TALES idea: tuple unpacking

During the Melbourne Zope3 Sprint, someone ran up against a situation where they'd have liked to have TALES perform a tuple unpacking like Python can. I've just run into a similar situation :) Say a method listFilesByUser returns a list of (user, [files]) it'd be nice to be able to:: tal:repeat="user,files here/listFilesByUser" or similar. Currently we would have to use a python: expression to manually unpack the tuple. Kinda yucky. Any comments? Richard

A First Look at Zope3

I checked out Zope3 from CVS yesterday and had a go at it for the first time. Granted that it is a work in progress, I did have a few comments from a user's (rather than a developer's) perspective. The API exposed to DTML and ZPT seems very sparse (compared to Zope2) at this stage. Is this the case or am I missing something? As far as I can tell there is as yet no way to even get the name of an object for doing things like the old <dtml-var title_or_id>. (I have figured out how to add to the API for any particular class in the source code.) About the new look to adding objects in a folder -- I see the point of going to a list of contents with a text input to assign a name (so you can see what names are already in use), but I see one problems. The text input appears at the top of the list and the button to commit the change is at the bottom of the list. This will become more inconvenient as a container's list of contents grows. Perhaps the buttons should always be near the text input. Chris Gray

It _does_ need to work with a list or dict. It doesn't right now. If I'm _really_ _really_ lucky, I can have a ZEO client stay up for nearly half an hour before it hits this problem and falls over. The code was committed 2 months ago, as rev 1.43.6.3 "Backport atomic invalidations code." This, to me, seems a showstopper for 2.6.2. Anthony

TALES wish : the "thistemplate" variable

What's behind this ? Actually, we get the "template" variable available in the TALES namespace. "template", when used in a macro, refers to the template that uses the macro, and not to the template that contains the macro. The future (if you wish it with me) "thistemplate" variable will refer to the template that contains it, whatever that template is being refered or executed. Example of use : nested macros in a widgets collection template <metal:widget metal:define-macro="basicwidget"> ... </metal:widget> ... <metal:widget metal:define-macro="extendedwidget"> ... <metal:inner metal:use-macro="thistemplate/macros/basicwidget"> </metal:widget> ... </metal:widget> Actually, if you need nested macros in the same template, you need to refer that nested macro with... <...metal:use-macro="here/thistemplateid/macros/basicwiget"> 1/ using directly "thistemplate" is more legible and maintainable. 2/ you can rename more safely the templates. 3/ you can put and use attributes in templates that contains only macros. 4/ accessing "thistemplate" would not involve the acquisition machinery to find inner resource. Thus provide the invoked resource (other macro) much faster. Any comment ? Cheers --Gilles

Functional testing of export/import?

I'm trying to write a functional test that verifies that an instance of my Product works correctly after it's been exported and re-imported. I'm stuck on how to give the test object a valid _p_oid which is needed to do the export. Background: This Product is a dynamic content object for CMF. Its behavior depends on another CMF type instances, which it keeps a path to. So I need to ensure that things work even when one or both objects have moved. I've got moving & renaming handled well and now I want to test import/export. So my test suite sets up a dummy CMF instance. I do this by swiping stuff from the CMFCore and CMFDefault tests; I subclass SecurityRequestTest and then do manage_addCMFSite(self.root, 'cmf_test_site' ) self.site = self.root.cmf_test_site I've also got a portal folder in the site which I keep a handy reference to as self.fol1. All tests are passing, now I move on to writing the export / import tests. Let's say the object I want to export is self.cmf_test_site.fol1.cp1. I have a shorthand reference to this stored as self.cp1. So I think the first thing I need to do is get the export data like this: data self.fol1.manage_exportObject('cp1', download=1) ... and once that works, I'll use the same data to do an import. But the export fails. Using pdb and browsing some source I've learned that cp1 needs a _p_jar and _p_oid in order to be exported. The _p_jar I've already dealt with in my move / rename tests, by swiping a hack from CMFCore/tests/test_portalFolder.py: id = self.cp1.getId() # WAAAA! must get _p_jar set old, self.cp1._p_jar = self.cp1._p_jar, self.root._p_jar try: data = self.fol1.manage_exportObject(id, download=1) finally: self.cp1._p_jar = old That seems to work fine. But now I'm stuck on _p_oid. How do I give the object a valid one? I'm sure I can't just use the same trick and swipe the _p_oid of the app root :-P I must say that using pyunit to write functional tests for zope 2 / CMF is a royal pain. It requires too much knowledge of implementation. (why should i need to worry about _p_foo???) Also I've found that if there's an error in your class' setUp(), it can cause the test to hang and never show you a traceback. -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com

Object Type Assocation And Death To index_html

Hello All, There is a proposal in the Zope 2.6 plan called "Object Type Assocation and Death To index_html" the status listed is "incomplete". Is this still on the table for future versions of Zope? ZCatalog Indexes tab crawls...

Hi, Has anyone noticed that the ZCatalog Indexes tab crawls if you have loads of objects indexed. My guess is that some types of index take way too long to figure out how many objects are indexed. Anyone know which index types those could be? BTW, would anyone object if I removed that object count, since it's not often very useful... cheers, Chris

HP-UX 11.11: Python, Zope and ZMySQLDA binaries wanted for PA-RISC-Server

Hi Zopistas! I'm developing for a big customer in the airline business a Zope-based web application. This application needs (customer's wish) to be implemented on a HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC server (modell: RP5470 with up to four PA-8600/PA-8700 processors). Unfortunately we were not able to compile neither Python 2.1 nor Zope 2.6.1 with HP's C-Compiler (ZMySQLDA we didn't try afterwards). Is there anybody out there which could send me the binaries for HP-UX 11.11 of: - Python 2.1 - Zope 2.6.1 - MySQLDA (best would be 2.0.8) Thank you very much in advance!
