Xron and Zope 2.4.0 again

Zope 2.4.0 CopySupport changes seem wrong

Hi there, I've just tracked down a bug that suddenly appeared with Formulator used on Zope 2.4.0. The problem is with renaming fields (which are objects in an ObjectManager). Formulator builds on ObjectManager and overrides manage_afterAdd and manage_beforeDelete to track its own list of object ids, which are kept in a certain order. Formulator offers special management facilities for this. The Field's manage_afterAdd and manage_beforeDelete pass on the id of the changed field to the order management functions of the form. It turns out however that manage_renameObject in OFS/CopySupport.py was changed, from this: self._delObject(id) ob = aq_base(ob) ob._setId(new_id) # Note - because a rename always keeps the same context, we # can just leave the ownership info unchanged. self._setObject(new_id, ob, set_owner=0) to this: b = aq_base(ob) ob._setId(new_id) # Note - because a rename always keeps the same context, we # can just leave the ownership info unchanged. self._setObject(new_id, ob, set_owner=0) self._delObject(id) Before self._delObject is moved to below ob._setId(), manage_beforeDelete receives an object as its 'item' parameter that has the changed id already. This seems wrong to me. What was the reason manage_renameObject() was changed this way? Checking CVS: [cvs.zope.org has an unfindable stylesheet today, by the way, at least with Netscape 4.7 on Linux; I got to the viewcvs interface only by turning off stylesheets in Netscape.] Hm, apparently it was an attempt to fix this collector item: http://classic.zope.org:8080/Collector/2257/view How would I implement code that removes the original id of a deleted object from say, a list of ids, in the new situation? There's no way to know now what the old id was. :) The bug report appears a big strange; it mentions an 'manage_afterDelete' which apparently doesn't exist (does the ZClass introduce this functionality?) I don't really understand how the previous functionality was wrong in the first place from this or the CVS log entry. If you're going to manage external resources with manage_beforeDelete, manage_afterAdd ought better introduce them again afterwards if you do a rename. Reordering this to make manage_afterAdd occur *before* manage_beforeDelete seems wrong to me. Regards, Martijn

Opera seems to cause memory leak on Zope Server (Linux)

Hi everybody. I'm (trying) to work with Opera, because I love it's speed, the problem is, from time to time, a request from opera, (seems to raise on POST only) causes Zope to eat all ram it can get and all cpu available. I tried to check out and found following data: it only rises on POST requests then it rises on this requests EVERYTIME I have two files for you, tracing the conversation of an example post. Thanks, I don't know what was going on yesterday. I reinstalled a new 2.4.0 (no products etc) on Linux and had this problem. This morning I started over again, and it's working fine. ZServer should redirect for folder objects?

Hi, I've been doing some work with Zope and I've noticed strange behavior with regards to ZServer and relative links. When a client requests an object that is a folder and the request URL does not have a trailing slash, the HTTP server should return an HTTP 301 Redirect to the correct URL with the slash, right? As an example, if I'm connecting to an Apache server: [headers not relevant to this discussion have been removed] $ lynx -head -dump http://some.apache.server/admin HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Server: Apache/1.3.14 (Unix) Location: http://some.apache.server/admin/ Content-Type: text/html $ lynx -head -dump http://some.apache.server/admin/ HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Apache/1.3.14 (Unix) Content-Type: text/html This is why if you send a request for http://some.apache.server/admin, when your client is done loading the URL, it will actually show http://some.apache.server/admin/. However, ZServer doesn't seem to follow this behavior: $ lynx -head -dump http://some.zope.zserver/admin HTTP/1.0 200 OK Server: Zope/Zope 2.3.3 (binary release, python 1.5.2, solaris-2.6-sparc) ZServer/1.1b1 Content-Type: text/html Content-Location: http://some.zope.zserver/admin/ $ lynx -head -dump http://some.zope.zserver/admin/ HTTP/1.0 200 OK Server: Zope/Zope 2.3.3 (binary release, python 1.5.2, solaris-2.6-sparc) ZServer/1.1b1 Content-Type: text/html Note that ZServer is returning: a) an HTTP 200 response b) a "Content-Location" header I looked up RFC 1945 (the HTTP/1.0 specification), and could not find any mention of "Content-Location". Only "Location" is defined. However, I also looked up RFC 2616 (HTTP/1.1), and there is mention of "Content-Location" there. But ZServer tells the client that it's talking HTTP/1.0, and yet returns a header from HTTP/1.1, so I believe this is incorrect behavior? This is important for relative links -- try this in ZServer. Make a /test directory, and put an <A HREF> tag linking to another file in that directory. E.g. /test/index_html: <A HREF="relative.html">relative link</A> Now, try loading up http://some.zope.zserver/test. Since ZServer does not redirect you, the URL remains as http://some.zope.zserver/test, and your link is incorrectly rendered by your client as http://some.zope.zserver/relative.html. But if you load http://some.zope.zserver/test/, the link comes out as http://some.zope.zserver/test/relative.html, which is right. Comments? Thanks! --- John Lim

No, I tried it on a "fresh" Zope 2.4.0 install, and I still got the same error message. I also tried the method that Steve Alexender gave and I got the same error as Walter Miller got when he tried it. I also tried Chris Withers' method (from Products.PluginIndexes.FieldIndex.FieldIndex import FieldIndex), and I also got the same error as Walter Miller again. Is anybody able to use Xron with Zope 2.4.0 ? Thanks. LoginManager with 2.4.0

Here's the diffs I forwarded onto the tracker maintainer. However, Tracker isn't a "supported product", and I guess updating the CVS version to work with 2.4 is some way down the priority list. When the CVS is open to checkins, the community will be able to take up some of this slack :-) The diff attached is not ideal, but it works. As Chris Withers pointed out on the recent Xron thread on zope-dev, I probably shouldn't be adding things from the SearchIndex module to the catalog. Rather, I should be adding instances of classes from the Products/PlugInIndexes product. That's easy to change, though. -- Steve Alexander Software Engineer Cat-Box limited
