Hi guys i've got a small prob. I have the ImportExportFavorites util from microsoft. If that util post the bookmarks of an user then it sends with http_user_agent "FAVORITES" and file name "img.fav" Is there a way that zope get this file so I can save it in the ZODB. Do I really understanding caching?

We have been looking at caching in Zope as a way of tweaking performance. Heres an example of what I think happens: - Supposing I have a 1,000 object catalog. If one person changes an catalog aware object, that instance of the catalog will be pulled out of the ZODB and changed. It will then be written to the ZODB. That last copy will stay in the cache for as long as the "Cache Parameters" are set to allow. - If somebody changes another catalog aware object, that will repeat the above process. - However simply accessing the catalog (no changes) will pull the object from the cache. - What would be really nice is if the object only got written to the cache when it is no longer used, that way every time the catalog changed it didnt write to ZODB instead it changed the cached version. Of course that does bring up the recovering from disaster problem. So do I understand it correctly? -- Andy McKay, Developer. ActiveState.

Zope 2.2.2 bug

I hope zope-dev is the right list to post this - I'm runining zope 2.2.2 on linux with python 1.5.2 Here's the set-up. I create a python class to act as a base class for a ZClass. I create a folder in Products called bugtest. Create a python class called bugtest. create and __init__.py file to register the base class. Restart Zope, see I have a new product called bugtest. Enter the bugtest product and create a ZClass the has bugtest as a base class. Everything works fine. Edit the python file bugtest.py - type in 'import x' (import something that isn't int the PYTHONPATH). Restart Zope. The bugtest product isn't shown as broken. Open the folder and everything in the folder has the 'product' icon. Try and create a new ZClass anywhere, and it fails. This is a sneaky bug because nowhere does zope tell you where or what the problem is, and it has the side-effect that you can't create a new ZClass. Could someone confirm this?

Membership and Local Roles

I posted this to the PTK list on Friday, but didn't get any responses over the weekend, so I'm reposting here. I feel that a barrier to Loginmanager and Membership becoming more generally usable for site builders is it's current lack of support for local roles. Specifically, members do not show up in the local roles screen (manage_listLocalRoles) user list. Through the magic of grep and find, I think I've identified the relevant sections of code in Zope that need to be duplicated in Membership (or maybe in LoginManager). First I tracked down what seems to be the relevant section in /lib/python/AccessControl/Role.py, in the section labeled 'Local roles support': def get_valid_userids(self): item=self dict={} while 1: if hasattr(aq_base(item), 'acl_users') and \ hasattr(item.acl_users, 'user_names'): for name in item.acl_users.user_names(): dict[name]=1 if not hasattr(item, 'aq_parent'): break item=item.aq_parent keys=dict.keys() keys.sort() return keys Then I tracked down the user_names attribute to /lib/python/AccessControl/User.py, in the section labeled 'Private UserFolder object interface': def user_names(self): return self.getUserNames() Well, that wasn't very helpful. searching a bit more and I find: def getUserNames(self): """Return a list of usernames""" names=self.data.keys() names.sort() return names Experimenting a bit, I find that a normal user folder object responds to an /acl_users/user_names URL with an error, but does respond to an /acl_users/getUserNames URL with a list of user names. And now I'm stuck. I *think* that LoginManager needs a getUserNames method that cycles through the available User Sources and grabs a list of names from each, concatenating them into one big list to return. I'll settle for some code that has the User Source name hard-wired in, though. However, IANAC (I Am Not A Coder), and I don't know how to do this. If anyone can offer a cut-and-paste set of instructions to add this into LoginManager or Membership, it would be greatly appreciated. If I've missed something obvious or misunderstood the problem, please tell me that too. Thanks, Michael Bernstein.

ZODB optimization

I'm wondering, is the ZODB easily 'fragmented' or .. un-optimized ? If so, are there any tools/functions that will 'unfragment' / optimize it? Does the 'pack database' in the Administration menu do this? If so, it could be a Good Thing (tm) to have separate optimize and packing (history deletion etc.) functions (buttons). Is there any way to make an object not keep history on itself or on contained objects ? -Morten

ftp-acces to Zope: "rename" command

Hi, I have the following problem: One great thing in Zope is the ftp acces to objects. And in combination with the ftp-abilities of kfm and kwrite in kde1.2 it worked very nice for me to edit DTML-Documents in kwrite. But now in kde2 the the i/o System of kde (kio) has changed and when I edit an DTML-Document with kwrite in kde2 and want to save, kwrite (in fact kio) first creates a new file named file_name.part and then renames it to file_name. No the problem is that the ftp part of ZServer doesn't support to rename an object. When I type "rename file file_old" in the linux terminal-ftp client, he says: "500 'RNFR': command not understood." So I'm asking if anybody knows how to solve this problem, or if there is anybody who can tell me where in the source of Zope I have to look to implement the "rename" command in ZServer. On the IRC Zope-cannel they told me that this wouldn't be too difficult. But maybe it is already implemented an I only have to activate it... Bye, Klaus
