Shane, Well there is less blood on the floor today. It's not claiming memory as fast, but I've still had 400MB go in 3 hours. It's a slow steady decline. And the cache is slowly inclining. ZODB now supports user-defined __get/set/delattr__ methods

I've just checked in some changes to ExtensionClass, and ZODB in the Zope CVS tree that provide support for user-defined (python) __get/set/delattr__ methods. These methods now have the same semantics as they do in standard Python classes. This means that you can define your own __get/set/delattr__ hooks and they will automatically work with, rather than break, the persistence system's use of the low-level attribute hooks. These changes are available in the Zope public CVS and will be available in future Zope releases, including 2.2 and it's beta releases. The changes are not in the 2.2 alpha1 release. 2.2.0a1 won't work with query objects

Hi, all, I tried compiling 2.2.0a1 straight out of the box on Solaris 7. Everything worked great until I tried querying a tiny table or MySQL database. The following code causes Zope to prompt me for a login, and no matter what user name I use (even the superuser), it comes back "unauthorized." <dtml-in smalltable> <dtml-var myvariable> </dtml-in> If I take out the <dtml-in> section, my pages pops right up. Create an empty DTML Method

I want to write some dtml code that will add a DTML method that is totally empty. The add_DTMLMethod method in Zope puts in the default Zope content. How do I avoid that? -L

Hello Karl, who has same name as me:-) Yes, I can create child zclass nested in parent zclass according to the Howto on management interface. And the zclasses were inherited from Object Manager and Catalog aware class. But still I can't do it programatically. If you know how to do it, your advice would be appreciated. (Due to the schedule, I decided to just go ahead according to Rik Hoekstra's advice) I found a interesting fact. When we access some ZClass in the product folder, the typical syntax used is(in DTML) this().Control_Panel.Products['MyProductFolderName'](DTML) self.Control_Panel.Products['MyProductFolderName'] (Python) This syntax seems to say that Products is a dictionary object of Python, because we can access each product folder by key. But when I try this, <dtml-var "_.len(this().Control_Panel.Products"> this returns just "1" But interestingly, <dtml-in "this().Control_Panel.Products.objectIds()> - or - <dtml-in "this().Control_Panel.Products['MyProductFolderName'].objectIds()"> returns expected results. Should I think "Product" folder under "Control_Panel" to be a kind of dictionary object? We propose that only copying and adding should involve an implicit "take responsibility" action. 3. The ability of the superuser to be responsible for objects should be acquirable in some fashion, so that objects such as LoginManager and GenericUserSource (which require objects to be created inside them for bootstrapping) can permit "standard" Zope objects to be created within them by the superuser. Currently, this would have to be done by overriding _setObject in these classes such that it doesn't call manage_fixupOwnership. 4. The SecurityManager API and ZopeSecurityPolicy have a shared design flaw that could seriously impact performance when used with user objects which are not part of the ZODB. Specifically, ZSP asks executing objects for their "owner" objects, which causes a getUserById() hit, which can potentially cause external database lookups... for every single DTML name lookup! Further complicating things is that GenericUserSource and GenericUserFolder may call back to this very same security lookup in order to determine access to an SQLMethod or LDAPMethod needed to look up the user! We propose a refinement to the addContext/removeContext that allows the "responsible user" to be placed on the context stack, rather than having it looked up later by the security policy. This could still have a significant performance impact when calling DTML methods in an "in" loop, but would still be better than the current situation in all but pathological cases.

Zope-2.2.0a1 and Products (SiteAccess)

Hi everyone, After the announcement that the version 2.2.0a1 of Zope was out, I decided to go for it. I was able to make it running in no time. I tried to install two different Products: ZMySQLDA and SiteAccess. The first one worked fine the first time. But I get an error starting the server (running PCGI) when the product SiteAccess 1.0.1 is installed. I have a feeling that it has to do with the new Ownership feature in Zope. But since I'm a Zope newbee I haven't been able to locate the exact problem (sorry about that) and so I might be wrong. Has anyone else experienced that kind of problems? Should I go back to 2.1.6? Actually, the reason I went for 2.2.0a1 is because of the fact that upgrading 2.1.6 to 2.2.0a1 didn't seem trivial because of the ownership thing. Any comments are welcome. Thank you for your time.
