RFClarification: Security on Product Attributes

Hi, If I have the following lines in a Python Product: def __init__(self, id): """initialise a new instance of product""" self.id = id self.title = 'Title!' self.anInt = 0 self.aString = 'testing' Are these attributes protected by the security machinery? If so, how so? Can I read them? I think the answer is yes for anInt and no for aString. Don't know the mechanics of title and id, I'm guessing they're going to be special cases whatever... Are they protectable by permissions? I do hope so although my experience is that, at best, it's not necessary, which is contrary towhat I thought the new security policy was. Should they have to be protected by permissions? Probably... Looking for comments-ly, Chris

Best way to start on ZPatterns ?

OK, I've finally got a little leisure to re-assess my way of making Zope apps (which so far has been 99.9% ZClasses) and it seems the way to go might be ZPatterns. In true Zope tradition the docs (at least the simple docs) seem to leave quite a steep learning curve :-) After searching the zope-dev mail for a while I've happened on the thread from Steve S. describing the simplest example he could think of. Thanks a lot for all the guidance on ZPatterns so far. Our company is building a Customer Relationship Management system using ZOPE and ZPatterns. We have a object model and basic Dataskins and Specialists in place. At this point we thought it a good idea to share the object model with the Zope community and invite comments since we will be giving it back to the Zope community. Passing namespace to method

How do I construct a method of an object, so that whenever that method is called, the current namespace is passed with it? I.e.: class myclass: [...] def myfunc(self, context): if context['sequence-index'] == 10: raise 'sequence-index is %s' % \ context['sequence-index'] called from DTML, like so: <dtml-in "objectValues('Spam')"> <dtml-var myfunc> </dtml-in> will raise an exception if sequence-index is 10 or more? Specifically, the reason I want this function is that I feel using <dtml-if sequence-even> <tr bgcolor="<dtml-var color_sequence_even>"> <dtml-else> <tr bgcolor="<dtml-var color_sequence_odd>"> </dtml-if> is a bit tedious (and ugly!) in the long run.. If this isn't implemented, where would the right place to implement it be? -Morten

Document Properties

Hi, i have a problem with using properties from dtml documents. I have a sql method with the following code: select * from foo where bar = <dtml-var bar> If i have 5 folders with different properties for bar and inside these folders are dtml methods named as index_html then i get five different results. But if have 5 dtml documents with 5 different properties bar i doesn't work. Who can tell me why it doesn't work and how i can make it working. thanks

ZCatalog index error

Im running into an odd bug with ZCatalog: I have am running a catalog query and Im getting this message. File D:\zope\lib\python\Products\ZCatalog\Lazy.py, line 193, in __getitem__ File D:\zope\lib\python\Products\ZCatalog\Catalog.py, line 197, in __getitem__ KeyError: 52536 This is the line where it seems to be setting all the scores to one, and I guess it can find the item 52536. else: # otherwise no score, set all scores to 1 r=self._v_result_class(self.data[index]).__of__(self.aq_parent) r.data_record_id_ = index r.data_record_score_ = 1 r.data_record_normalized_score_ = 1 The thing is my catalog is only 17,000 records in size, I have no item 52536 (no wonder it cant find it). I guess my best plan would be somehow to remove that the record for that item if I could... hmm... Any other ideas? -- Andy McKay, Developer. ActiveState.

Splitter

Providing full-text search is an advantage that Zope over other web app servers. However, the current Zcatalog does not respect the local languages. There is more than 3 splitters which works for different languages already. I do think anyone would see zope being split by this splitter issue. Moreover, building multi-lingual sites is certainly a must of the web age, make survey for the big corps, being globally business you must talk all languages. If zope really want to be the leader, zope must talk all languages. Instead of just taugh zcatalog to listern all language, I would like to see the lang= tag attributes were removed from the Zope source completely. Allowing the zope manager to set lang and encoding as his own will. Moreover, make Zcatalog use unicode internally. (may be turning zope completely a unicode app). Rgs, Kent Sin

There are quite a few people who think this is a problem. Evan has good reasons for wanting the current behavior. If this problem is considered to be significant, there are, a number of possible alternatives: 1. Change the name of Evan's objects, in which case "Python Method" shouldn't be a choice. 2. Change the behavior of Evan's objects to more closely match what Python programmers would recognize as a Python method. Thus the poll did not ask the right question. Shane
