I would like to announce a Zope 2 Bug Day for Monday Dec. 16, starting at 8:00am US Eastern Standard Time. We will be fixing bugs in preparation for the Zope 2.6.1 release. What is a Bug Day? A Bug Day is a day dedicated to "squashing" bugs lodged in the Zope2 collector at http://collector.zope.org/Zope. Anyone may participate. It is best if you can set aside an entire day for bug-squashing, but any amount of time you can spare is obviously useful. Developers and any other interested parties should gather via IRC on the #zope-dev channel on irc.openprojects.net at the time and date above. Thanks! - C

Web Services Sprint???

There has been a (tiny) bit of chatter (over the last couple of months) regarding the status of Web Services in Zope. Would anyone be interested in focusing the chatter into a full blown sprint? We have at least three developers (here) that would be very interested. Eric

PyCon DC 2003: Call For Papers

Hi All, There's a Python Conference coming up March 26-28 in Washington. I think this will be a really great conference and would love to see a bunch of Zope and Zope 3 presentations. I'll be submitting proposals for Zope 3 tutorials and papers and will be hosting a Zope 3 sprint before and/or after the conference. I expect that a bunch of other ZC folks will be involved too. I'd like to experiment with some new kinds of sessions during the conference that provide venues for discussion of issues or group hacking (sort of like micro sprints, "jumps"? ;). Please consider submitting a presentation (tutorial, paper, ...) proposal. The deadline, Dec 15, is pretty soon. I hope to see you there. Jim P.S. The Infrae Sprintathon is an amazing event. There's a lot of terrific work going on and it's been a great opportunity for people to get to know each other and work together. [ANN] OrderedObjectManager Proposal

wrapping unexistent objects

Hi all, I've a little bit tricky problem: How could I wrap a request of an inexistent object and handle request in a transparent way using a defined method? I've searched about __before_publishing_traverse__ and __bobo_traverse__ but them are too few documented (or I didn't understand them). Better explain: I'd like to build a generic product which permit to call undefined function with parameters using dtml as any other python script but this functions aren't define and will be handled by product. Does anyone has some suggestion/Doc about this? TIA, baux

Permissions Mapping Screen

Is there any reason that the acquired permission mapping cannot be displayed next to the check boxes on the Permission mapping screen? For example if I have "Access User Information" checked in the root of a site for Anonymous and I view the Security tab for a folder one level down I would like to see a check symbol to the right of the Anonymous/Access User Information check box. This seems like it would be very very useful. -Brian

information disclosure vulnerability

Hi, probably the HelpSys object shouldn't be available by default to non-authenticated users, because it gives too much information on the currently installed products. access any Zope site this way : http://your.zope.site/HelpSys and you'll learn what products are available on the server. This can't lead to a direct compromise, but this gives way too much information to anonymous users IMHO. Tested today on several low and very high profile sites. bye, Jerome Alet

Bugfix release?

The DateTime bug in 2.6.0 breaks all of my sites. This must be true for very many other people. If we collectively want use of Zope to multiply 10x, I don't think it's a great idea to let a major bug like that stay in the latest-and-greatest release. What do I get from 'cvs co Zope'?

It appears that when I currently do 'cvs co Zope' I get a version that already requires Python 2.2.2. GvR's zdctl.py stuff uses lambdas in a way that Python 2.1 does not grok. How can I get at a Python 2.1.3 post 2.6.0 checkout? Thanks, Stefan -- Those who write software only for pay should go hurt some other field. /Erik Naggum/
