Hi I love the orphan feature in dtml-in - it works really well and demonstrates the maturity of Zope Zen! When batching results as a beginner in Zope - you tend to think that Zope has a bug when not returning your results consistently (size=3 so why is it giving me 4!), (some of my staff have just assumed it's bug, and refused to develop on it (hence me learning it myself)). Then you eventually learn about orphans.... and you think that's cool! But it wasn't obvious. If you made the default value of orphan 0 (when installed) - people would learn about dtml-in more easily - it took me a few nights for the penny to drop about orphans. I got stuck doing a 'next' and 'previous article' navigation widget and the last few pages would never work! Keep up the good work. Guy

What I meant was that instead of having a list somewhere of bad words, you could have an ZCatalog. Right at this moment I can't think of why, but there you go. Anyways, if this is the way you want to do it I'd suggest that you create you own Python class or ZClass with the meta_type of 'bad_word'. Make sure that you subclass CatalogAwareness, and that this is the first class in you subclass list. This object should have an attribute called word (or something) which contains the bad word. (Hint: it could also have a 'replace_with' attribute which is what you would substitute the bad word with). Now, create yourself a ZCatalog instance and create a search interface for it. This could be a Python Method (Script) or a DTML Method -- I think there is something called a Z Search Interface even. Index all your bad_word objects. (Or index all of your objects.) By now you should be able to search in you ZCatalog and find all objects with the meta_type bad_word. This isn't enough however. You need to be able to do some comparasins on the 'word' attribute (and to be efficient) we add a (hope I get this right...) FieldIndex to your indexes in the ZCatalog. Reindex all yor bad_word objects -- or, again, let it find all objects. ZCatalog madness. (Must log in as emergencyuser.)

Right. Storing lots of big objects in containers

Hi guys, A product I'm currently developing has a rather big (in many ways) problem. A product instance may store many, (thousands) of big objects, ranging from 1-50 MB in size. Now, whenever the product instance is accessed, with say for example 100 objects with a size of 2MB each, Zope slows down to a crawl, and spends a lot of time loading (I assume) the objects from the ZODB, even though only 10 objects are actually accessed. ..I can't really use any external storages, as the reason for bringing these objects into the ZODB was to structure them and make then indexable by ZCatalog. And there's probably no time for ZPatterns. Someone suggested using BTreeFolder, but the documentation and examples for it are rather scarce. Does anyone know of products that make a good example use of BTreeFolder? Would BTreeFolder work for this? Are there better alternatives? Thank you for your time, Morten

Your metadata still lives in the ZODB, but points to the files on the file system. ZPatterns feature patch: kickTriggers

I don't need to change the DataSkin; I just want the triggers to fire at the end of the transaction. My current hack for causing triggers to fire without needing to actually change an attribute has recently stopped working. object.propertysheets.Basic. manage_changeProperties(bogus_property_to_prime_triggers=1) This is due to recent optimisations in OFS/PropertySheets.py in Zope 2.3 from CVS -- now, an object only gets changed when you alter a property that actually exists. This is a good thing, as it reduces bloat in the ZODB. Zope book now in public CVS

Greetings! The Zope book is now available in raw (structured text) format in a sourceforge CVS repository. We are also using SF's bug tracking and other tools to allow you better report problems to us than just email. If you'd like to check the book out of CVS, follow the instructions on this page under 'Anonymous CVS Access': http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=21038 What does this do for you? Well, first off, if you see problems in the book and you'd like to fix them, you can submit a patch to us instead of an email "describing" your suggested fix in prose. This is much more accurate for us to see the problem you point out. Tracking patches also gives us a nice mechanism for making sure we give patch-submitters honorable mention in the book! Also, some people may want to distribute the book (in accordance with the OPL license, or course) in some format we don't support yet, like LaTeX or Word (yes, PDF is coming, we're working on it!). With "the source" you are free to go about converting the content into whatever format you'd like. Lastly, although we try to keep the site as in-sync as possible with the CVS, the latest and greatest bug changes to the book may be found in CVS, where the web-site may lag a few days behind. Get browser information from HTTP_USER_AGENT..

Hello! I would like to get the information about user's browser but when I add these following tags in my dtml header, the result from the third condition is always true.
