make zope.component.registry.Components inherit from dict?

We've been handling some constructive criticisms from repoze.bfg developers with respect to verbosity resulting from use of unnamed utility registrations in a component architecture registry. These criticisms, and our ameliorations are detailed here: <http://docs.repoze.org/bfg/1.1/designdefense.html#bfg-uses-the-zope-compone…> In repoze.bfg, we've actually decided to use a subclass of the component registry which also inherits from "dict". This makes it possible to spell common unnamed "utility" registrations and lookups as: utility = SomeUtilityImplementation() registry['someutility'] = utility someutility = registry['someutility'] Instead of the more familiar: class ISomeUtility(Interface): pass utility = SomeUtilityImplementation() registry.registerUtility(utility, ISomeUtility) Doing this was extremely simple. Here's the "meat" of the subclass: from zope.component.registry import Components class Registry(Components, dict): pass I think it would be reasonable to make this change in zope.component itself. z3c.schema2xml and z3c.schema2json

Hi, I'm about to work a bit on z3c.schema2json [1]. As has been briefly discussed before (a while ago [2]), z3c. schema2json is so similar to z3c.schema2xml [3] in what it does and how it does it, that I wonder about merging the two packages somehow. One way to do this - maybe - is to use named registrations for the (de)serialization adapters. The name could reflect the serialization "mode" - for example "xml" or "json". But maybe there're other ideas to achieve this? Zope3 server with SIGSEGV - what to do?

Hi, In my Zope3 (I use Zope 3.4.0) logs I just found some curious entries: ------------------------------ snip ----------------------- 2009-10-23T12:20:41 INFO root pid 21278: terminated by SIGSEGV ------ 2009-10-23T12:20:41 INFO root spawned process pid=1502 ------ 2009-10-23T12:21:12 INFO WSGIHTTPServer zope.server.http (WSGI-HTTP) started. Hostname: zis Port: 8088 ------ 2009-10-23T12:21:12 INFO root Startup time: 24.212 sec real, 16.580 sec CPU ------------------------------ snip ----------------------- This occurs once in a while, so it seems something segfaults and the server seems to notice that and restarts. Making zope.dublincore independent of zope.annotation

I'd like to see the hard dependency of zope.dublincore on zope.annotation gone. This would lift the indirect dependency on the ZODB. zope.dublincore uses zope.annotation in three places: - For defining the IZopeDublinCoreAnnotatable marker interface which isn't used in any of the packages mentioned in ztk.cfg, which basically amounts to all of Zope. I suggest simply deleting this interface. - For implementing and registering the ZDCAnnotatableAdapter which only makes sense if zope.annotation is installed in the first place. I suggest making the registration of this adapter conditional on whether zope.annotation is installed, which removed the hard dependency. - For tests, which would require zope.annotation to remain a testing dependency of zope.dublincore. If there are no objections, I'd like to make these changes and release zope.dublincore in the course of this week or the next. -- Thomas
