CVS and Zope methods

Hi Zopists, I am working on a Zope project and we decided to store source code in CVS. With python Zope products there is no problem. The work with CVS is very comfortable but I do not know how to make comfortable also the working with Zope methods which we would like have them in CVS also in plain text format and not in zope export or XML format. I would prefer this: Put Zope methods into our CVS and edit them in my working copy of CVS. When I restart Zope the Zope methods which are in my CVS working copy will be placed into ZODB or they will replace the content of existing ones. Is this possible and if yes can you advice me how to do this? Or give me some URL on documentation how others solve this problem. strange FTP bug

I'm using python's ftplib to automate transfer of my dtml methods back and forth into my ZClasses I seem to be unable to GET a method called 'filtered_meta_types' from /Control_Panel/Procucts/myProduct/myZClass/propertysheets/methods I get instead a permissions error 550. I get the same transferring using another FTP client. I checked the ownership etc and it should be OK. I can only think it's some horrible acquistion problem relating to the default filtered_meta_types thing. Indeed when I rename to FMT it all works quite happily. Is this kind of 'feature' known/expected? -- Robin Becker

The FSF page says this in regards to the ZPL: [snip] > We urge you not to use the license of Zope for software you write. However, > there is no reason to avoid running programs that have been released under > this license, such as Zope. So what is the issue you are raising? Any software you write on or for Zope can be licensed in any manner you choose. Stallman et al may not "approve" of the ZPL mostly I think because it has more in common with the BSD license than the GPL, in that binary distribution of Zope is allowed without the source code.

Juan, thanks for shining some light towards this murky area. Maybe ZWiki and other zope products need to be LGPL or dual-licensed, maybe the zope license can use some refinement. I for one won't know without seeing some enlightened discussion of the issue. This stuff is unsexy but important. Best regards, -Simon

zope and os/2

hi/2 all... Simulate DTML-Method Proxy-Roles for python-product-methods ?

Hello. I've started to implement a small Product in Python. One method should be able to access an object in a folder which isn't accessible by anonymous but only by a special role. ZopeBug: No Last-Modified for misc_/.../*.gif objects!!!!

I was looking at the cacheability of my website in zope, and saw that the misc_/OFSP/*.gif images (as in the icon objects) are NOT cacheable because they don't return *any* date info. If they *at least* returned a Last Modified, they'd be cacheable. I looked at the Zope Source and it looks like misc_.py just calls ImageFile objects. Why aren't the ImageFile objects setting these header info bits correctly? I'm not very knowledgable about Zope inside, but this seems like it should be happening. A side effect of fixing this problem would be that the manage screens would suddenly work much faster since the icons would not need to be reloaded EVERY time!! Here is the HEAD info from two ImageFile objects. The first is in the folder images which has a SiteAccess object that forces the Cache-Control object, a normal Image would not have the Cache-Control line. Hi, I was wondering how the stuff for attributes that are replaceable in instance and singleton attributesis getting on. Itamar says the code is in the CVS for Zope, but neither of us can find any documentation. Could whoever did the coding please put something in the Interfaces Wiki or point us to where the official documentation lives? Also, when is it going to land in a erleased Zoep version? 2.3 I guess... cheers, Chris

is _getCopy slow?

My product is performing incredibly badly. The culprit appears to be the _getCopy call, which in turn calls importFile, and takes a whole second to call each time. The object being copied is in each case typically a folder containing 3 - 5 documents. Is _getCopy inherently slow, or am I misreading the profiler output, or is it more likely there's something wrong with my code? Cheers, seb
