#in on a list of dictionaries, how do I iterate over keys?

I have an external function that returns a list of dictionaries. I want to iterate over the list, then iterate over each key/value pair in the dictionary so I can create a table of key:value This works:    In this case, sequence-item shows as a dictionary. Now I need to iterate over that sequence item, but no matter how I try, I can't do it. I've tried saving the contents of sequence-item in REQUEST, then using #in on that variable, no-go.. I guess I'm looking for something like this:    =    So if MyFunction() returns [{name:'fred',zip:123},{name:'bill',zip:255}] then I want to see name = fred zip = 123 name = bill zip = 255 If I use  then I can use  But then I have to manually list all the keys and I have to know them in advance. Z Classes hangup.

Hello, I recently posted a message on the Zope list asking a very important (to us) question about Z Classes, and haven't received a response, so I thought I would try zope-dev instead. I need to be able to create the following setup: Z Class: + MyBaseClass (inherits ObjectManager, isFolderish) Methods: - index_html (DTML Method) - doc_a (DTML Method) - doc_b (DTML Method) where index_html is:   and doc_a is: This is Base Document A. and doc_b is: This is Base Document B. Now, when I make the following (in Zope Management interface): + / (Root Folder) - MyBaseClassInstance (MyBaseClass) I can browse to http://localhost/MyBaseClassInstance/index_html and see: This is Base Document A. This is Base Document B. So far so good. Now, here's where I am having problems. I need to override doc_a in the INSTANCE ONLY, like: + / (Root Folder) + MyBaseClassInstance (MyBaseClass) - doc_a (DTML Method) where doc_a is: This is Instance Document A. such that navigating to http://localhost/MyBaseClassInstance/index_html yields: This is Instance Document A. This is Base Document B. When I try to drop doc_a (DTML Method) in MyBaseClassInstance I get a "Bad Request" message, telling me the id doc_a is already in use. :( I don't want to have to make a new Z Class, and I don't want to mess with index_html or doc_b at all (though I may, in another instance, want to change index_html to reverse the order of doc_a and doc_b, or just redefine doc_b instead, etc. Each instance will be unique. Changing the base class should change all instances, except those which have overloaded the changed aspect. As I understand it, Z Classes already do this just fine.) Making a new Z Class works, but I'll end up with 300 (NOT an exageration) Z Classes, and my Zope Management UI will be quite ugly (plus, it will require all of our web developers to work in Control Panel all the time, which isn't the usual way of doing things.) I tried being a bad boy and patching the source such that _checkId's allow_dup parameter defaulted to 1, but it didn't do as I thought it would. I shouldn't be messing around in there, anyways, since I'm not very familiar with Zope's internals, yet. If only I can get this to work, my company will be using Zope on two MAJOR deals we just got. I can't mention names, now, but I promise DC would benefit from the press involved once the projects are complete. This is the only hitch in our gitty-up at the moment. Equating dates

Zopists: I am looking to equate two DateTime objects of different percision for the day in a DTML expression like so:    Where date is today and appointment date is whenever. However because one or more of the dates has percision to the hour, and the other just to the day, does anyone know how to equate them just on the day level. In other words: ;) OR  After reading the DateTime module I can't tell how to equate just the day portion of a DateTime object. Any hints? -- Jason Spisak webmaster(a)mtear.com

Security glitch on user-editing form

I just found that Zope presents the user-editing form (manage_users) with the password in plaintext. That's a bit crude. The HTML code that Zope produces is like this: ... <TR> <TD VALIGN="TOP"> <STRONG>Password</STRONG> </TD> <TD VALIGN="TOP"> <INPUT TYPE="PASSWORD" NAME="password" VALUE="cucumber" SIZE="40"> </TD> </TR> ... This is a security problem -- in two ways: Firstly, the password is in the HTML, and secondly, the number of characters in the password can be interpreted by the user. Also it's quite redundant. There's no reason for Zope to pass the actual password. Zope should give the HTML thus: <INPUT TYPE="PASSWORD" NAME="password" VALUE="123456789" SIZE="40"> If the user posts changes without changing the password, Zope can detect if the password is receives is "123456789" and ignore it. A better dummy password should perhaps be chosen to avoid clashing with potential real-world passwords. Alternatively, a check box could be provided requiring the user to check the box in order to change password. Just my 2 cents' worth. The future obviously is in public-key encryption, but until Zope gets it, plaintext passwords ought to be secured as tightly as possible. Forcing Zope to render a URL

Is there a way to have Zope render, as part of a DTML method, a specific URL in order to take advantage of direct traversal. SQLTESTG.py is a demo file for kwParsing which has no relation to gadfly. Gadfly is more likely to have problems on Solaris than on win32, since it was developed on win32 (but afaik there are no portability issues between win32 and unices for gadfly, although unix filesystems seem to work faster). ymmv rsn afaik imho fwiw. -- Aaron Watters

Experimental Symbolic Link product/patch

>From time to time there has been interest in some sort of symbolic link feature for Zope. Well, I took a stab at it. On zope.org in the contributed software section, you will find Pointer, a symbolic link type product. Install the product, and apply the patch, and try it out. Note that this has only been tested against 1.11.0pr1, and barely at all even on that :-) The target of a pointer is a Unix or URL-like /-sepratated string. It can be absolute (leading /) or relative. It can contain '..' componetents for parent links. Acquisition happens backwards through the link, too. The demo.bbe contains an exported folder that shows off how a pointer shortcuts the namespace, but still aquires through the link. If you put pointer_demo in http://www.yourhost.com/zope/pointer/demo, try accessing http://www.yourhost.com/zope/pointer_demo/c/c1/p/a1/doca1. See how a1 and show_name are aquired because they are in the traversed path, even though a and b/b1 are not in the URL. I haven't thought much at all about the security implications of this, so beware.
