Hello! I have a serious problem with Zope. We are using transparent Folders, dunno if it is related to that (I am blaiming most everything on transparent folders these days ;-). rotating_file_logger error

Hi, After seeing http://www.zope.org/Members/tim/logmanagement I attempted to setup log file rotation but Zope wouldn't start due to an error in ZServer/medusa/logger.py (Zope 2.4.1). The error is obvious at lines 106,108,110, time.mktime() is called with 9 arguements rather than a tuple of 9 elements. Simple changing this appears to fix the rotating logger. Surely others have come across this? Or am I the only one who rotates Zope logs like this? Zope community in Finland

Are you working with Zope/Python in Finland? I represent the ARKI research group in the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and we plan to invest in Zope/Python as our main web/software development environment and also want to further open source activities. We know a few zope people, one major development project in another group here is based on Zope, but we would like to get more people involved in zope/python development, and to possibly sponsor some kind of developer community activities in Finland. If you work with Zope/Python in Finland and are interested in forming also some kind of physical community, of developing joint open source activities, of matchmaking jobs with people, or know of an existing more or less organized community, or have any other related ideas, please send me a reply. Also, if there is some established way how the local Zope communities in various places keep in touch with each other, I'd be happy to know more... Please reply to me only, not burdening the list. Problems with permissionsOfRole in Zope 2.3.x

Hello, I have a Folder-like object, which inherits ObjectManager and PropertyManager, in addition to the acquisition and persistence classes, and inside I have an instance of class which is a direct descendant of SimpleItem. In the SimpleItem-like object, I have a method, let's call it 'test', which is protected by permission 'TestItem' (via a declarative security statement). In addition, the entire object is covered by permission 'Access TestItem', and the parent folder-like object is covered by permission 'Access Test'. Both of the access permissions are visible to the anonymous user. A sample implementation of those classes can be found at: http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte085h/zope Suppose now I create an instance of the Test folder, and inside I put a user folder and a TestItem instance. I also create a role, 'TestRole' which is comprised of the 'TestItem' permission. Then I create a user which has only 'TestRole'. Next, I log in as this user, and I attempt to access the method 'test' in my TestItem instance. This attempt succeeds, so I'm presuming the Zope authentication machinery has successfully determined the roles and permissions of this user, and the permissions on the method I'm trying to access. Now let's try to access method 'permissions'. Defined in the folder-like class Test, this method uses permissionsOfRole to display all permissions given to a certain user. What it should show upon invocation is the permission 'TestItem' since this is the only permission our user has been given, but instead is doesn't show anything, because permissionsOfRole returns an empty set of permissions. On the other hand, if one is to create a DTML form that invokes permissionsOfRole (or uses the one in manage_access), the correct permissions are displayed. Can anyone venture to guess where's the problem here? Thanks, Ivan Raikov

core session tracking and zope 2.5 integration

Chris - I'm not sure of your plans for integrating core session tracking with zope 2.5. This may be obvious to you but I just realized today how I would really like to use core session tracking. I haven't yet investigated the feasability of an implementation. However, it would be nice to have 3 out-of-the-box choices for acl_users folders: - the current acl_users folder - a new acl_users folder with core session tracking support (ram-based storage) - a new acl_users folder with core session tracking support (possibly mounted zeo client storage) The core session tracking based acl_users folders would hide all of the details of installing and setting up the current core session tracking product. By combining this with something like the cookie crumbler, password-less users authenticated only by session key (user name equal to the session key) could be automatically created and expired when the session expires. The session data could also simply hang off of the authenticated user object and default roles (or no roles at all) could be assigned at the user's creation time. The session based acl_users folder would behave the same as the current acl_users folder for users whose expiration time is NONE or less than zero. In essence, it would be really helpful to make the core session tracking product as easy to use (and install) as the REQUEST object. Unable to retrieve member data

Hi all, I am using Zope2.3.3 & CMF1.1 with ZEO1.0b3. The CMF site was working fine all through. But suddenly, there is a problem in authenticating users. That is, whenever a method such as portal_membership.getAuthenticatedMember().getMemberId()" or "portal_membership.getAuthenticatedMember().getUserName()" is invoked from a DTML method, I get the following error message. Error Type: MemberDataError Error Value: Can't find user data. Also, "portal_membership.isAnonymousUser()" returns 0. I also checked that portal_membership.getAuthenticatedMember()" returns the member. But I am surprised that I am unable to get the attributes of the member object like name or id. Has anyone faced this sort of problem? Or does anyone know under what circumstances such functions as getMemberId(), getUserName() returns an error? Thanks for any help & suggestions. PropertyManager bug: long int truncation

Under python 2.1.1, zope 2.4.1, long in properties get truncated by exactly one character each time they are saved. This most likely results from the Good Old Days when long int representations had a trailing 'L', which no longer exists. Richard ps. how's the collector going? Wanna maybe use Roundup? :)

Adding a role programatically

Hi All: I would like to add a role programatically, I was wondering if any one has tried adding a role, I was looking for a python script that would do this. I am adding a role into an Oracle table through a form, so I would like to also add the same role into ZOPE, thus having only one point of entry to both. Thanks much. Kiran.

ZCatalog searching for missing values

Hi all, We've installed Kavio's CatalogQuery product and are very happy with it. Haven't looked at the ZOQLMethod from iuveno yet, but both look like great steps in the right direction. I have one question: is it possible using a normal catalog query or Kavio's catalog query to check if a value is not set? The representation returned is Missing.Value, but I seem to be unable to say, e.g, 'Description == Missing.Value' etc. How hard is it to add such functionality? Bye, -- Bjorn

Ahhh... Got it working now. Thanks. :) Not sure I know how to activate ZCatalog searching though, or if it is on all the time; the example only mentions ZCatalog once when it deletes it. What determines if a search is a raw object-database search and when it uses the ZCatalog? Always returning the objects is going to a bit slow, though. Couldn't it just return the Pluggable Brains if you search the ZCatalog; or at least have an option to only return them?
