Access to class attributes in ZClasses

Zs: Is it possible to either modify class attributes defined in (python) base classes or create class attributes in ZClasses -- not in instances of ZClasses -- but the ZClass itself? These don't need to be defined as properties for use in the standard management interface, just found in the namespace.

UserDb authentication problem

Hey, I seem to be having an authentication problem with UserDb and users logging in from IE > 4.0 and lynx. As far as I can tell the problem is that with UserDb an authentication domain (or realm as IE calls them) is not set. User Folders which specify "Zope" as the domain work fine. I've looked around the source trying to figure out where this is specified, but I haven't had much luck since I'm new to both Python and Zope. If anyone out there has encountered this or can offer ideas on where I might find the relavent piece of code, it would be much appreciated. Thanks, -n

zope 1.x seemed to announce when it is up and running and log various messages. Zope 2.x seems to be silent by default. I prefer the old way. At the least, it would be great if it would announce that it is finished loading and ready to take requests. Paul Prescod

Zope Bug #432 Can't Add ZClass in Product Management

Zopists: I noticed a bug report (number and name as per subject) that sounds like the same problem I have found: If the 'XMLDocument' product is in the .../Products/ directory attempts to add a ZClass to a product fail. Editing the XMLDocument/__init__.py files initialize method so that context.registerBaseClass is only called once (for XMLDocument.XMLDocument) allows ZClasses to be added to a product. I don't think this is due to particulars of the XMLDocument product, In a product I am working on the presence of more than one 'context.registerBaseClass' call in the 'initialize; method also causes problems. The behavior is the same under both zope 2.0.0b4 and b5 on redhat/mandrake 6.0 with kernel 2.2.9. Should it be possible to register more than one python base class in a single product?

Oh another idea that's kinda nifty keen once we get LOB plumbing up to Zope... direct traversal via SQLMethods :-) <IMG SRC="sqlGetImage/image_id/foobarhere"> Kinda nifty huh? Unfortunately, LOB plumbing will most likely not come until a customer pays for it, simply out of the need to rewrite large chunks of the old Aqueduct product that's under SQLMethods. Some thoughts, since I've wondered about similar things myself, mostly to keep the size of the ODB manageable under heavy use. So, what you would need to do is create a "proxy" object in the ODB that has information pertaining to the file. It would know how to get the information out of the RDBMS (or even file system?) and pass it back. It should probably also cache things reasonably. It would also need to support BLOBS probably in the database (I only know DB2 and Oracle for this, and I'd rather not admit to the latter :-). Honestly, it shouldn't be that hard, and I think such "proxy" objects could be useful for any site that has large files as well (for example, I've talked with one customer who needs to provide access to a couple hundred gig of data, not something you'd want in the ZODB honestly.). Zope and Com : CoInitialize done on each thread by Zserver?

I'm working on an ADO DA for Z2. I'll need to do two things to get this to work correctly with Zope 2. 1. Before win32com is imported, set sys.coinit_flags=0 2. In each thread, call CoInitializeEx(COINIT_FREETHREADED) I've seen mentioned earlier on this list that Z2 was already calling CoInitialize, but I can't find it in any .py files. Before the next Z2 Beta comes out, can I get this setup as an "official" thing? If Zope isn't calling CoInitialize yet, I'll provide a patch if someone could point me to the appropriate zserver file... medusa/select_trigger.py doesn't seem like the correct place.. Including templates

Hello, I started to work with Zope two days ago. After a short introduction I started to work on a website. One line in the sorce-code of a document says: "<cfinclude template="../dddd/dddd.txt">" How can I transform it into zope-code? This dddd.txt is a JavaScript-File to be included in nearly every document of the website (for using a sitemap). Thank you for any help! Greeting from Germany Helge
