acl_users.manage_users() and RESPONSE.redirect()

I am using the following (adding to acl_users folder with manage_users) to do user self registration after some initial authentication using Zope authentication and a common login/passwd. It works fine if things are as they should be, but when things go south, password and confirm not equal, login already exists, etc., it isn't so great. I would like to get ahold of the output of manage_users to display on a redirected RESPONSE back to the original vendorRegistration DTML Document. How can I do this? Also, is there a better way to check for a successful user add? Right now I am using, " <dtml-if expr="acl_users.getUser(login)"> ", and that works, but wondered if there was a better way. XML-RPC - UTF-8 vs. Latin-1 encoding

I just stubbed my virtual toe on a problem with XML-RPC that I thought I'd fixed about a year ago. It has to do with the use of UTF-8 as the default encoding for XML-RPC. I twiddled my Python search path a little yesterday and unwittingly began picking up the Zope 2.2.1 version of xmlrpclib.py instead of the version I got from Fredrik Lundh and modified locally. When non-7bit-ASCII characters started popping up in my XML-RPC responses I began to get errors because those characters weren't properly encoded as UTF-8. The fix I applied for my own code was to observe that everything I did used Latin-1 and so I simply forced a Latin-1 encoding in all my requests and responses with <?xml version='1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1' ?> When I twiddled sys.path yesterday I began picking up the Zope version of xmlrpclib and began having this Latin-1 vs. UTF-8 problem again. I retwiddled the path to get my version of xmlrpclib.py and things are once again fine. I have a couple questions: How are encodings handled in Zope (at least vis a vis XML-RPC)? I presume that in a Python 1.5.2-based environment such as Zope currently lives in, this is a potential problem. If so, where is the Latin-1 to UTF-8 conversion happening in Zope? What's odd is that it seems like self._lexicon is supposed to be a Lexicon object, but the getLexicon method thinks it's a string... Anyone got an idea on this one? Because this is the first release, remember to make a backup before installing. http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/tcpwatch/index_html TCPWatch is a simple Python script that lets you monitor a TCP connection. It does *not* depend on Zope, but it can be especially useful when writing Zope apps for WAP devices because the WAP devices will not display Zope exceptions while TCPWatch will. It's also useful for debugging any TCP/IP-based protocol implementation. Keep up the awesome work! Shane

ZPatterns: DropZone example

Hi folks, I've been looking at the DropZone example Phillip Eby provided on the ZPatterns Wiki. http://www.zope.org/Members/pje/Wikis/ZPatterns/DropZoneExample I've decided to start implementing it, so as to give myself an educational experience in using ZPatterns. I have an open question: The suggested specialists in the Accounting framework are: Invoices Orders Customers Products What I'm finding is that these are just the White-box specialists. A clean design would seem to want all the specialists above, plus at least one Black-box specialist to do the "heavy lifting. Let's call it the "AccountingProcessor" specialist. Now, if I had a third-party accounts package (something by Sage perhaps), I could make the AccountingProcessor specialist expose various functions to the four other White-box specialists. It would implement these by making equivalent calls on the underlying accounting package. I could also swap the heavy-lifting portion of my framework by swapping the black-box AccountingProcessor specialist for one that talks to some software by Quicken, or perhaps some software that is written in Python as a conventional Zope product. The same goes for the Resource Scheduling framework. We have some White-box specialists, ripe for customisation: Resources Reservations ResourceUsers And then for the heavy-lifting we have the black-box ResourceScheduler specialist. Again, this might be a Zope Python Product, or it might be an interface to some application written on top of Microsoft Exchange. Are specialists intended to be placed inside other specialists, as "contents"? So in this case, would the white-box specialists live inside the black-box specialist -- so they become the customisable aspects of the overall framework?
