I have the following problem in DTML, which one way or another I can't seem to solve. On basis of a form input I want to call a DTMLDocument/Method, building a new 'workspace'. To this end I want to: 1. create a folder (using manage_addFolder) 2. create a document within the new folder (using manage_clone) To this end I have tried many ways to access the namespace of the new Folder object and calling it in every way I could think of  tag. However whatever I do calling the folder, the document is created in the _current_ folder. This is driving me nuts. Can somebody shed some light, please, please? I'd like to have the code, thanks. It seems that your statement clashes with what Jeff Bauer says: Jeff says sockets, you say named pipes. Named pipes are possibly more efficient on Win32, and perhaps I could do a version 2 that does this. Hi all, I posted this to the main list, but realised that it's probably much better off here.... This is weird, I have a Zope server running on port 9673 on a machine. I also have an Apache rewrite rule that starts up a pcgi_publisher.py process. The rewrite rule points to the right cgi and the Apache web server logs show that things are happening. Can anyone give me a clue as to what stupid thing I've done now? (sigh). At the beginning of the world, while inventing the internet (no, Al Gore didn't :-)) I suggested a patch adressing that issue. However, I didn't write: e=(DateTime('GMT') + 365).rfc822() but: try: e=(self.ZopeTime()+365).rfc822() except: e='the old date value' The try: except: statement is for the guys whose timezone is not in DateTime.py. In that case, DateTimeObject+offset raises an exception. And yes, I find that using DateTime('GMT') is better than writing self.ZopeTime(). What exactly does the Win32 Zope CGI executable _do_? I mean the one that comes with Zope and is stored as <installationname>.exe (eg., website.exe) under the web server directory you selected as part of the installation sequence. I assume it communicates with the Zope service, but how? Using HTTP? The reason I ask is that I'd like to emulate the behaviour in an ISAPI filter DLL. The cool thing about filters is that your filter can grab all requests and preprocess them any way it likes. I have already written a filter which rewrites URLs so that eg., "/QuickStart" becomes "/cgi-bin/zope.exe/QuickStart", and this works perfectly, except that Zope always forces <base href="..."> in documents, so only the initial document you refer to accepts this URL okay. All others go to the zope.exe URL. Product icon woes

Hi there, I finally got a simple product working (mostly by hacking away at TinyTable while referencing Amos' tutorial to figure out what I'm doing :). It all seems to work, but for the silly icon! First the icon didn't load, but this was due to me forgetting to import ImageFile in the product's __init__ file. My goof. I put in the MailHost's icon as a test icon, but then I drew my own icon. I put it in the right place. I restarted Zope. Still the MailHost icon. I've done just about everything I've come up with, including breaking the product, to make it use my new icon. But whatever I do, it keeps coming up with that MailHost icon! What am I doing wrong? Is this icon somewhere deep in the Zope database and not coming out? Help would be appreciated. Regards, Martijn

complex zope applications

hi folks, i'm in the middle of developing a zope application and its starting to get complicated. i'm looking for tips on how to manage the complexity or design to minimize it. the application is a registry of trainers and training events. because of the client's needs and my experience with relational databases, the backend is SQL Server. the first part was a training calendar. it deals with three main objects(tables): TrainingEvent, Person, Location. there are about 4 other supporting tables: County, DateTime, etc. i originally planned to use ASP, but couldn't find any tools i was happy with. already a little behind, i gambled and decided to use zope. not knowing any python, i went the DTML/SQL method route. this part of the application is working well. here's the problem. the full (larger) scope of the project is now becoming clear. to model all the data will probably require 18-20 tables. working with the data will require 3 or 4 separate applications. any ideas on how to develop this in zope in a manageble way? the first application is composed of a LOT objects: DTML input forms, DTML form handlers, SQL methods, etc. i'm afraid if i keep going this route things will spiral out of control. what seems like a better structure is 3 tier: python business objects talk to (encapsulate) the database. zope controls the business objects. the main reason i switched to zope is that it seems like zope is set up for this. before i jump into this, is there anyone who has done something similar? can you offer any advice or moral support? sorry for the broad questions, but i guess i'm looking for feedback at a higher level. over the next few months i'll have 1000s of more specific questions :) thanks in advance for any feedback, -scott ----- Scott Lewis Baltic Avenue Productions csl(a)balticave.com
