Or SimpleUserFolder: create a user folder class in a Zope product that subclasses both SimpleUserFolder and OFS.Folder. Then put ZSQL methods and a few TTW python scripts in the folder contents of an instance of this class to make it work. I've done something similar to this with relative success. Renaming a product

Help packaging Zope 2.7 on Windows

Due to the installation and configuration changes made on the current Zope HEAD (soon to be Zope 2.7), ZC's legacy Windows packaging/installation strategy won't work. It won't work because various paths have been changed around, the z2.py script no longer exists, and an instance home needs to be created during installation (or after). I'm wondering if anyone is interested in helping (particularly those who have an interest in keeping Zope running and easily installable under Windows) Here is the current state of things: Currently, Zope builds under Windows 9X/2k/XP with VC++ 6.0 installed using the following set of commands: > configure.bat > nmake build > nmake install This will install a software home into c:\Zope27. Running "python c:\Zope27\bin\makeinstance" will create an instance home. Some work has gone into making Zope service registration possible via the script in lib/python/Zope/Startup/nt/NTService.py. This file was carried over from the now-defunt chrism-install-branch and probably no longer works due to filename changes. What needs to be done: - Use an existing installer-packager program (ala InnoSetup) to a graphical Zope install for Windows. The graphical Zope install for Windows should: - Install a minimal Python (2.2.3, stripped down of all unnecessary stuff besides what's required to run Zope to ensure that the Zope installer archive isn't too large (> 8MB is too large)) - Offer to install an instance home to the place of the installer's choosing. - If installing on a Windows OS that support services, offer to install a service that will control the instance. - Allow people to create further instance homes from an existing software home and optionally register the commands that control the instance as a service (this doesn't need to be plugged in to the graphical installer). I have spent some time attempting to package Zope+Python for Windows using InnoSetup but I haven't gotten very far. I've also put some work into a makefile that builds a customized Python on windows with zlib, win32all, and expat support and then builds Zope with the resulting Python. Anybody else interested? - C

ZODB 3.2b2 release

We have released ZODB 3.2b2 available from the usual place: http://www.zope.org/Products/ZODB3.2 This release includes several critical bug fixes for ZEO. The bugs are more likely to affect sites that see a lot of read conflicts (resolved or unresolved). The bugs can cause data loss or corruption. These are the same bug fixes that went into ZODB 3.1.2b2 last week. ZODB 3.2 has a number of new features and improvements over ZODB 3.1: - improve performance and stability of ZEO - new ZEO authentication protocol - new configuration language, ZConfig, for databases, storages, and ZEO servers - many bug fixes I have included the release notes for 3.2b2 below. Jeremy What's new in ZODB3 3.2 beta 2 ============================== Release date: 16-Jun-2003 Fixed critical race conditions in ZEO's cache consistency code that could cause invalidations to be lost or stale data to be written to the cache. These bugs can lead to data loss or data corruption. These bugs are relatively unlikely to be provoked in sites with few conflicts, but the possibility of failure existed any time an object was loaded and stored concurrently. Fixed a bug in conflict resolution that failed to ghostify an object if it was involved in a conflict. (This code may be redundant, but it has been fixed regardless.) The ZEO server was fixed so that it does not perform any I/O until all of a transactions' invalidations are queued. If it performs I/O in the middle of sending invalidations, it would be possible to overlap a load from a client with the invalidation being sent to it. The ZEO cache now handles invalidations atomically. This is the same sort of bug that is described in the 3.1.2b1 section below, but it affects the ZEO cache. Fixed several serious bugs in fsrecover that caused it to fail catastrophically in certain cases because it thought it had found a checkpoint (status "c") record when it was in the middle of the file. Two new features snuck into this beta release. The ZODB.transact module provides a helper function that converts a regular function or method into a transactional one. The ZEO client cache now supports Adaptable Persistence (APE). The cache used to expect that all OIDs were eight bytes long.

Hello, I want to use the same usernames and passwords in Zope and some other servers. The usernames and password digests are stored in a PostgreSQL database, and a given username and password -pair can be checked with a simple SQL-query. I need to modify Zope to look up and to save passwords in PostgreSQL. Has someone done this before? Can someone tell me which source file contains the method that reads or saves passwords? Can this be done by modifying only one source file? Markus

ZMI tweak

When catching up with the mail in the mailinglist, I remembered a small annoyance I'm having with the ZMI. I really appreciate the errorlog and am using it frequently. But if you don't put it it's own window (or tab) you always need two clicks to reach it. I once put it's icon in the upper ZMI bar to move me to the servers central error log. Is this something that others would like too? BTW: There could be security issues / annoyances when not having access to the central errorlog, maybe the frame should check if there is a local errorlog available that the user can access, when loggin in into ZMI.
