Internationalixation Developers and Translators needed.

Hello everyone, first of all, let me say that I am sorry for the cross post, but I do not know where I could find the right people. As you may know, Zope 3 will be fully I18n capable. In fact, last week Fred and Barry implemented the proposed i18n namespaces in Page Templates and I was able to finish the Translation Service. While we do not have a way to translate objects (like dates) right now, we are already able to do messages, including interpolation. What I need are people who would like to internationalize all existing screens for Zope 3 and then translators who help us localize Zope 3. Since I would like a full demo of this for EuroPython, we basically look at a span of 1.5 weeks. However, I think with 2-3 people the internationalization process should not take more than a day and making translations not much longer... This is a great chance to get involved in Zope 3 development for people that feel have not the technical understanding of developing Python code and the work is very rewarding, since you can see the results almost immediatly. The change log: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.6.0a1/CHANGES.txt Contains no mention of Zope 2.5.1 beta 2. Bugfixes that were a part of beta2 are listed under the heading "after Zope 2.5.1" Some important changes, eg: "Fixed a bug in TM.py that would cause database adapters to hang on errors in the second phase of the two-phase commit." .. made it into 2.5.1 final but you wouldn't know it from looking at the above CHANGES.TXT :-) Adam

Changes to ZCatalog

I made several changes yesterday to ZCatalog that may be of interest to you if you have a product that subclasses or embeds ZCatalogs/Catalogs. For eternity, ZCatalog has, when instantiated, created a set of predefined indexes and metadata. Back in the day when we had only three index types, this made some sense. Also, some of the indexes were less than useful. For instance, bobobase_modification_time is really too low level to be used for what the Catalog suggests we use it for. Summary only exists in CatalogAware objects, etc. etc. Now that we have plug-in indexes, it makes even less sense to guess what people are going to use their catalogs for. The current code in the trunk no longer populates the ZCatalog with a predefined set of indexes or metadata. It is up to the user or application to do this now. Realizing that some products may rely on this behavior, I am sending this warning so that you have an opportunity to test it for yourself. Another anachronism in the Catalog was that it automatically created and maintained a reference to a Vocabulary/Lexicon object to be used by the TextIndexes. Now that we have 3 different kinds of TextIndex available, one of which (ZCTextIndex) does not even use the same type of lexicon objects, this makes no sense anymore. Besides the fact that TextIndex already can manage its vocabulary association by itself anyhow. So, I have removed the dependency of Catalog on Vocabulary. Catalogs no longer store a reference to or care about vocabularies. Also, vocabulary objects are not created or chosen when instantiating a new ZCatalog. Like with indexes, this is now up to the user or application code. -Casey

Today, I was planning to see if I could create a single zopeedit.py that works on both unix and W32.. Looking in CVS I saw that Casey has been busy, and that this is one of many things that have been done already. I also noticed that you were up kinda late last night Casey?!? :-) Anyway, would now be a good time for a 0.3 snapshot? Anything need done / documented / tested first? Thanks, Adam

2nd Zope Instance

I appreciate the good advice I got here on starting a 2nd instance of Zope using a separate INSTANCE_HOME folder and a different HTTP port. That works great! Now I'm wondering where I can get a bare-bones copy of the data.fs file for the 2nd instance without having to re-install Zope using the Windows installer. (I got the 2nd instance working with a copy of my production data.fs, but I'd like to do my debugging with a stripped down database.) Also, I noticed in my production var folder that there are a lot of files named data.fs.tr0, data.fs.tr1, etc. Can I delete these? Thanks again for the help. Zope 2.5.1 on Win Me

Hi all, I have been using Zope from 2.2.4 on Linux, Win 95 and Win 2K, never experiencing any problems. I am trying to convince a potential colleague to try and learn Zope. He installed 2.5.1 on Win Me. When he begins with start.bat the machine is totally blocked after few seconds. The only exit is to reboot the machine. I deinstalled 2.5.1 and installed 2.3.3 on the same machine which works perfectly. But I still would like to know if you have heard any similar problems with Millenium (I have searched NIP archives on Millenium and did not find anything). I have no idea how to trace the problem. bug in RESPONSE.appendHeader

First off, the on-line documentation description of this method is 'Append a value to a cookie'. Second, it breaks if you are in fact adding a second value to a header that already exists. Either: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('x-i-made-this','1013')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.appendHeader('x-i-made-this','1121')"> or: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.appendHeader('x-i-made-this','1013')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.appendHeader('x-i-made-this','1121')"> causes an error because of what looks like a typo. /lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPResponse.py(line 391) reads: h=self.header[name] but should be: h=self.headers[name] Chris
