Threading problem

I have the following code: import threading thethread = threading.Thread(target=self.addOffice1Page, args=(REQUEST,)) thethread.setDaemon(0) thethread.start() return threading.enumerate() This is it's output: [<_MainThread(MainThread, started)>, <_DummyThread(Dummy-3, started daemon)>, <_DummyThread(Dummy-2, started daemon)>, <_DummyThread(Dummy-1, started daemon)>, <_DummyThread(Dummy-4, started daemon)>, <Thread(Thread-7, started)>] when I call the method, it does tell me that the thread has been started. However, it seems that as soon the request returns, the thread that I have just started exits. If I call self.addOffice1Page(REQUEST) it works just fine, and as expected, no errors. But when I call the thread, nothing happens (i know this because i have a OOBTree that stores the info, and the thread should change part of that when it starts processing, like the first thing it does.). The problem that I am trying to solve with this is that my process to add an acount takes some time to process, so what I am trying to do is spin off the thread that actually does the processing so that the client can get a page back that says that their account is processing, a la expedia or travelocity. And when the client reloads the helper page, it will check the status and take the appropriate action. So, my question is, What is the (undoubtedly very simple) thing that I am missing that makes it so that this will work? Or, should I just queue them and run a cron job every five minutes to process whatever might be in the queue? Any help would be so very much appreciated. oh, zope 2.5.1, python 2.2.2, behind apache 1.3.27 running on linux 2.4.20

Zope 2.7: OrderSupport for ObjectManager

Hi! Implementing the OrderedObjectManager proposal, we fleshed it out and modified it a bit. I made an initial checkin on a branch which reflects our current thinking. So this is your chance to discuss the changes before we merge it into the trunk. The code: yuppie-ordersupport-branch (Creating the branch went wrong a bit. Please just checkout lib/python/AccessControl, lib/python/OFS and lib/python/Products/OFSP.) The original proposal: <http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/OrderedObjectManager> Some key issues: 1.) OrderSupport is a mixin class for ObjectManager. (using the CopySupport / FindSupport / UndoSupport pattern) 2.) 'Folder (Ordered)' is a 'Folder' with OrderSupport. (using the 'Script (Python)' pattern for the meta_type to avoid a name clash with the existing OrderedFolder product or names like OrderedFolderLite) 3.) For the ZMI, we use the same 'main.dtml' as the ObjectManager. This way we avoid redundant code and make it easier for products that need to change the 'main.dtml'. [ZPT] Form validation and Zope object target

Hi all, I am a newbie on this newsgroup and this is my first question : As I use embedded Zope objects to display a web pages, I have the following problem : the standard use of <form action="myMethod"> don't work with embedded form because the call occurs on the object father. How can I code an ZPT form to call directly my form subobject ? I know it's possible but I don't know how. Thanks in advance.

Yes. I think the manage_addBatch should do it. We will probably set this up for ourselves pretty soon, and update the docs with an example. The syntax should be something like this folder.manage_addProduct['ExternalFile'].manage_addBatch( target_dir='c:\my\dir',basedir='',recursive='yes') See if that works. Of course, you could bundle that in a PythonScript and then call it via wget from the command line, something like this: wget http://myhost.com/myscript?dir=c:\my\dir I have not checked either of the above for syntax (sorry!) and then have cron call wget on regular intervals. This is a (very) poor man's auto filesystem-ZODB synchronization mechanism. just browsing the collector, and noticed that the comments on http://collector.zope.org/Zope/812 reveal that it was never a bug, much less a critical one. Quickie?

Hey all, I'm working on developing a Product and have run into a small, but annoying nag. I'm using the mx.DateTime object to get a little more functionality for my timekeeping. Everything seems to work fine until I try to go to the security management tab for the objects in question (ZM). It seems that __bases__ is supposed to contain a tuple with the classes base classes? It also looks as though this is supposed to be a Python attribute, but I can't seem to verify that. Am I going to have to drop the mx.DateTime? Is there some simple and silly solution? Any help would be most appreciated. HTTP Compression granularity.

Yo, browsing through the code, and the changelist for 2.6 I found the HTTP compression feature. Apparently it's a thing you need to turn on in ZPublisher.HTTPResponse by changing an option in the code. (yuk :() This makes it an all or nothing feature. I'd like to have more granularity and want to be able to turn it on/off for all content in specific folders. Is this possible? TIA, Romain.

CVS Head Zope Win32 build, mkzopeinstance, no runzope.py generated

Thank you to the developers who've taken such strides to enable win32 builds from source, this is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I think I'm only one step away from getting it to run, the final mkzopeinstance step doesn't seem to write the runzope.py on my configuration. Particulars: Python 2.2, win32all installed in "C:\Program Files\Python\" Built with: c:\archives\cvs\zope>python inst\configure.py --prefix=\progra~1\zope nmake build, nmake install worked fine, but for one warning at the end: (...) creating C:\progra~1\zope\skel\var copying skel\var\README.txt->C:\progra~1\zope\lib\python\..\..\skel\var warning: ZopeInstall: modules installed to 'C:\progra~1\zope\lib\python\', which is not in Python's module search path (sys.path) -- you'll have to change the search path yourself Zope binaries installed successfully.
