zope.testing / zope.testrunner path forward:

I'd like to put down some effort this week during the EuroPython sprint to go forward with zope.testing for Python 3. zope.testing 3.9.5 is already deprecating zope.testing.testrunner, but I need to remove it so that I can port zope.testing to Python 3 without going mad. (zope.testrunner runs on Python 3 already, although installing it fails, because it tries to install zope.testing 3.9.5.) The questions are (some have been discussed before, but I don't remember the outcome): 1. Should there be BBB imports of zope.testrunner into zope.testing? We can do that to get a longer deprecation period, a couple of months isn't very long). 2. Should I release the testrunner-free version before I port to Python 3, or should we do both at once?Doing both at once of course risks more problems than one at a time. On the other hand we might want all changes at once to lessen annoyance. 3. unit test policy questions

Hi! Traditionally the last two lines of unit test files look like this: if __name__ == '__main__': unittest.main(defaultTest='test_suite') That makes it easy to run the tests of a specific file. But it doesn't work with tests that require the zope testrunner. AFAICS something like this is needed instead: if __name__ == '__main__': from zope.testing.testrunner import run run(['-m', 'test_foo', '--test-path', '.']) Questions: ---------- 1.) Is it still policy to add these lines? 2.) Is there a better solution for using zope testrunner than the one shown above? Cheers, Yuppie

Hi again, late, but here it is: We have an IRC meeting coming up in about 30 minutes. I'd like to see whether someone was at EuroPython and can report whether anything interesting for us, the Zope developers, happened. I'd also like to try again doing some languishing bug review together. Just to make sure: I want us to take 10-15 minutes to review new bugs and either reject them or accept them as valid bugs signalling the reporters that we have seen them (and will deal with them eventually). Does anyone have the text index from zope.index working for simplified or traditional Chinese? The default pipeline is ships with effectively makes sure I never get a search result. I tried to drop the splitter from http://www.zope.org/Members/panjunyong/CJKSplitter in. This worked a bit better in that I got search results, but there seems to be little relation between my query and the result. ZTK automatic discovery with buildbots

I've worked on a special buildbot that would be able to create a new ZTK list automatically, by testing arbitrary new versions. For this purpose I've created z3c.checkversions, and the last version 0.4 has two new options (--blacklist and --incremental). http://pypi.python.org/pypi/z3c.checkversions/0.4 I'm using this package in the special following buildbot: http://buildbot.afpy.org:8018/waterfall Previously, the buildbot was testing the set of *all the latest* releases, but I was never able to get success. So I've changed its behaviour and now it's testing new packages one by one, and reduces the version number until tests pass : 1) The first builder on the left uses z3c.checkversions to create a new list with *only one* new version, and reject any version found in a blacklist. 2) The 3 builders in the middle do the actual tests against this list. If some build fails, the package is added in the blacklist. 3) if tests pass, the version list is kept for the following builds. The buildbot has started living by itself, and has given the following behaviour : - it started with ZTK 1.0a2 - it upgraded (arbitrary) zope.dublincore 3.6.0 -> 3.6.3 - tests failed - it added zope.dublincore 3.6.3 in the blacklist - it upgraded zope.dublincore 3.6.0 -> 3.6.2 - tests failed - it added zope.dublincore 3.6.2 in the blacklist - it upgraded zope.dublincore 3.6.0 -> 3.6.1 - tests failed - it added zope.dublincore 3.6.1 in the blacklist - so it keeps zope.dublincore 3.6.0 (until 3.6.4 is released) - it upgraded lxml 2.2.6 -> 2.2.7 - tests passed - lxml 2.2.7 is kept for future builds (mmh, ok it wasn't, but it should be :( ) The next run will try another package, and we should be able to get the best working ZTK automatically. I still need to do this for all platforms... This is not optimal, because zope.dublincore 3.6.3 maybe works well when upgraded with another package, but I'm not sure how to detect this.
