Comparing folder instances

Hi, A quick question. How do I compare folder instances ?(or any instances as a matter of fact). Here is a simple code showing what I tried: <dtml-in "objectValues(['Folder'])"> <dtml-var "_.getitem('sequence-item')"> <dtml-var "images"> <dtml-var "_.getitem('sequence-item')==images"> </dtml-in> Here is now the resulting HTML <Folder instance at 85cf958> <Folder instance at 85cf958> 0 <Folder instance at 858a168> <Folder instance at 85cf958> 0 Why isn't the first comparison returning true? What I want to use is something like: <dtml-in "objectValues(['Folder'])"> <dtml-if "_.getitem('sequence-item')==images"> EQUAL <dtml-else> NOT EQUAL </dtml-if> </dtml-in> Thanks a lot in advance for your comments. Hi Folks, As for "re-doing" DTML, there's a cogent point made in Extreme Programming circles that goes something like this: "Names matter. For every time someone writes (types?) the name of an object, it will be read 10 times. Pick Good Names." Much of the DTML confusion arises from "names" that look like they were chosen to save typing effort. That may be OK for a project that will never be used by more than a small handful of folks who can answer questions for each other, but Open Source Zope is going on it's second birthday now. Too many newbies keep stumbling over things like "_", which should have been named something meaningful quite some time ago. But that's just one example. Instead of x vs. "x", how about render(x), or x.render(), and execute(x), or x.execute(). Maybe expr="x" and name="y" are clear to someone, but what matters to me is what process is going to be carried out on x and y, and I can't tell that from reading DTML. I do understand that one of the points of OO is that I shouldn't have to know the details of the actual process that happens when I hand one object to another. Ironically, as things are, I have to "know" anyhow, in order to get things working. But the worst part is, even after working through many examples of complex DTML, this stuff is still not "obvious". The greatest mystery to me is how something this obscure could have possibly been written in Python, which is about as obvious as code gets. Still Zopin', Jerry S.

ZPatterns bug: typo in Transactions.py

ZPatterns, latest released version. def abort_sub(self, transaction): In Transactions.py, aborting a subtransaction will fail because of a method signature mismatch. Was: def abort_sub(self, transaction): self.tpc_abort() Should be: def abort_sub(self, transaction): self.tpc_abort(transaction) I think there's something not quite right about the way ZPatterns is handling subtransactions, even with this patch, and the other one related to Transactions.py that I posted a while back. is INSTANCE_HOME broken on Win32?

Hello :-) I'm trying to make Squishdot work with INSTANCE_HOME nicely. However, the testing is going wrong on a normal Win32 Install... I had lots of lines that went something like: f=open('%s/Products/%s.dtml' % (SOFTWARE_HOME,file)) Which generates: E:\Zope\2.2.0\lib\python/Products/Squishdot/validArticle.dtml That's not very nice in itself but seems to work with Python's open... However, when I change them all to be like, for example: f=open('%s/Products/%s.dtml' % (INSTANCE_HOME,file)) I then get: 'E:\\Zope\\2.2.0/Products/Squishdot/validArticle.dtml' which is: - horrible - wrong - doesn't work ;-) Anyway, I'm looking for something like INSTANCE_HOME or SOFTWARE_HOME that: - works in an INSTANCE_HOME setup - works in a non-INSTANCE_HOME setup - works on both Unix and Windows.. Making some DTML Documents catalog aware

Hi everybody, I already posted this message to the zope(a)zope.org list but I had no answer. I have a Zope site with many DTML document and I would like to make them catalog aware because I want the web site users to be able to search the site. The web site users are already able to modify the site themselves and this functionality must be kept. I use the debian zope package version 2.1.6-5.2. My first thought was to create a new ZClass that inherit from both the CatalogAware and the DTML Document class but it seems to be quite difficult. First the How-To: DTML Zclass ID Bug Workaround helped a little, but when I try to map some DTML methods to some views in the "Views" tab of my class, no tab for the view are displayed for the class instance. I also searched the news and the documentation and it seems that many people faced some problems when inheriting from both CatalogAware and DTML Document. So now I suppose this is not the best way to solve my problem. Do some people have succeeded in something like this ? Hello, I ran across a previous post regarding a simple ZPatterns based example you were working on. Did you ever get it working? How about any other basic working example. I understand the concept I'm not sure on the implementation. What would help me the most is a simple step by step guide like this. Create product folder. Place a ZClass derived from dataskin. Go to the default rack and select the ZClass as storage. I understand I have choices where to put the methods depending on what I'm trying to achieve. I just want to "make" ZPatterns store a single property in the dataskin zclass. I've tried putting methods everywhere. I thought you placed them in the specialist and then called specialist.propertysheets.Mysheet.manage_whatever(). Now I'm thinking the specialist goes into the dataskin. I think I should be able to get a simple working example using a specialist,ZClass, and a factory to add the product to the add list. Will the SkinScript How-to help me put together something that works?

I can't seem to make ZPatterns do anything. Can somebody help me out. I don't need code help just a basic how-to structure a working example using real objects, like dtml methods, sql methods or whatever. I really want to use and support the Zope and ZPatterns system. Until then I'm going to keep trying.
