RequestContainer ?

There's a RequestContainer instance at the top of the acquisition list, as accessed through aq_parent or through aq_inner.aq_parent. Previously, with recursive acquisition hacks, you could tell that you were at the end of the trail because aq_parent returned None. Unfortunately, RequestContainer doesn't seem to be acquisition-wrapped, and doesn't support the aq_* attributes. Here's an external method suggested by Evan Simpson in August, which doesn't work because of having the RequestContainer at the end of the trail. ---- def aq_containment(ob): context = [] while ob is not None: context.append(ob.aq_base) ob = ob.aq_inner.aq_parent ob = context.pop() while context: ob = context.pop().__of__(ob) return ob ---- What is the recommended, forwards-compatible way of knowing when to stop recursively looking through acquisition wrappers? -- Steve Alexander Software Engineer Cat-Box limited http://www.cat-box.net

aq_.* names reserved?

I'm hacking around with some external methods called aq_containment and aq_context. I just found out that I can't call them from DTML. I can call them from the URL line of a browser just fine. If I rename them to a_containment and a_context, they work from DTML. I guess there's something in Acquisistion.c that reserves all aq_.* names. Acquisition Confusion :S

Hi Jim, (or any zope-dev'ers who can explain this ;-) I've just been reading: http://www.zope.org/Members/jim/Info/IPC8/AcquisitionAlgebra ...and I've got confused on the 'Getting the containment wrapper' section. In anser to 'What is A.B.C.D?' I can't see how you can get: ((D o (C o A)) o (B o A)) Here's my working: A.B.C.D = (B o A) : .C.D = ((C o A) o (B o A)) : .D = ((D o C) o ((C o A) o (B o A))) You can't apply the simplification: ((Z o Y) o (Y o Z)) to the leftmost section 'cos the brackets are in the wrong place... so how to you make the jump to: = ((D o (C o A)) o (B o A)) (but should it?!) Also, is the definition "aq_inner is obtained by finding the innermost wrapped object" the same as "aq_inner is the 'self'/'object' part of the current aquisiton wrapper"? Advice on DTMLDocument

Hi there, Well a while ago I came across a bug that I couldnt cut and paste and object. A few people helped me out on that, thanks. Ive had a week of squishing bugs and finally got to this one. The reason why? I was subclassing DTMLDocument but using my own __init__ (similar to one where I dont subclass from DTMLDocument), where I didnt fiddle with __name__. The result was when absolute_url() was called I was getting: http://fork:8080/code/test/ElementWithAttributes ! Solutions I have found for this: - Dont subclass from DTMLDocument. This is not an option for me. - Dont try to use your own __init__, use DTMLDocument. This works great, but now I have to recreate all my objects. My current scheme is create the object in manage_addObject, let DTMLDocument do the __init__, then manipulate it then and there in the manage_addObject. Help would be appreciated on: - Why is this happening? A class fine breaks if you subclass DTMLDocument, it would seem __name__ is being used some times, not in others. - Is something funky happening in DTMLDocument __init__, which subclasses DTMLMethod etc...? Ive got a fix, but I only sort of know why and that bugs me. Thanks. -- Andy McKay, Developer. ActiveState.

Hmm... were you issue the SQL from the Test tab? Try to make an actual ZSQL method. And see if it works. The ZODBC adapter had that problem... (Test tab did not work, but actual ZSQL worked.) I'd be shocked if it has not been fixed all this time. See, this would be what I call a carcass piece of software. No one maintains it anymore. It just sits dead there, despite that the problem has been metioned again and again. :) You'll do a great service if you could fix it and upload it to Zope website. ODBC Error

Hi all, this pertains to Windows 98/ODBC Connection & zope 2.1.4 (ODBC Driver is ZODBC Database Adapter 3.1.0b2 (Development) 1999/09/03 - installed from the zope site). I created a sample 2-table database using VisualFox 6.0, I got the connection ok in the control panel, I added the ODBC object in the zope control panel and actually succeeded in connecting. The problem is that no matter what I do, with any valid sql statement like "select * from test1" gives me the following error: Error Type: ValueError Error Value: unpack sequence of wrong size (RoleMgr) Has anyone played with DBC/DBF files and encountered a similar problem? thx. Where do I place the ZClass. I've put a dtml method named index_html in it. I have a specialist and the ZClass in a product folder. is this the correct way. Bugs in new Security Stuff :P (part1)

Right, firstup this thing about HTMLFile's which form part of the management interface. Why are they totally immune to the security stuff? It gets really confusing when something works fine in a management screen and yet breaks everywhere else, especially when it's not throwing a security error (more in part II ;-) So, why is it like this? cheers, Chris
