makerequest issues

Several things: 1) there is a "makerequest" function in both Testing/makerequest.py and Testing/ZopeTestCase/utils.py. They are subtly different. Is there a deliberate reason for this? I notice that the one in utils.py lacks the recent fix for zope 3 views, and the one in makerequest.py lacks an ACTUAL_URL. 2) re. the bug which I just posted at http://www.zope.org/Collectors/Zope/2057 the issue is that if you have something that inherits Traversable, and wrap it with makerequest(), its getPhysicalPath() method is broken, because getPhysicalPath() tries to call getPhysicalPath() on all non-None aq_parents, and an HTTPRequest isn't Traversable. There are two possible fixes to that bug: I could hack around it in makerequest() by adding a fake getPhysicalPath(). I've uploaded a patch to the collector that does this. - or - I could change the conditional in Traversable.getPhysicalPath to look like so: def getPhysicalPath(self): ... p = aq_parent(aq_inner(self)) if p is not None and getattr(p, 'getPhysicalPath', None) is not None: path = p.getPhysicalPath() + path ... I was reluctant to do the latter because of two worries: a) I figured it's called all over the place and even slightly adding to its workload might negatively impact performance; the attached timeit script shows about a 15% slowdown in the method, however, I've not been able to measure any difference when hitting a default plone front page with ab. b) I don't know if there is code that relies on the current behavior of getPhysicalPath(), i.e. raise an AttributeError if p is something other than None but still lacks getPhysicalPath. TCP CLOSE_WAIT leaks

Hi, I've been noticing a situation for some time that my 2.8.5 Z2 is running out of threads. When doing an lsof on it, I see a large number of TCP handles in CLOSE_WAIT state. It seems something's not properly clearing down the connection to release the thread. Unfortunately, these connections were almost guaranteed to have been set up via Apache redirect processing, and it's quite successfully cleaned up its end ... Does anyone have any idea how this situation might occur, and why Zope's not properly housekeeping these (maybe Medusa needs a timeout set on close waits??) Alan

Is TF IDF implemented in zope search engine. On NED in Zope.

Hi all, I was reading a paper on News Event Detection (NED) and I started wondering how hard would it be to implement such a mechanism in Zope. My first step was to find out if Zope already implemented a vector space model (tf idf, maybe) for indexing and searching the documents. I know nothing of Zope internals yet. Dependent List

Hello, I have a problem with my archetype, I'm using dependent lists. I've downloaded the MasterSelectWidget product, but I have a problem with it. In my archetype I have a master field and a slave one, I install the archetype, I add an object of this type to my portal, but when I load the saved object and try to edit it, I see that the slave field (a selection widget) don't have the value that I have selected. How can I solve it? Is there any alternative to MasterSelect widget? Thanks !

[Zope2.8.7] with Five 1.0 or Five 1.2

Hi, Zope 2.8 ships/shipped with Five 1.0 which is very old and no longer actively maintained. Most ppl doing currently development with Zope 2.8 are using Five 1.2. Should we upgrade the Five version in Zope 2.8 to Five 1.2 to make their lives a bit easier? There is possibly a compatiblity problem involved and it is against the general rule for major upgrades of a package or product for a minor Zope release..I have no opinion on this issue...I just had this thought.... Andreas P.S. Zope 2.8.7 will be delayed so far for some days (until next weekend or so)

Patch that makes the 'MS-Author-Via' header configurable in zope.conf

Hi all, two weeks ago, I submitted a patch against Zope-2.9.1 that makes the 'MS-Author-Via' header configurable in zope.conf ( http://www.zope.org/Collectors/Zope/1441 ) but I did not hear a single comment about it, so I'm guessing nobody noticed it. As the original collector entry referred to Zope 2.7.2, should I submit it in its own collector entry for it to be taken into account? The patch : http://www.zope.org/Collectors/Zope/1441/diff-Zope-2.9.1-Zope-2.9.1-patch-w… It is documented as following : Set this directive to 'on' to enable WebDAV compatibility for Microsoft software. Microsoft implementation of WebDAV uses the non-standard 'MS-Author-Via' header to determine if it should use WebDAV. This is disabled by default since it makes a lot of standards-compliant things unhappy AND it tricks Microsoft Office into trying to edit Office files stored in Zope via WebDAV even when the user isn't allowed to edit them and is only trying to download them.
