrong idiom to access optional attribute: aclu = getattr(aq_base(item), '__allow_groups__', _notfound) This means, that "aclu" is only partially acquisition wrapped and does not behave as usual. Until Tim reported that "hasattr" behaves bad with respect to exceptions, I have been convinved, that the following idiom were correct: if hasattr(aq_base(obj), attrname): attr = getattr(obj, attrname) ... Meanwhile, the best way to access optional attributes seems to be if getattr(aq_base(obj), attrname, notFound) is not notFound: attr = getattr(obj, attrname) ... Please keep this in mind when you push the "Death to 'hasattr'" project. -- Dieter

In Python, you can declare a function to accept an arbitrary number of arguments by adding an argument that starts with * or **. A *-prefixed argument gets a tuple of the non-keyworded arguments that follow the declared arguments, a **-prefixed arguments gets a dictionary of keyword:value pairs of the keyworded arguments not declared in the argument list preceding it. For example, def foo(a, b=2, *stuff, **morestuff): for x in stuff: print x, print for k in morestuff.keys(): print k, morestuff[k] if i call foo(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, x='a', y='b', z='c') foo will print 4 5 6 x a y b z c My problem is that when I write a Script(Python) in zope, and declare a *- or **-prefixed argument to my script, I always get an empty tuple or dictionary. It's not that im using an undeclared argument or anything, otherwise my script would get a runtime error. It just that the tuple or dictionary is not given any values when I make a call with 'extra' arguments. Does zope just not support this python feature? Arbitrary Arguments?

Can Script(Python) objects be given arbitrary arguments, with either the *name or **name style of argument passing from Python? What about Product methods? I've been trying to get this to work for a while now, and my tests and searches seem rather futile. If I write a Script with arguments foo, *args or foo, **dict and call it with a url like .../Test?foo=abc&bar=def&baz=ghi and print the arguments, the foo variable has the correct value, but the args/dict variable is just an empty tuple or dictionary (respectively). The REQUEST variable does contain keys 'foo', 'bar', and 'baz', but the args/dict variables never get them. Pretty much the same thing happens when I try to do the same in a Product method. Product Testing

I'm somewhat new to zope in general, and I've been having some trouble developing products. Im running 2.7 on WinXP as a windows service. My biggest problem is with debugging my products. Right now, the only feedback I get is whether or not the zope service starts successfully. It would really help if I could get some error message as to what part of my product zope choked on. Update Zope Site With Unix Python Scripts

Hello, I am looking for a way to run custom python scripts in Unix, scheduled through cron, that will update the ZODB of our Zope site. The requirement is that our site cannot be shut down to accommodate this. We are running Zope 2.7.0. I tried "zopectl run", but I had to bring down our site to run the script. Does anyone update their Zope site using batch scripts without shutting down their site?
