Prototype Zope mxODBC DA

Last week we switched our development server from Zope 1 to Zope 2, and found that it broke the old Solid database adapter. SELECTs worked up, but operations that changed the database left an open transaction dangling. Today I set about trying to turn the Z Oracle Database Adapter into a DA for the mxODBC package. It proved unexpectedly simple, and the results seem to be working fine. (Is there a test suite or test procedure that I could use to verify the level of compliance. ZOracleDA is Level 3 compliant, according to http://www.zope.org/Members/petrilli/DARoadmap; I don't know if the mxODBC DA is too.) The changes to the Z Oracle DA are: * Blow away the src/ and DCOracle subdirectories; I've assumed that mxODBC is already installed. * mxODBC wants mxDateTime, which uses the package name 'DateTime'. This conflicts with Zope's DateTime package. <sigh> The fix, luckily, is simple: edit mxDateTime.h in the Solid subdirectory of mxODBC, to import mx.DateTime, and install mxDateTime accordingly. * Apply the patches below. The bulk of the patch is just simple renaming; the only real changes are to import ODBC.Solid, to parse apart the connection string (mxODBC wants three arguments, not just a single string). Outstanding bugs: the icon for the DA object is broken, and I can't figure out why, and the database browser still doesn't work. Anyway, the next step is to make the mxODBC DA not dependent on Solid, but capable of using Adabas or any other database supported by mxODBC. Question for Christopher Petrilli: because the patches from the Oracle DA are so small, does merging the mxODBC and Oracle DAs into one code base seem feasible? HTML to DOC, RTF etc.

A while back I posted a question concerning converting a html page to word or rtf etc. formats. Not many suggestions followed. In case anyone is looking for a solution: KH Software Development makes a product called (believe it or not) Document Converter. It runs on windows and can convert from almost anything to almost anything. It can do this via command line or it can be run as an app. You can download a demo at: www.khsd.com/dc.htm Sorry about the product plug (i'm not associated with them in any way), but the project I am working has a requirement to convert htm to doc and no one could help. So I thought i would post this "solution" in case others were stuck also.... DR

load_site.py - patch1 final

Hello! I've debugged my patch to load_site.py and now I am publishing it here. Full load_site.py.gz attached. My patch adds html parsing - load_site.py, while traversing files and directories, parse HTML files before uploading. <HEAD></HEAD> completely removed, <BODY> replaced with , </BODY></HTML> - with . <TITLE></TITLE> if present parsed and title beacomes Document's title. FYI: Browser javascript rendering differences

Hi, In patching some code over the weekend I discovered some differences in how browsers display error messages etc. Although not strictly zope related I think it may be of use to some people. When displaying a page with a reference to javascript code: <script language="javascript" src="mymethod"></script> where mymethod is a DTML method which contains a traceback Netscape will display the traceback regardless of the main referring page. Internet Explorer will IGNORE this javascript reference completely. If you view the source of a page containing javascript code Netscape will show the page AFTER the javascript code has been applied. Internet Explorer will show the page BEFORE the javascript code has been applied. So, if you have a script: <script>document.write("mystuff")</script> Netscape will display: mystuff where Internet Explorer shows <script>..</script>. Furthermore, both browsers will show the source of the last CORRECTly rendered page. So, if you have a javascript error and hit refresh and then view the source the last correctly rendered page is shown - not the current one. This is entirely separate to the completely different DOM's implemented by Netscape and Internet Explorer. Hopefully this will save some people going bald debugging cross-browser javascript generated by Zope. Cheers, Anthony Pfrunder

Problem with Properties's method

Ok, here is the status on NotMail. I am going to fix it soon to work with the current CVS version of Zope. This does not guarantee that it will work with 2.0.1.
