minor bug in TreeTag.py

Since the collector is down I post it here zope 2.3.3, 2.4 If branches and branches_expr is given, the tree tag should raise a parse error, in TreeTag.py: 134 raise ParseError, _tm( 135 'branches and and branches_expr given', 'tree') But _tm seems not to exist anymore, so zope raises a NameError, ErrorValue: _tm. Perhaps _tm is a remnant of older zope releases and doesn't exist anymore? I didn't find it defined anywhere. Quick greping reveals that _tm is also used in MIMETag.py. cheers, ol

However when asked to use bleeding edge versions of it, as expected a feel faint for all the loss of fluids. I look at a product such as phpnuke, and I say why do I have to use x Zope products to achieve 1 php product. I still don't see why you would need to split Starsky and Hutch. Right now it's more a Baretta and Fred thing. And until they do like a Peaches and Herb thing and are Reunited, I'll have to wait. Zope core manages content by itself. So how you gonna have by the same company, two products that basically do the same thing. Sounds like doublespeak, and a good way to get some salaries shuffeled around. Imho having them labeled 2 separate products will end up being a hindrance to the overall project anyway. I'll take it anyway I can get it. I don't have any complaints, I love what's going on. (Errors and omissions in)[??] the Poll product in ZopeDevelopersGuide

Hello! Has anybody had any success in building the Poll product by following the instructions in the Zope Developers Guide **only**? I have no luck unless I used previous knowledge. There seem to be a couple of inconsistensies in the ZDG step-by step. Here are the things i **think** are wrong (if I am correct that is :-): on page 29: last example of the interactive testing: it is abvious from this line that the author is using a different file than the book has used so far. The book mentions no "poll2.py" file and, at this point, there is no method called "castVoteFor", it should be called "castVote" on page 30; section "Globals.Persistent": the example here given is that to trigger the persistency machinery you have to use the following syntax: self._p_changed = 1 However, on page 34 the final example uses the following syntax self._votes = self._votes there is no mention of what this achieves and no mention of why not the _p_changed attribute is used anymore on pages 34-35, "Factories and Constructors", the guide goes about explaining how to add the constructors to the Poll product. There's a very brief explanation of what factories are but there is no explanation of what constructors are. There seem to be a couple of other errors in the examples as well: on page 35; the addForm method misses the "self" parameter. Shouldn't there be a docsring in this method to make it publishable? on page 35; the addFunction method also misses the "self" parameter. the whole chapter also fails to mention that the addForm and addMethods should not be defined in the PollProduct class it self, but are rather part of the PollProduct **module**, that is, they are defined on the top level of the PollImplementation module /.py file. There also is no mention of whether the addForm and addFunction modules are part of the PollImplementation or if they should be defined in the Poll module/interface file as well. Also: should there be no security delcarations for the constructors? Will put this in the sourceforge tracker as well. Not only do you want me to become a public beta tester, now you want me to learn another tool in order to pull what is essentialy a service pack? That statement should read "The CVS version of the CMF works with Zope 2.4.x" (hint: have you tried CVS?) I"ve heard stories of people getting it to work with 2.3.x, but some people have problems. If I remember there was talk on the list about the New Religion,CMF, and Zope 2.4. Heck it might have been ZPatterns I'm thinking about. I've asked a couple of times about the next CMF release, and no answer. Now your telling me to use CVS. Zope and the CMF are like Starsky and Hutch. Now you're telling me Hutch/CMF is in CVS/Prison and I have to checkout/parole him to be with starsky/2.4.x You have to be a suit to come up with some stuff like that. We're not selling Bibles here chris. Although I'd swear Zope can walk on water, we at least know it can swim in it. On the for real note thanks Chris for the advice. I'm on windows and use mstools for source control. I plan to learn CVS. Zope (and Python) crashing bug found

There have been a couple of reports from various people (myself included) about a bug that will cause Zope to mysteriously die and dump core. I myself had the same problem, particularly with MySQLdb on recent versions of Python. I decided I better hunt the bastard down sooner rather than later... Symptoms: Mysterious core dumps fairly early on after starting up MySQLdb, isolated to the first query. After some investigation, I determined that this did not occur with Python 1.5.2 or 2.0, but does occur with 2.0.1, 2.1, and 2.1.1. Now, when calling _mysql.connect(), one of the items that you MySQLdb will pass in is a type conversion dictionary as a keyword argument, i.e. apply(connect, args, kwargs). After injecting some print statements here and there, and some getrefcount(), I found that the refcount on the converter dictionary was going to zero, i.e. getrefcount() returns 1. However, this only happened with Python > 2.0. So I got out diff and found the critical difference between 2.0 (MySQLdb not broken) and 2.0.1 (MySQLdb broken): diff -u -r Python-2.0/Python/getargs.c Python-2.0.1/Python/getargs.c --- Python-2.0/Python/getargs.c Mon Oct 16 17:49:29 2000 +++ Python-2.0.1/Python/getargs.c Sat Mar 31 08:18:35 2001 @@ -1124,6 +1124,7 @@ return 0; } converted++; + Py_DECREF(item); } else { PyErr_Clear(); The general upshot of this is: In versions of Python (numerically) prior to 2.0.1, if you use the O format with PyArgs_ParseTupleAndKeywords() (and possibly also PyArgs_ParseTuple()) to return a PyObject *, you get a new reference. In 2.0.1 and later, you get a borrowed reference and must Py_INCREF() if you want to keep it. In Python 1.5.2, however, doing this causes a memory leak! Since I want to keep compatibility with Python 1.5.2 for now, my solution is this: if (!conv) conv = PyDict_New(); #if PY_VERSION_HEX > 0x02000100 else Py_INCREF(conv); #endif In this example, conv is initialized to NULL, and PyArgs_ParseTupleAndKeywords() may or may not set it to some object pointer if it was passed in. Since Zope is only going to be supporting 2.1 and newer releases, this is not necessary. However, it may be worth auditing the code to see if the O format is being used, and if so, do Py_INCREF()s need to be added. I suspect some might, since with Python 1.5.2, having them there is a memory leak. Where is has() defined?

I'm trying to read python/Products/PageTemplates/Expressions.py and python/OFS/Traversable.py but I am at a loss for the definition of has(). I've been grep-ping all over the place trying to find it, with no luck. Is it a Python 2.1 thing? I've tried it in a test script, but I did not succeed. I need a whack with the clue stick.
