Hi everyone, I just updated the Zope 3.4 KGS with some new features. 1. You only need to upload the "controlled-packages.cfg" file now; all other files are generated. 2. The "controlled-packages.cfg" file now supports a name and version option. Thus, all generated files are versioned now. The unversioned version of the files refers to the latest one. 3. A new "links.html" file now lists all packages in one URL, so that it is suitable for the "find-links" option. (I have not tested this yet, anyone?) 4. A new "minimal/" folder now contains an index just of the controlled packages. This minimal index can be used by compoze as one contributing index. (I have not tested this yet, can anyone try this and report how it can be done?) 5. There is now an introduction page called "intro.html" that lists all versions and files. It also explains how to use the files. See: http://download.zope.org/zope3.4/intro.html 6. The KGS now supports extensions, meaning one KGS can build on another. You simply specify the "extend" option in the "[KGS]" section of the controlled packages configuration file. This should allow frameworks built on top of Zoep 3, like grok, to build their own KGS without much effort. That said, I would really like for people to test all the features and see whether they work for them. But most importantly, I would like for people to contribute to the "Usage" section of the introduction page! Thanks to all for listening! Zope 3.4.0b2 update

Hi all, I just wanted to report that the Zope 3.4.0b2 tag of the Zope 3 source tree seems to work very well in an older application of mine. I only had to fix a few deprecation warning and there was a deprecation warning within that I am going to fix before the next release. I had no test failures whatsoever. Zope without Zope

Hi all, For fun, I just tried to make use of adapters and utilities, registered with ZCML, in a Pylons application. I installed Pylons in a virtualenv, and easy_installed zope.component and zope.interface using the KGS index for 3.4. I used zope.configuration (also installed) to load a site.zcml, which currently just has: <configure xmlns="http://namespaces.zope.org/zope"> <include package="zope.component" file="meta.zcml" /> </configure> That doesn't work - it complains about not finding zope.security.zcml. Then I tried to easy_install zope.security, but this pulled in most of Zope, including the ZODB, ZConfig and zdaemon. That's a real shame - no CA (at least not with ZCML) without having pretty much all of Zope there. :( Actually, I never got to try it further, because this then died with: Installed /Users/optilude/Development/Pylons/zylons/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ZConfig-2.5-py2.4.egg error: Installed distribution zope.traversing 3.4.0 conflicts with requirement zope.traversing>=3.5.0a1.dev-r78730 Are the Zope eggs ready for prime time? Maybe I should be doing it differently? I'm curious about how to go about this, since it seems like an incredibly useful thing to be able to do: Make use of the CA in a non-Zope Python application. :) Help appreciated! Hello, the new zope.po file has been reviewed by french users and is now ready to be committed. It would be great to have it included in the RC of zope 3.4 so that any remaining error could be found. Doc strings of IContentProvider

While trying to implement the outcome of that zope3-dev discussion on pagelets being content providers, I noticed that the doc strings for IContentProvider talk about how content providers are to be looked up: They specify (informally) that content providers are discriminated by context, request, and view. Also, the documentation of the __parent__ attribute states that the parent is a view. To my understanding, the interface should only specify how an object behaves, not how it is obtained. Moreover, I suspect that it might be enough to require the presence of a parent for the sake of the security context (as stated in the doc string) without specifying that it must be a view. The way it is now, a view whose parent is something other than a view can never be its own content provider. As an example, this includes pagelets. Unless this is a conscious design choice, IMHO the interface's documentation should be worded more liberally. -- Thomas
